ROSES ARE RED, VIOLETS ARE BLUE, VALENTINES SHOULD BE FOR LIFE TOO
Happy Valentines day my beloved ones. I hope you’re day has been spent enjoying the sunshine with your favourite people. Mine certainly has been, a busy morning spent shooting for mediamarmalade, followed by a well earned coffee with my sister who I treated to these beautiful flowers as a thank you for shooting my photos for me, once we’d recovered from the cold we headed home, picked up my boy & ruby (our pup) and headed for a very late, but very delicious brunch. Tonight will be spent having a family Valentines dinner. Perfect right?
For me Valentines isn’t something I wait all year for, because for me valentines and the gestures we share on valentines day are something we should practice all year round. And so thats what I wanted to talk about today …
5 VALENTINES GESTURES WE SHOULD DO ALL YEAR ROUND
#1 SAY I LOVE YOU
Why wait a whole year to tell the people you love how much they mean to you? Why not take a leaf from the Valentines book and share the love all year round. It means a lot to hear how much someone loves or adores you, and so why not tell them more often.
#2 BE GENEROUS
Valentines, like Mothers Day, Fathers Day and birthdays is the one day where we spoil our loved ones. But actually the small gestures like a cup of tea in bed, holding of the door open for you, or even a surprise bunch of flowers are the things that really mean the most. So don’t save all your generosity for one day, be generous always, it’ll always make someones day.
#3 COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
I’m a true believer in being grateful for everything you have in your life, even if it’s the small things. On Valentines we take check of how lucky we are to have loved ones, friends and family in our life. But being grateful is something we should practice everyday, I recommend starting your day thinking about the 5 things you’re grateful for that day.
#4 DATE NIGHT
Date night. Going out and enjoying each others company is something you do non stop when you first get together or when you first start dating, but as the years pass on (we’re on 8 years now) you can forget to spend a little time together outside of the ordinary day to day. Making the effort to have a weekly or monthly date night is something we should all try to do, it doesn’t have to mean an expensive night out, but just a little effort can make a whole load of difference.
#5 MAKE AN EFFORT
Which leads me to my final point, making an effort. It’s easy to fall into the day to day grind and forget to make an effort, whether that’s with ourselves or with our partners. Making an effort doesn’t have to mean big gestures, or getting dolled up daily, but simply making an effort for each other, an effort to make each other happy, an effort to show how much you care. One of those most pertinent things I read last year was the faux Brad Pitt letter to Angelina Jolie, despite the fact it was fake what the letter said really rang true.
Will you be trying to share the Valentines love all year round?

I absolutely love this and you are so completely right with each of these :) I’m definitely going to start buying myself flowers regularly as they make me so happy.

Couldn’t agree more. Me and my boyfriend live in different cities so I make sure I end every precious phone call with ‘i love you’ and am always picking up cute postcards I see to send to him.

After how happy I felt after the boyfriend gave me rainbow roses I think I should step up my game and be, of course, kind and patient with him all year long, but also do something that makes me happy more often. And having a rose on my makeup desk is definitely something I will do more often, as an aesthetic reminder.

I 100% agree with all these points. Valentine’s should be celebrated every single day, not just on the 14th of February! x
