Outfit

Swinging The Seasonal Circles

February 20, 2013

So this weekend, whilst rummaging in my wardrobe I had a mild panic at the sheer volume of clothes that I own, since starting working 4 years ago and then starting my blog a year or so ago I’ve seriously stepped up my clothes purcases. There’s something about graduating from uni, getting a job and earning that just makes you feel like you deserve to buy whatever you want. So for the last 4 years I have been doing just that.
Back in the day i’d have clothes that I’d style all year round, layered up or down dependent on the weather, these days I have enough clothes to create a serious wardrobe for every freakin’ season. Whilst this sounds super, it does make me anxious as a) it takes up a LOT of space, b) you forget about certain clothes, and c) just generally the sheer volume is panic inducing.
So anyway, I’ve taken the step to start selling some of my less loved items of clothing, but also to start wearing some of my more seasonal items anytime of year. Making an effort to deliberately pick a summer dress and style it for winter. It does actually allow you to create some quite cool looks, and this is one I styled this weekend in light of my clothing revolution / resolution.
. Glamorous Mauve Dress . Topshop Leather Jacket . Vintage Satchel . H&M Fur Stole .

This Glamorous dress is one I got in the summer last year, I wore it a fair bit back then, but always struggled with its length, the under layer is beyond ridiculously short, so I was always conscious my butt was on show. Post pulling it out my wardrobe this weekend, and my boyfriend saying it was really nice, I decided to give it another go. But this time with some winter touches. A simple pair of high denier tights transformed the dress immediately and made it feel instantly longer, and a leather jacket just took away the summery feel, and gave it a more edgier look.
I was really happy with the outfit, and actually the gorgeous mauve bought a bit of happiness out – colour really does effect the way you feel I find. So whilst I’m now on a ‘spring clean’ revolution and will be thoroughly searching through my wardrobe and selling on some bits, I’m also going to be looking to create more looks with my fave items of clothes. Rather than just simply ignoring them for half the year.
What do you think of my outfit? How do you cope with an ever increasing wardrobe and seasonal clothing?

Great outfit, I love it! The dress is really pretty and I like the styling with the black. I’m afraid I have the same problem… I have SO many clothes because I buy things when I see them and don’t always get to wear them straight away and quite often forget about them until I have a clear out. In order to cope, I shuffle the things I don’t like so much off to mum and dad’s to wear when I visit home so I don’t need to take a huge bag every time :)

I adore your dress Mel plus I can’t believe you only started your blog just over a year ago, you’re so well known! I have exactly the same problem with my wardrobe, I have far too many clothes that some don’t even get a look in.

You definitely inspired me to make a start on clearing/tidying my wardrobe.
