Outfit

Sun Speckles

July 31, 2012

I’m very lucky in what I’m able to wear to work, the media and advertising industries in general are fairly liberating in ‘uniform’, in that there’s no strict rules or suit requirements. I love this, as it means I get to wear all my lovely clothes on a daily basis, and it’s a great excuse to keep purchasing new clothes. Every now and then you do want to dress relatively smart for a meeting, but at the same time not wear a boring suit. Hello the LBD.

Black dresses are fab, what I particularly love about them the most is that they’re sort of a blank slate. As long as you find yourself a black dress that fits the way you want it, it’s pretty much up to you how you style it, and they really can be transformed with accessories.
For example, add some studded ankles boots and a neon chunky necklace & you’ve got a really cool weekend look, add some Marni platforms and a black stud clutch and you have the perfect evening dress, and in today’s post, add a belt & gold necklace, with some smart black heels and a tote and you have a great work outfit. Oh the opportunities.
. Sugarlips Apparel Black Shift Dress (C/O) . Marni (H&M colab) Heels . Mulberry Holly Bag .
. Primark Necklace . Charity Shop Belt .
This dress is actually a shift, and very heavy on the shoulders, the ruffled detail adds a lot of volume to this area, and so by adding a belt to the dress it sort of stops you drowning in it (I nicked this one from my sister). I don’t often wear V neck either, and so I sneakily added this gold necklace to cover the collar line, and I really like how it looks. It’s such a simple & comfy look but would make a great work outfit.
I’m back in London today after meetings in the midlands yesterday, glad to be back & excited for this evening as I’m being taken VIP to the BT Hyde Park Olympics event. Lots of yummy food and drink and apparently Rebecca Fergusons performing. Should be super fun.
What do you think of this LBD styling? How would you wear this dress?

Lovely outfit! Really like the necklace and your belt. I can wear whatever I want to work too but always end up in jeans and very casual – this is a great way to smarten up my work outfit! I would wear this with my favourite Topshop Chelsea boots.

I’m not a huge fan of V necks either, but this necklace really covers that up and makes the dress look so much prettier! Love the shape of the dress and how you’ve styled it! Jealous of the Mulberry! xx
