When you do a product review, I feel you should know the product inside out, have used it enough times to know the pro’s & con’s and the long term effects. I don’t often do product reviews or beauty posts on my blog, unless I really find a new product I absolutely adore. Most the time I stick to my ‘usual’ makeup and skin care products & don’t often venture into new territories.

However – just before I went away on my first holiday about 6 weeks ago, my skin was depressingly terrible. I bought a few new spot products to try and help me out (Origins spot remover) & tried so many foundations and concealers to try and cover my severe blemishes. Whilst I found the products good, they weren’t that miracle you always hope to find. But then I got offered the chance to try Perricone MD No Concealer Concealer. In my feeling of hopelessness I went for it, anything was worth a try.

Tied in with escaping my busy London life for a much needed break in the sun, I started using this product. Needless to say it doesn’t cure spots (it’s not meant to), but the sun sure as hell helped with that one, but what I was left with, as usual was terrible red scaring and marks from where my spots had been. Grr.  I’ve always used Boiing from Benefit, tried Mac concealers and recently bought the collections one after hearing so many good things about them. However, after an hour or two of wear, I always ended up with flakey looking skin surrounding a big red mark – basically for a couple of hours they were hidden but after that they were back, and looking more terrible than before really due to the cakey coverage. Now I should caveat, this may be due to my poor makeup skills, but either way, it was less than ideal.

Thankfully through much water drinking and sun exposure, my skin also got a little more hydrated & obviously less spotty. But I still have red markings depressingly.

Now the concealer comes in a pump glass bottle – much like foundations. The colour is non debatable – it comes in one shade and that’s it (you don’t need varying shades with this). The consistency is like a fairly thick moisturiser, sort of sticky, and you only need the smallest most tiny amount to go so so so far. Now when I mean small, I mean small, sort of like the size of a stud earing. Once on your finger tip, you just rub two fingers together to ‘get the concealer going’ (i’m not sure how to describe this – but it’s sort of like warming it up and spreading it out ready for application.

After this you just dab it onto your blemish areas, spots, or even around your eyes as a primer / brightener  (I’ve been using it for my eyes too & really love the healthy glow it gives them) and it sort of melts into your skin, completely clearing any sign of miss colouring and sort of then blending into the colour of your actual skin. I’m making it sound like magic – which clearly it’s not – but it is really quite impactful.

As the concealer is very much a thick moisturiser consistency, it doesn’t sit on your skin like many other concealers it absorbs in, and I think this is probably my favourite thing about this product. It doesn’t sit on your skin and flake off after 3 hours, it sinks in and stays … and stays, and stays.

I actually really don’t like the whole base layer make up look, i’m not particularly a fan of foundations I’ve recently discovered, and I hate the look and feel of thick cakey makeup on my face. As I mentioned the other day, I’ve swapped my foundations for tinted moisturisers & now I’m officially swapping my concealer pots for this moisturising No Concealer Concealer. I’m also really keen to try their No Foundation Foundation, as if it’s anywhere near as good as this concealer, it may be the hydrating foundation product I need.

The name of the product is ironic (seeing as it is a concealer), but actually really true. It doesn’t feel like a concealer, but does an incredible job (and I mean REALLY good) of actually concealing blemishes, brightening your skin & giving you a healthy even look. My skin is noticeably healthier since having some sun, stopping using foundation and starting using this – even friends / family / clients have commented on it.

I’ve been using this daily, not only to cover my red blemishes around my chin, but as mentioned to brighten my eyes before applying any eyeliner / eye shadow too. I will 100% be buying this again, and I’m so much happier now that my skin is clear, hydrated and generally just much much healthier. This product isn’t cheap (as you fully should expect with such quality ingredients, the dept of research gone into it & the good results it delivers), but I really do believe that good quality products, that maybe cost a little more, but have had that fine testing, doctoral research & have been specifically developed to do what it says on the tin, are well worth the money. This product is one of those, and it’s worth every single penny in my mind.
