One thing I admire in fashion on a constant basis, is those girls who can absolutely rock the effortless chic look, grunge or glam, indie or feminine, just that whole ‘i threw this on,but still look awesome and edgy’. More and more i’ve been lusting after the whole fitted midi, converse and leather jacket look or silk shorts, ankle boots and a big knit, the outfits always look so well pieced together but so utterly simple and ‘easy going’. For a long time i’ve admired from afar but I’m starting to let myself dabble in the ‘plain’ items that can sometimes make this whole effortless yet edgy look work.
Now admittedly, I’ve not styled this item for the whole effortless edgy look in this post, but I can assure you when I have my full wardrobe to be hand i’ll be adding my converse and leather jacket immediately.
I tend to always resist buying ‘plain’ and ‘boring’ items, as I’ve always deemed them a waste of money especially when i have so many cool and special items in my wardrobe / on my wish list. But i’ve started facing facts, just because an item is cheap / plain / lacking ‘detail’ … it doesn’t mean it isn’t worth the pennies & actually a ‘look’ in itself. Weirdly i’m more likely to spent £80 on a cool jacket or dress, than £10 on a plain T. That is until I smacked my botty into shape … the time has come to start stocking up on the easy wear, basics.
. Topshop Grey Tunic £12 . Marni HM Heels .
This grey dip hem t-shirt is a bargain Topshop basic item, at £12, it’s the sort of top i’d usually look at, think is cool and put back because its so basic. But something kept me clinging to it last weekend, and I decided to go wild and just buy it anyway. I’m so pleased I did, the simple, slouchy style of it, is actually a statement item in itself, and I think it would look amazing styled with a bit of a rocky edge.
I’ve got a couple of items like these now, the ‘adventure’ into basics started a little while ago back in April when I invested in a grey marl midi dress, again from Topshop. So watch this space, I may start becoming a little less ‘styled’ and a little more ‘effortless’ as the months fly by.
What do you think of this casual top & my aspirations for the effortless chic look? Don’t forget today is your last chance to enter my £100 clothes giveaway (here) – the winner will be announced in tomorrows blog post.
