You know when you buy something that is so not your usual style, well this outfit is so that. First off I am really not a big fan of ‘simple’ t-shirt dresses (reminds me of my uni days & I think some can look super cheap) and second of all I have never worn / been a fan of midi length dresses. So lord knows what came over me when I bought this dress from Topshop … but I was weirdly so drawn to it and had images of a very casual Boheme styled outfit featuring the loose dress, leather jacket and my amazing KG sandals – I will snap this look soon.
. Topshop Midi Dress (Size6 – comes up big) . H&M Jacket . Marni H&M Heels . Mulberry Bag .
I’d originally weeks ago tried on the mini version of this dress, but resisted as I have so many clothes and I didn’t really need another dress despite how cute I thought it looked. Then I was popping into topshop to buy some tights when I saw this midi length one (also in the sale – BOOM). Given it was now £19 I felt even more drawn to it, I tried it on and instantly wanted to style it up.
I love some peoples style when it’s so casual chic with loose dresses and blouses and I felt this dress could be the perfect opportunity for me to try it out myself (I always end up having a more dressed up / smarter style). So I purchased and wore it for the first time at the weekend for ‘date night’ with Jase … i felt really funny in it (kind of like a grandma) but also really cool at the same time haha. I teamed it with my Marni heels and H&M burgundy jacket – annoyingly I didn’t have my leather jacket on hand. I quite liked the look and it was super comfy for our dinner out and cocktail bar finale.
I don’t think it’s necessarily a very flattering dress, but I do like it, and I definitely think the more I wear it the more it will grow on me :)
Here are a couple of snaps from last night too – my sister turned 18 on Wednesday and so last night I came home and surprised her with her pressie and dinner out in Winchester. We have a big family birthday meal for her tonight which will be ace but i’m gutted that I have to miss the Boohoo event tonight :(
What do you think of midi length dresses? Do you like this plain t-shirt one and the way I styled it? Don’t forget to enter my Feud blog competition here too

I think this looks great on you :) I tried this on and it looked really frumpy on me, I’ve got the shorter version but still not convinced it suits me – you win some, you lose some! I love that H&M Jacket :)

I’m a big t-shirt dress kinda person, seeing as 90% of my dresses are this style.. but I’ve always been put off by the midi length ones, despite lusting after this Topshop one so many times! I just never knew what I’d wear with it, and like you say I think I’d feel Grandma like due to the length as I’m used to wearing shorter things (just clearly prefer to expose my bum instead!)
ANYWAY, it looks really lovely on you, my immediate choice would be a leather jacket paired with it too but it looks SO good with your burgundy jacket, the colour paired with the grey go so well together. Really need to stop leaving essay length comments on your posts! xx

I like the way you’ve styled it, I think the heels definitely make it look a bit more dressy but it really suits you. I wish I could wear midi dresses but I’m just too small, you look really cute.

You’ve styled it really nicely here, esp love the jacket. I think this dress is pretty useless as it can be dressed up or down and it really looks good on you! xx

Think this outfit is lovely, sometimes simplicity can look just as good as ‘overdone’ :) xxx

I love that dress, especially with the shoes and the jacket! I was tempted by it but thought it looked too boring but now I’ve seen how you’ve styled it, I want it again!
Are you from Winchester? I’m living there at the moment! Looks like you went to Dim T, my favourite restaurant! x

I think that this dress has been styled perfectly. The jacket adds a bit of an ‘edge’ to the looks and the necklace is gorgeous! This dress isn’t something I would usually go for but I think it looks great on you!

First of all, there is no way you could go wrong with those shoes and that purse.
I am literally in pain. Both of those are the PERFECT mix of woodsy and chic. I really adore them. The wood with the streamline black is the perfect contrast, and the long dainty strap with the slightly masculine bag again juxtaposes two wonderfully complimentary elements.
And I don’t know why you don’t like dresses like this – because it looks AWESOME on you. I love the simplicity, and you can now do so much with it. It’s so basic, but can be styled in any way.
Funny you post this, b/c I just bought my first shirt dress too – a white silky one from American Apparel. Can’t wait to see your other styling picks for ideas. I will definitely be wearing mine with a purse like this, AND my wooden-heeled shoes though – love love love. May even try out for graduation?? So inspired!
Thanks for the great post!

I’m too small to wear the mid length dresses unless with heels of course but love how you’ve paired this with the jacket!
