Last week I started my new job. I’ve worked in the media industry for a few years now (4years+) and so I have gauged office wear and industry dress codes by now. I like the advertising / media industry I work in, as whilst professionalism and looking respectable is highly important, individuality and personal style is welcomed, and there’s no uniform suit and boot enforcements. My style naturally tends to be slightly more classic / preppy and smart anyway, so what I tend to wear in the week, doesn’t differ to what I would choose to wear normally.
Anyway, when it comes to starting a new job, you take a little more care piecing together your outfit for the first day. You want to wear something nice, professional and smart but also still ‘you’. And so todays post is just that, and is actually the outfit I wore on my first day at my new company.
The only minor difference is the shoes, I swapped my leopard booties for some tan wedged brogues when I left the house, as I felt they were a little more subtle and understated. But generally this outfit is all about the dress … this is my AX Paris number which I also wore to the French Connection event quite recently. This dress is a real fave of mine, it’s super chic, simple but also really smart. I’ve worn it so much since I got it, it’s become a real staple for me. In fact, I’m actually planning to buy it in a few more colours when they come back in stock, a nice coral or mint shade would be perfect for spring.
. AX Paris Shift Dress . Zara Leopard Ankle Boots . Brit-Stitch Satchel . Accessorize Necklace .
The dress is so classic, you can really spice things up with accessories. I added all my tortoise shell favourites to the look as they went perfectly and gave the dress an additional chic boost. At the weekends I always wear my Brit-Stitch satchels as they’re perfect for pottering round town, but for work I tend to use my Holly Mulberry bag as it holds a lot more and generally looks quite smart. I’ve featured it in lot’s my posts as it’s currently my staple handbag, but I also have a few other Mulberry’s which I’ve collected over time which I sometimes swap in too.
Despite the fact it’s super annoying having to take pictures at 7am in the morning, I do love days like this when the sun rises behind me and I manage to capture the dawn sunlight. Not bad for a tripod and remote sesh.
What do you think of my Navy shift dress? Are you a fan of this kind of look? What do you wear to work?

Its so hard to come up with the perfect first day outfit, I usually take days to decide on mine. You seem to have hit the nail on the head tho! Smart but individual, just like you.

Congrats on the new job and hope it goes well for you. I know the feeling of what to wear on first days at new job. I start my new jib in May so I have the same dilema. Your look was perfect and good thing you swapped the boots for the wedges cos soon as I saw he photo I was like oooo thats a bit much for first day. I’m more of a dress and skirt girl so thats what I mostly will wear to work.
xoxo
