FORGET FLORAL PRINT DRESSES.
Embrace your inner tom boy this season.
Spring has sprung & my wardrobe has quite quickly transitioned from salopettes & thermals to slogan tee’s and shorts. It’s funny how quickly spring arrives and how easily I slip into my summer wardrobe.
For me spring is one of my favourite styling seasons, with lots of potential for playing around with layers, transitional styling & for updating your wardrobe with a few new pieces.
More often than not my spring style is formed of midi skirts & tees, loose fitting smock dresses and tailored leather & suede jackets, but every now and then I find myself opting for something a little more masculine, a little more boyish and laid back, and so today I thought i’d share one of those looks. My inner tom boy, and a few tricks to help you subtly channel your inner tom boy too this spring.
6 TIPS FOR EMBRACING YOUR INNER TOM BOY
1. TEES & SHORTS
Men live in tshirts and shorts during the summer months, and us girls can too. Opt for band tees, slogan tops or overized classic shirts. If you’re looking to rock your inner tom boy then loose fitting is key, in fact, don’t be afraid to shop the mens section for the perfect masculine fit. And when it comes to shorts, why not swap your jeans or denim mini for a slightly more tom boy looking shorts. These whistles ones are a subtle nod to boyish style.
2. UNISEX ACCESSORIES
Accessories are an easy win, from a classic unisex rayban to a pair of converse, channelling your inner tomboy is most easily achieved through simple, comfortable understated accessorising. Another trick is to keep your colours gender neutral, black, white, grey, navy all help create a more simple & unisex look.
3. OVERSIZED
One of my favourite things about mens clothing on women or a masculine tailoring is that it’s oversized, that classic boyfriend shirt and slightly too big fit not only looks uber chic, but also means mass comfort. If you want a more subtle tom boy styling, rock an oversized shirt with skinny jeans & converse.
4. BOYFRIEND CUT
But it’s not just oversized, when it comes to jeans opt for a boyfriend cut, low slung hips, baggy bums and worn / ripped denim. The style is naturally masculine, but in my opinion can look incredible on women when styled properly. A simple white tee & trainers, with a classic leather jacket is always a win.
5. SHOP MENS
One very simple trick of the trade when working a more tom boy or masculine styling is to simply shop in the mens sections – not only will you find more unique pieces (because lets face it, not many women are shopping in the mens department) but you’ll also find some naturally oversized pieces without having to size up massively. I constantly borrow jase’s denim jacket, the tailoring, size & boxy fit is something you could never find by shopping in the ladies section.
6. OFF DUTY
And finally, don’t over do the makeup & hair styling. Tom boy style is innately off duty, top knots & natural makeup is all that’s needed. Keeping things simple will deliver the best results.
SHOP THE TOMBOY EDIT
This weekend I embraced my inner tom boy in my new season Whistles breton tee, whistles culottes (a few years old now, but these Gestuz ones are super similar), classic converse and my clubmaster ray bans. A simple, laid back, tom boy look. Uber comfy and perfect for spring.
Do you ever play around with masculine style & the tom boy look? How do you embrace the style?

I personally love the tomboy style! I can’t stand being too feminine-looking… but I have a weakness for florals too. Because of this, I find that I’m always undecided between my styles haha.
