Upgrade Your Look

December 4, 2012

WOW LIFE IS BUSY. Aghh, I’ve been working crazy hours, up in the pitch black of the morning and working super super hard. Christmas is a funny time of year in media, it’s a complete mix of huge work deliveries and massive projects (it’s annual planning time for our clients) as well as big parties and media owner celebrations. It means that December, and even November these days, is totally non stop.
Putting aside the extreme fatigue, terrible skin, stressful feelings … it’s also the time of year where you need a good old transitional outfit. I’m talking work suitable but party ready.
You need something that you can transform with the slap of some lipstick, the flick of some eyeliner and the addition of some killer heels. It’s a tricky thing to do as you don’t want to risk looking OTT at work, nor looking like a drab on a night out. But I like to think it’s something I’ve sort of got a grip on after 4 years in the industry.
This outfit is one of these examples – whilst this looks super dressy, and the skirt is QUITE (;s) short, it’s totalyl wearable for work (day to day, not client meetings I should add). Simply switching the heels for a pair of smart brogues or little shoe boots, adding a long blazer and pulling down the skirt a tad makes it perfectly okay for a day in the office. But it’s also a look that’s so easy to notch up a tad when it’s time to go out.
. Pull & Bear Leather Skirt £22 . Mina Wendy Blouse £52 (c/o) . AX Paris Chelsea Platforms .
Today is one of those days where a transitional outfit is required. It’s a day of busy busy work meetings (up at 6am and in meetings 9am – 3pm) followed by my work Christmas party tonight – it’s stressful to say the least, but I love knowing the outfit is covered and I don’t have to worry about a change of clothes, or what to wear etc. Hassle free work to party wear is key.
I decided that my leather Pull & Bear skirt would be a great statement piece that’s easy to style up or down dependent on shoes etc. So quite flexible which is handy. My new Wendy blouse from Mina makes the perfect addition as the nude silk material is very chic and subtle but the peter pan collar gives it a nice little touch. I swapped my chunky chelsea boots for some plain pumps for the day time, and will be nipping on these bad boys tonight to spice it up a little.
What do you think of this look? Are you a fan of the transitional work to night outfit? What do you tend to do to upgrade your look?

      Love this outfit!
Although you must be freezing with all the outdoor shots at the moment!

I would love it if you could do a post on working/moving to London (as from your posts i presume you didn’t always live there) Would just be great as a near graduate to read on how you decided where to live etc.

I love the collar of the blouse! Lovely detail but subtle enough for daytime.

I love your heels, they would also look great with thick black leggings and a chiffon shirt for a transitional day/night outfit!

How comfortable are those shoes to walk in? I have been lusting over a pair like that, but platforms are not my best friend, haha!
      Great outfit!
