I fully believe in, the much debated theory, regarding colours affecting, and being intrinsically linked with, your mood. We all know that wearing black and grey oozes sadness, wearing yellow brings a bit of sunshine and happiness, red gives you courage (‘When in doubt Wear Red’ as quoted by Bill Blass). We even use colours to describe our emotions sometimes, for example green with envy, feeling blue and seeing red. It’s of no doubt that colours can have an impact on how you feel.
It’s also of absolutely no doubt that this ultimate fail of British summer time is having an effect on our mood, emotions, and generally how we’re all feeling. I mentioned in another post this week that I myself have been feeling a little down in the dumps, no doubt hindered and enhanced by this miserable weather.
So when I saw this amazing coloured dress on the Glamorous website, I was instantly drawn to it, not only because its pretty, but also because the colour made me smile & felt like a colour I wanted to wear :) I would say it was the colour mauve, a moderate shade of purple.
According to all my research, the colour purple means many things ranging from Temperance (self control and also an abstinence from alcohol which is pretty pertinent in my life right now), Royalty (power & status) and wealth / privilege. It’s also a colour that was heavily worn by Roman Emperors and heads of Churches, and as a result has been linked with royalty and status over time. Apparently purple is a good colour to wear or be around if you’re seeking uplifmtent, self power, calm, stress relief, enhanced spirituality and creativity.

So I appreciate half of this is irrelevant (or potentially a load of nonsense), but after a seriously busy couple of weeks, a busy and stressful time at work and just a general feeling of being run down and in need of some quiet relaxing me time – i do wonder if this is why I was particularly drawn to this little mauve dress, and why perhaps I love it so much now. As soon as I put this dress on, I felt good, relaxed, at ease. So even if it’s placebo affect, i’m happy to roll with these feelings for a while :)
I didn’t want to over style this dress and take away from the beautiful mesh detailing and wonderful vibrancy of the colour, so a simple platform and tan belt were my items of choice. I may even wear this again at the weekend for Jase’s birthday celebrations, I think it would make a lovely summer evening dinner out dress.
What do you think of my new dress, do you like the colour too? Have you ever thought about styling yourself with colours to enhance / affect your mood?
