CULTURE CLASH

September 5, 2013

. RACER BACK .

One of the thing I love about clothes and fashion is the fun you can have in playing dress up. I love having the opportunity to challenge my style by mixing up garments and playing on the versatility of each item and I love the free reign that comes with styling, giving you the chance to add your own personal touches to a look and challenge the stereotypical purpose of a garment.

I’ve had this leather skirt for months and months now, and I’ve featured it on my blog a number of times, usually styled for evenings out and dinner dates. However today’s post is a slightly different twist on my little leather skirt …

. H&M Leather Pencil Skirt £60 . High Top Converse . She Likes Cut Out Bodysuit £10 c/o .

When I received this top from She Likes I immediately decided I wanted to style it in a relatively edgy, grungy festival / skater style outfit (maybe in a look i’d wear to a festival or gig). I loved the cut out style of the top and wanted to play on the laid back side of this (opposed to the sultry sexy styling you could incorporate it into), but style the top within an outfit that’s my style.

As I’ve been wearing my leather skirt as a day look quite a lot lately (styled with big knit jumpers or casual tee’s) I decided it would be the perfect item to wear with my new cut out tee, also giving the skirt a different styling to what you’d usually expect it to be worn in (e.g. smart chic looks). I think the top and skirt work really well together – it actually could create a rather dressy look, but I added converse as they really do epitomise laid back chic in my opinion.

What do you think of this laid back look? How would you wear a cut out top like this? Do you like the laid back skater style?
