I stand by the fact that the media industry is 100% work hard play hard. It really couldn’t be more true. Whilst I can work crazy hours and be super stressed one day or week, you know that another day sometime soon will be full of media fun. The industry is pretty infamous for it’s party’s (many a night has made the national press headlines), the lunching is beyond ridiculous (top London eateries, afternoon tea in top hotels, breakfasts with class) and jolly’s that are so ‘up there’ it rivals a celebrities lifestyle (Vegas, 5* Ski trips, spa’s, festivals, Ibiza, St Tropez … the list could go on).
This part of the industry I work in is what makes the job all the more worthwhile Now don’t get me wrong, we work bloody hard, I mean really hard, but that’s why the parties and events are always so good … because we party hard too. I’m a frequent 5am-er after a heavy night drinking in Soho House or attending the media party of the moment and last night was no different.
It was a night of two halves for me. The evening started at the Charlotte St hotel with a makeover and a personal stylist on hand to talk us through shopping for our shape and the latest trends – not to mention lot’s of wine & delicious canapes. This was followed by the 2012 Shortlist / Stylist part at the Free Mason’s in Covent Garden.
They host the party at the Masons hall most years, and the set up for the night is always impeccable Grand entrance, cocktail and champagne bar, main room for dancing and music and then the best bit of all … the Shortlist and Stylist ‘areas’. Broken into two different wings of the building and fully kitted out for girly / male fun. I spent most my night in the Stylist room (I should have taken photos – doh) which was kitted out in the most decadent feminine way – fur rugs, posh Victorian chairs and seating areas, a grand piano and not to mention …. the photo booth (where I seemingly spent my whole evening).
It was a really fun night and I’m super happy I have a lovely lunch lined up today at Inamo – one of my favourite Japanese restaurants. Thank god for Media Friday’s.

Love the photos, super fun and fabulous. Despite the long hours and the hard work, I bet it pays off to also ‘play hard’ – fun parties to attend and glamorous events! Fab post lovely!
