When I go on holiday, I do absolutely everything possible to ensure I do NOTHING. I am named the ‘human rotisserie’ by my dad, as I quite literally like to find myself a spot in the sun and stay there from 9am – 6pm on a daily basis. Moving only to rotate onto my tummy / back, pick up a cocktail, or for a quick dip in the sea. There is absolutely no strenuous activity at all … and god forbid any ‘thinking’. No No No.
Having said this, to be able to lay in the boiling sunshine all day long without getting flustered and claustrophobic I have to ensure I am fully distracted from any conscious thinking. Which leads my neatly to the topic of this post … books. When on holiday I read like a trooper, like seriously, it’s mental. I barely even move from my seat due to being gripped to whatever novel I happen to be reading. Last holiday I went on (2 weeks) I read 6 books … which I should add did make me a little unsociable so this time I’m thinking I may have to calm this down a tad.
I usually purchase a few new books before I go away, I always like to mix a gripping morally controversial book (e.g. I read a lot of Jodi Picoult) with some very relaxed chick literature – Celia Ahern, Jill Mansell, and Marian Keyes being my faves, and absolute go to authors. Now I (sadly?) have read all of their books, and so for this holiday am going to read some new alternative chick lits that I actually got given this Christmas but still haven’t got round to reading.
Rather than spend a ton of money of reading literature this year, I decided i’d pile together all of the books that i’ve bought in the last 6 months that I’ve not got round to reading and Voila, this is my pile. Like I said, i’m going to limit the volume I take this holiday, i’m going to aim for 4, this is mostly because I don’t want to waste suitcase weight on books… i have WAY too many clothes for that. haha.
I’m looking forward to reading Fifty Shades of Grey, despite hearing it’s the worst book ever, I do like to give my own opinion so I shall be giving this a whirl. I’m finally going to read The Girl Who Played With Fire which has been on my ‘to read’ list for over a year now, and I think i’ll probably take 1 Jodi Picoult (there’s only so much of her books you can read in one go as they’re pretty hard hitting – albeit i LOVE them) and one of these chick flits which I got in my Christmas stocking this year.
So there you go, whilst your reading this, I’ll be reading those (in 35 degree heat … swoon). Have you read any of these novels, what did you think? Who are your go to authors?

I’m also a juge Jodi Picoult fan, i’ve read everything to date by her & am always itching for the next one to come out. My all time favourite of hers is The Pact, I think i’ve read it about 20 times!
At the moment i’m reading my way through the super girly Lindsey Kelk ‘I heart..’ series- I’d recommend!

I love the millennium trilogy! Larssons a favourite of mine. I read 50 shades of grey with that same attitude but unnaturally the masses are right. It’s terrible :)
I always take too may books with me and become an unsociable git on holiday, need to change that :)

You should check out Sophie Kinsella’s books – I’m on a mission to read them all and I’m nearly there! I think they’re fab, very laid back, girly, easy reads! xx

I’ve read 50 Shades – wouldn’t say it was awful, not my favourite book but an alright read! I’m really into crime/sci-fi novels, my go-to authors are Dean Koontz and Simon Kernick at the moment! x
