Good Things Come To Those Who Wait?

February 2, 2012

Well they say good things come to those who wait, I’m not sure I am 100% convinced. A while ago I won a £20 voucher for pop couture which was fab, so I decided to have a browse and purchase something that I wouldn’t normally buy (it seemed like a good idea at the time). And that is what I did,. To give a little context, firstly I never wear purple and secondly I hate the feel of velvet. So naturally I chose this purple velvet dess (again, it seemed like a good idea at the time). I had a bit of long wait for it to be delivered (they’d taken my payment but deleted my order, DOH), but anyway when it finally got delivered I was excited to see my dress in real life. Naturally disappointment swam over me when I realised it seriously was purple, and yes, I did hate the feel of velvet. Well duh! Anyway, I didn’t want to be quick to judge on appearance only so decided to try it on and give it a little outing.
. Pop Couture Purple Velvet Dess . Dune Wedges . Accessorize Belt . Sisters Sequin Jacket .
So here it is, and I must say despite my initial disappointment when opening my package, since trying it on and giving a little style overhaul – I took off the belt it came with and teamed with my own accessories, I actually don’t mind it so much after all. It’s definitely a dress I’d save for evenings out, as I fear if I attempted to dress it down I could look quite gothic, but that may just be because I need some ‘day time look’ inspiration.

Have you got any tips for dressing velvet skater dresses down? How would you wear this look? Also, have you ever bought from pop couture, how was your experience?

I have a velvet skater dress from Topshop and i usually just wear it with a cardigan/long blazer with layered jewelry! I also have a post on my blog – rachelpan – featuring Pop Couture, i have a few items from them and they’re all so nice.

I’ve seen a few people with similar dresses and for day time looks they’ve added a little knitted jumper so it looks like a skirt, and then wear tights and boots! It really tones the velvet down a bit :) I think the purple suits you though with your blonde hair! Xxx

I also do not wear purple and dislike the feel of velvet! But I must say you’ve worn it beautifully and subtly ( without looking at all gothic). Looks lovely xxx
