More often that not us girls take ourselves for granted, and one of the most poignant areas we see this is with our poor old hair. If you have gorgeous naturally curly hair, it’s a pain to deal with and you wish it were straight, poker straight haired ladies find it dull and they can’t do anything with it and would just love to have hair like yours instead. Short haired ladies lust over the long long locks they never had, whilst long haired females find it hard to manage and would love the gorgeous neatly trimmed bob of the woman next to her. No matter what your hair type, I can almost certainly say, I bet at some point you’ve longed for hair like someone else’s?
Now I’m not going to lie, despite having thick, long, blonde (bleached) hair, I’m always jealous of those surfer babes with natural blonde wavy hair, and long for the light brown dip dyed style that everyone rocks these days, I think fringes look fab & a short cute bob ‘well I could never pull that off, my face is too big’. But over the years, despite adoring many other peoples hair, I’ve got to know mine a little better. Yes it’s thick and i’m useless at maintaining it, yes it’s bleached and a little dry, and yes it’s pretty unoriginal … but actually I do love my hair just how it is.
Most of this love has developed from learning how to tame my hair & also finding products on route which really do revolutionise hair styling. Whether or not it’s my hair conditioning treatments (the aussie ones work great for me), hair oil (i’m loving Moroccan oil), straighteners (i’ve mastered the curl technique) or my most recent find … blow drying your hair.
. GHD AIR hairdryer £99 (C/O) .
Whenever I leave the hairdressers, I cannot help but admire how soft my hair is, how perfectly it falls & how bloody long it stays there. Now I’ll let you in on a little secret, i’ve worked out that it’s not that hard to do yourself … give yourselfs 15 mins & a GOOD hairdryer, and the results aren’t half bad. I’ve recently been using the GHD Air hairdryer, which i’m not going to lie, is absolutely incredible. It’s like having the salon at home (minus the head massage). My hair takes ages to dry and normally I just end up looking like a frizzy lion, but since using this new hair dryer, it really has transformed my post wash hair. It’s made her maintenance quicker, easier and actually far more fun (and successful).
So in honour of my favourite new little life saver, I thought i’d share with you my most worn hair styles & how I create them.
No1. Curly Hair
Whenever I have a little time on my side, this is my go to hair style. I’m truly useless at doing my hair usually, but over the years I’ve really got the knack of doing this style & I really like the way it looks. I can’t quite curl it all myself with the hairdryer alone (yet), but I kick off with an intense drying session, using my GHD Air dryer and a thick brush to tame out all the frizz (top tip, point the dryer down as you do it, not directly on your hair – it eases out any frizzy bits). I flick the ends out as I’m drying it, and leave the main bit of curling to my GHD’s. I just have the standard ones (white) but find them really easy to curl my hair – I slide them down from the top, and as I get about half way, I flick it up and then slide down with the GHD’s on edge, as i reach the bottom i wind it all up, and leave for a couple of seconds before releasing. Voila, ringlets.
2. Poker Straight
Despite this being the most longed for hair style in the 90’s these days it’s probably my least favourite. Now this is mainly because I always straighten my hair with a half hearted effort (and end of with crazy curly bits in odd patches all over). However, when I do it properly, i’ve realised I don’t even need to use my straighteners at all. I have naturally curly hair, but if I blow dry my hair (using a brush & the concentrator nozzle) it actually gets my hair a perfect straight (no frizz) but still maintains the volume of my hair. Since learning how to blow dry my hair this has been my favourite discovery, straight hair but with volume (sometimes straighteners can flatten hair too much I find).
3. Up Tight
And finally, my laziest, yet competing for favourite, hairstyle has to be a messy pony tale or bun. I pretty much live with my hair in a top not. As I mentioned, my hair is so thick and pretty hard to control, so tying it into a big messy bun actually works perfectly for me, it saves me so much time and is a go to style when I don’t have time to do anything else. My favourite up dos are pony tale, messy top not & a donut bun. I also sometimes wear it in a side plait with my fringe pinned into a big quiff.
You may have noticed that I ALWAYS pin my fringe up, this is purely because I cannot style my side fringe & I get super irritated when my hair is on my face. This means that I absolutely always sport a big front quiff or my fringe pinned up – as I’m sure you’ve noticed ;)
So voila, if you’re still reading, BRAVO. I hope you found my little hair insights interesting, I always love finding out how other people do their hair, so thought i’d share my routine too.
I’d love to hear your top tips for hair maintenance and how you tend to style your hair on a daily basis?

You have gorgeous hair! Mine is very long and dead straight and my curls, waves or anything else lasts for about an hour no matter what products I use or whether I’m away from the wind or not! A complete nightmare! But in all the annoyance of it, I do infact love my hair!

I love your hair all the ways you style it but do love your top knot! And you’re right, I’m always wanting the hair I don’t have. My hair is so limp boring and bleh! I’m thinking of dying it darker but I really, really am not sure – Opinions please?! I know it’ll always look better blonde but I’m just bored now, and I’m not putting a fringe back in – ever!

Love the hair tips! I have been thinking about investing in the GHD dryer. Having had long hair since I could grow it and recently braving the chop, I am learning how to blow dry and style it properly all over again! Thanks for sharing x

Great post! I am so useless with anything to do with hair – i have it down most of the time, backcombed a little to try and give it some volume as ny hair is very fine and flat. My go to product is mattifying powder to give my hair a little oomph. Love your curls – might have a go trying to do this with my straighteners!
