. FROZEN HERBS .
Being a born again housewife I’ve started stocking up my recipe repertoire, browsing handy cooking tips, and stocking my kitchen full of fresh herbs and spices ready for a whole host of cooking activity. One of my favourite new discoveries is frozen herbs …
As you’ll most likely know, buying fresh herbs is great for flavour and texture but the only problem is they’re expensive (unless you grow your own) and also they go off quickly causing a lot of wastage. After buying a shed load of coriander the other week for a Turkey Taco night (see recipe here), I had a lot of left over herbs and so to ‘waste not want not’ I froze them up into little cooking size portions which has proved a really handy and efficient way of herbing up my dishes.
Sorry I don’t have a picture of the frozen finale … I accidentally wiped my camera before I took the pics off. DOH.
The best thing of all is that It’s very simple to make … simply chop up your herbs (any will do), fill a teaspoon size portion into your ice cube tray holder, simply top up with water and freeze. VOILA.
I’m going to be building up a whole array of ice cube herbs in my kitchen after seeing how handy and helpful this little concoction is. It makes cooking so easy, and takes away the hassle of chopping and grinding herbs for every meal. Plus it saves on so much wastage :)
Have you tried frozen herbs? What other handy kitchen tricks do use when cooking?

I don’t bother with the water and just freeze herbs chopped (if they need to be) and take out when I need them :)

I’ve been doing this for the past few months and it has saved so much waste. I must start labelling them because I keep having to do a sniff test to figure out which ones are which. X
