SNOW DAY

January 19, 2013

When I got up at 7am in London yesterday, the snow was just starting to fall. When I rushed home after work to get on the road to bristol there was a good 3 inches of snow covering everything (my beetle was a big snow ball). Beautiful. The kids were out in the field having snow fights and everyone was generally just strolling around in the snow. I know it causes disruption and can be dangerous on the roads (i had to drive 130 miles to Bristol) but I just love it when it snows. It gets children outside, playing like they should do, it gets teens and young adults out building snow men and parents together admiring the family having fun. It means we can dress up in our cosiest and cutest winter warmers and just makes the outside world that little bit more untouched and stunning. It means cosy fires and a hot mug of tea from inside and snuggles on the sofa. I for one will most definitely be embracing the snow this weekend.

Whilst my pictures are significantly un-snowy, this was my outfit yesterday and what I wore for my snow day. It’s a shame you can’t see the snow falling, but if you follow me on instagram (mediamarmalade) you will have seen my snowy home and car when I took pictures on my return from work.
This jack wills jumper is probably about 56 years old, but it’s just so classic and cosy I love to bring it out when the weather gets a bit nippy. I always admire people who wear big knits and chic shirts and make it look really feminine. A lot of my jumpers are loose and unstructured so this is the jumper I go to when I’m looking to channel that look. I always go for jodhpurs opposed to jeans or tights, they’re really warm but most importantly comfy.
. Jack Wills Knit Jumper . NFD Cream Chiffon Blouse . Fur Headband .
. Daniel Footwear Knee High Boots . Topshop Jodhpurs (old) .
As my Hunters were back home in Winchester, I decided that these knee high Daniel Footwear leather boots would be my perfect snow companion. And boy they were. They went perfectly with the outfit and protected my toes from the nippy conditions in London.
After I made it to Bristol after a very snowy and eery motorway drive Jase and I headed to wagamama’s for some treats, and then settled in front of the fire with a big box of chocolate treats and watched a film – Silver Lining Playbooks. I’ve been meaning to read this for a really long time, and now after watching the film I want to even more. It’s really good and we loved it :) Today is a snowy day in Bristol so we’ll be wrapping up and exploring Clifton village this afternoon and have a cute dinner out planned tonight.
What do you think of my snow day outfit? What have you been wearing in these snowy conditions? Do you plan on adventuring out this weekend?

Those boots are the best snow boots I have seen yet, I know they are not technically snow boots but look at the practicality of them and how lovely they are, perfect for this weather and for not compromising on style (I have some very practical yet slightly ugly snow boots) that I have been sporting lately (they have yet to be featured on my blog, but today may be the day lol)

I agree with you on loving the snow and for the same reasons as you. I just love seeing everyone outside together enjoying it. I am more of a watch it from the inside person or going for a long walk in it wrapped up kind of person rather than sledging and snow ball fights (I don’t do well with being wet and cold) but I have been known to partake in a bit of snowman building, such fun!

I saw your photos on Instagram of your car, so cute, you got a lot of snow down there!
