I DID AN ACTUAL DIY

June 13, 2013

. DIP DIE DIY .

So this post has been a long time coming, time has escaped me slightly, but i’m proud to finally share with you all my very exciting DIY.  Boohoo have been encouraging us bloggers to start pimping up our wardrobes and giving our clobber a little bit of unique styling. To get us on our way we each received a nifty little DIY kit as well as our garment for playing with, mine was a black maxi.
So ruining the element of surprise, here’s what I did … dip dye. I’ve never dip dyed before, but after seeing this pretty awesome ralph lauren dress I felt inspired to recreate the look. I initially had wanted to do the whole dress, but after reading and watching lots of Dip Dye tutorials, I decided I should take baby steps and go for an ombre style look. And here’s how I did it …
. I started with a simple black Maxi dress, from Boohoo (£10) .
. I added bleach ( quite a bit, free pouring naturally) to a drop of water in a bucket .. I then tied a know in the dress and left it to soak . . I accidentally left the dress to soak for about 6 hours but it turned out to be a perfect amount of time though . . Post soaking in the bleach, I gave the dress a thorough rinse and left it out in the sun to dry .. Voila … a few hours later and there you have it, the finished look .I actually really love what I’ve managed to create, the dip dye actually looks pretty good for a first attempt – despite some smudging on the back which is from me being clumsy. In hind sight the dip dye could have gone a few more inches up the dress, to make it stand out a little more, but all in all it’s not bad. I think it looks fab styled with some simple summer sandals and casual jewelery for a cool summer or festival look.
I’ll be posting a full outfit post with the dress in soon, so stay tuned.
What do you think of my first proper DIY attempt? Are you a fan of the dip dye look, and the ombre style?

That’s amazing! I’ve been “dye-ing” to dip dye for a while now but haven’t had the guts and thought it was sooo complicated. Thanks for sharing an easy way for us simple folk!!
