MEDIAMARMALADE 2.0
Well you may have noticed things are a little bit different over on mediamarmalade today … a few design tweaks, and a flash new home page and logo to kick start 2016. Despite fully relaunching my site last January, i’ve spent the time since continually making a few tweaks and trying to improve things on here, not only just design wise, but content wise too.
I’m so happy with how my blog has grown, evolved and how my content and design have improved, but I still felt as though my branding wasn’t quite right and wasn’t reflecting the style of my blog and my content anymore. So at the beginning of this year, after much pestering, Jase re-designed my logo and hand illustrated and edited this beautiful mediamarmalade typeface, it was exactly what I wanted, a playful and whistful style, yet chic and professional at the same time. It was when I finally had the logo completed I decided to make a couple of additional finishing touches … namely my home page which when you arrive on my site, is all about the photography. The thing i’m so passionate about.
I feel so happy to see my designs come to life on my blog, and the tweaks I make continually reflect where I am in my life and how much my little old blog has grown. And it means so much to have you all on this crazy journey with me. So thank you for sticking along and I really do hope you like the new look and feel.
5 WAYS TO REFRESH YOUR BLOG
As I mentioned, I love to continually tweak and adapt my blog as I grow and my blog grows too. And i’m sure you’re the same, so to celebrate the little ‘relaunch’ of my own little blog, I thought i’d share my 5 tips to help you keep your own blog fresh, updating and evolving your style and content as you and your blog grow & how to make your blog feel new and exciting.
#1 BE CREATIVE
When it comes to your blog, be creative, don’t feel restricted by designs and styles you’ve already seen before, pre made ready to buy formats, or a popular formula to showcase your content. The great thing about blogs is the individuality they all bring, and so having a unique design that reflects you and your style is key. Be creative, and think out of the box.
#2 SMALL TWEAKS. BIG IMPACT
Don’t think you need to do an entire blog redesign to make things feel new and fresh, sometimes simple changes can make a big impact. Small changes also means you can continually update and evolve your blog as you grow and your content and style evolves.
#3 IMAGERY
Given a blog is as much about imagery as it is about the editorial, a simple change in photography style can also make a huge difference. I’ve started to feature a few black and white images into my editorials and I love the slightly more whimsical vibe it brings. Think about colours, composition, portrait versus landscape and even the content your shooting. Simple changes to any of these can create a whole new look or feel.
#4 COLOURS . FONTS . LAYOUTS
Another easy way to give your blog a little refresh or small design change is to try out new colours tones, font typefaces or even your post layout and structure (how you position images versus text etc). They are such small and subtle elements of your blog, but it can make such a big impact and difference to your blog and how it looks and feels.
#5 CONTENT
And of course the easiest way to refresh your blog and give it that new exciting feeling, is simply to adapt your content. Or if you want to make a bigger change, how you showcase your content (your layout etc). Try introducing a new content theme, embrace different topics, adapt your writing style, or simply change the format of how you show your posts (read more / big images / text and image / grid scheme), you can create a whole new look & feel just by making such small changes.
What do you think of my new logo and layout? I really hope you like it all, I’d love to know your thoughts. Did you find the blog design refresh tips helpful too, let me know if you try any of them out?

Hi Mel, I love the simplicity of your site, and how it highlights the amazing photography! I just love how even a few tweaks can make you love your blog all over again, but my problems are I love when I re-do mine, but find I get agitated to quickly, and want to change it all again! haha. Probably need to learn to become less impatient! Suzi x
