. Rimmel Lipstick No 214 – Firecracker (around £5.50) .
Annoyingly this is my second iteration of this post, I wrote a lovely long review on my fab new lippy and it very randomly just got deleted from my blog drafts. Grr. Anyway, second time lucky, here is one of my new lippies (I subsequently post buying this one also bought another one a couple of days later – more to come on that). It’s Rimmel in No.214 – Firecracker and is a step in the right direction on my quest to find a red lippy that suits me.
A little context to this is that i’ve been on the hunt to find a nice bold red colour lipstick that actaully suits me. I’ve discovered a few things so far, 1) I can’t apply my lipstick at all, 2) I don’t suit glossy reds, 3) it’s all about matching the colour to your skin tone. I’ve actually been sent a lovely list of lipsticks to try out which are all apparently perfect shades for my skin tone, so i’m going on the hunt for these soon :)
So back to Rimmel Firecracker – I’d describe the colour as rouge – not sure why as that means red, but it sounds like the right word for it haha, anyway, the colour is a very subtle red with a strong tint of pink throughout. I actually think it has a slight element of coral within it too. Basically it’s a lovely summery red shade. The fact it’s a fairly subtle red works well for me, it’s eased me in gently and isn’t too scary.
The texture of this lipstick is very matte, which again i’ve worked out is a good thing for me. I find it much easier to apply as it doesn’t bleed into my skin like other more moisture rich or glossy lipsticks do. It’s actually is very forgiving too, perfect for the non pro lipstick applier, so I would recommend for those of you like me, who are pretty useless at lippy.
The other thing I like about this lipstick is the price, at around £5, it feels like a really good value product and I’m definitely pleased with my investment so far ;)
What is your favourite shade of lipstick? What do you think of this firecracker shade? Also, I hope you all have a fab bank holiday today. I am going on a barge put crawl including lots of pub grub and wine … so excited.

This is a really beautiful shade, I might try it out.. I really struggle to wear darker shades of lipstick. x

Great review! That’s a really nice shade on you! I find I have trouble finding subtle shades to suit my skin tone! They always seem to make me look washed out, or are too orangey – I hate orange. So the only lipstick I use is Ruby Red by Collection 2000, which is a slightly dark bright red. I need dark ones, the pilla box reds are too much for me.

I can’t pull off red lips at all, it makes me too aware of my less than white teeth! My favourite ever lipstick is Angel by Mac…a pretty pink that seems to suit me!
