Yesterday was the day my extreme frivolity and lack of control was confirmed. It was also the day I became the proud owner of (another) gorgeous Mulberry bag.
I’ve always, and I really do mean always, been obsessed with bags and dressing up, and moving into adult life this has become an even more prominent personality trait. I have an eye for designer bags and fall for them frequently. Over the years i’ve built up a little collection of luxury bags, from saving and treating myself to presents from my dad or boyfriend. This obsession with luxury items combined with my extreme sense of frivolity, and my mantra ‘you only live once’, means I can often be swayed to making an extreme act of indulgence which is actually far beyond the reality of my means. Yesterday was one such day.

. Primark Gold Angular Necklace . Mulberry Bayswater .
Before I indulge you with the detail, I’ll provide the context. Yesterday Jase and I traveled to Shepton Mallet where the official Mulberry outlet is housed. It’s also right next to a designer outlet featuring the likes of Aubin & Wills and Nicole Fahri. Whilst we only went to browse, I did have a funny little feeling within me, like a bubbling stew of excitement – WHAT IF, I was to find a bag I wanted. aghh.
The above is the outfit I adorned myself with – a chic cream peplum styled down with burgundy skinnies and my converse (which I don’t wear often enough). My leather jacket and Mulberry bayswater were, as usual, my accessories of choice (this is my typical day look).
I didn’t actually find anything I liked in my size in the designer stores, but it was the Mulberry store I was most excited about. So the thing about the Mulberry store is this, you don’t go to get a bargain, you go to buy a bag with a light discount. This is what I always forget, I mean an £850 bag will be c.£700. You’re not looking at gobsmacking deals here, so you still have to be armed to invest a hefty lump in one of these bad boys. It’s also worth noting the outlet stocks 2 type of bag, last season stock & ‘seasonal’ bags (e.g. non standard colours and materials etc).
As I walked in I fell in love with a bag in the sale, it was reduced down to £1,500, so I swiftly ran away. Only to find myself in my usual place of comfort, the classics (if you don’t know already I really am not much of a fan of the Mulberry IT bags, their lower quality and mass marketed appeal makes them less exclusive and less ‘Mulberry’ for me). Anyway, the classics are where i’m at, and that’s when I spied the bag I’d eyed up in November 2011 (part of the spring 12 collection). The Mulberry Holly.
. Mulberry Holly Bag £750 – £507 .
The most ironic thing about this latest purchase and my blogging it today is that when I launched my blog on October 30th 2011 – this was what my first ever blog post was about. The fact I really wanted this bag. Fate or what.
So the bag retailed at £750 this winter / spring and is now technically ‘last season’ stock (as summer 12 is now in store). The bag was in the outlet for £507 (roughly 30% discount). It’s worth noting how beyond my means this really is, I work really hard and have a full time career / job, so whilst I have the funds to indulge, I probably (definitely) shouldn’t have been so naughty. Anyway, sometimes when I really love something, and Jase loves it too, I get this overpowering sense of ‘why the hell not, do it’, and that’s what happened yesterday. Whilst that £500 should have gone into saving towards a house or holiday this summer, I really wanted this bag, I fell in love, and so you know what I closed my eyes and handed my card over, and I couldn’t be more pleased.
When buying something relatively ridiculous in price, you almost have to pretend you’re not paying X price for it, else you could super easily talk yourself out of it. It’s the battle of the head, angel versus devil moment and sometimes you do just have to let the devil win, it’s usually worth it for the pure pleasure you encounter after. I now have years of enjoyment ahead of me, and not to mention this hot piece of meat to accompany me daily :)
So, what do you all think of my bonkers splurge, do you like my new bag?
