. GIVE YOUR BLOG A FRESH FEEL WITHOUT STARTING FROM SCRATCH .
Every now and then I get an urge to make a change to my blog, sometimes a radical change, sometimes just something to give it a fresh feel or a fresh look. Up until a couple of years ago I felt like I was constantly making tweaks, adjusting the look & design of my blog, and experimenting with content, at the beginning of last year I took the big move of totally revamping my blog, including a scary move from blogger to a self hosted platform … a serious refresh.
But despite the change, I still find myself wanting to keep my blog fresh, make changes, tweak things here or there & simply just keep innovating it … i’m sure i’m not alone?
But these changes don’t need to be as radical as a whole redesign, there are a few simple tricks that i’ve learnt over the years which help give your blog a fresh look, without months of coding hell or big expenses, today I wanted to share a few of those little ideas.
. 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO GIVE YOUR BLOG A REFRESH .
#1 MAKE SMALL TWEAKS
First of all, with the user friendly interfaces that blogger and wordpress offer these days, making simple changes to your blogs look and feel can take a couple of seconds and doesn’t require the blood sweat and tears of yesteryear (I remember trying to custom code my blogger blog and nearing tears with the stress of it). So if you’re in the mood for a little change, then why not think about simply tweaking your fonts, changing the colours of your hover or hyper links, or updating your social links or even making your posts ‘read more’.
A slightly heftier change, but still relatively simple would be to change your home page layout, move your widgets or layout around. These changes can make your blog feel totally new, without any major leg work.
#2 PHOTOGRAPHY
Given how much of your blog is photography, regardless of your layout, even making some simple changes to your photography style can make your blog look and feel different immediately. For me photography is a huge part of my blog, from my home page to my category pages, the focus is the imagery … and so by making some simple tweaks to my imagery style (whether it be focusing on crisp white imagery, or bold, dark and contrast lighting) it can make your blog look totally different.
It’s a really easy way to make your blog look new & exciting without really doing anything at all.
#3 START A NEW SERIES
I always find starting a new blog series a really exciting way to make my blog feel all new and shiny, when I started my career, photography & blog tips posts, I really felt like it gave my blog a whole new vibe. I was writing about things I was passionate about, and in turn it attracted new readers who may not have been as interested in my usual style features.
Whether its food, fitness, lifestyle, photography or personal style … adding a new content theme to your blog can really make your blog feel like a new site, but again, is just a super simple change to make.
#4 ADD A NEW PAGE
Much like starting a new content or topic theme on your blog, even adding some new pages can make your blog feel new. I personally like to have my category pages where people can view my tips, beauty & lifestyle features etc, but adding a new page every now and then makes my blog feel like it’s continuing to evolve & keep up to date. My most recent additions were bespoke shopping pages for accessories & home wear, and of course the addition of my subscription and collaboration pages.
Its really easy to add new pages, and it gives your readers something new & exciting to go and explore.
#5 REDESIGN YOUR LOGO
In reality your logo is just an image or a font on your blog, but actually your logo can be quite the centre piece to your website. Changing your logo can therefore make your blog feel totally new and different, without any other changes really needing to be made.
It’s not something you want to do to often, as your logo is part n’ parcel with your brand, and a brand should be consistent as much as possible. But making a change to your logo is another really easy way of upgrading your blog without having to put much work in.
I’ve been thinking about redesigning my logo again for a few months now, something a little more arty, but still chic and professional which is where I wanted my blog to go. It’s not a difficult thing to do … but spend some time finessing the design before you make any changes, you’ll be amazed at the difference it can make to your website.
So there you have it, 5 very simple ways to make your blog feel new and exciting, without having to do a whole redesign or start from scratch.
I’d love to know if you’ll be using any of these tricks or if you have any other tips to add to the list too?

Such an inspiring post! My blog is still very new but have been blogging on different domains for year but really want to take my blog far and this has been helpful as to how I can do that. If you don’t mind me asking, did you buy your template or create yourself as I really like it and am seeking out a new layout at the moment.
