EVENT STYLE

September 25, 2014

. TRANSITIONING YOUR OUTFIT FROM DAY TO NIGHT.

This time last week I made my way across London to the Cosmopolitan #FashFest event after a day at work. These sorts of events are always a ‘must make’ in my calendar, but of course it’s always a case of dashing from work and never a glamorous affair for me. Post work events also always throw a little outfit conundrum into the mix, dressing work appropriate, but looking suitably done up for the evenings activities. It’s a challenge over the years I feel i’ve come to master, and I have a couple of tricks that I always rely on to transform my look from day to night. Flats to heels. Nude lip to red lip. Minimal eye makeup to liquid liner, and also dependent on occasion tights to no tights. All these tricks were applied to my look for last Thursday evening …

. ZARA PATENT SKIRT . ZARA OPEN BACK BLOCK HEELS . MISSGUIDED FITTED TOP . MODALU CLUTCH .
. RECREATE THE LOOK .

My key priority for my outfit was looking comfortable. I find there is nothing worse than feeling overexposed or uncomfortable when attending an event, and so my choice of outfit was all about a look that i’d feel comfortable in and also feel myself in. My new Zara patent skirt was an easy decision, it’s so comfortable & something I love to wear, plus it has a bit of glamour to it which made it the perfect transitional garment. I teamed the skirt with a very simple, fitted, understated high neck top which is an oldie from Missguided (actually a dress) which kept the skirt as the statement piece and showed off the skirt in full. My shoes of choice were my Zara open back ankle boots which I think are perfect for Autumn and a great combination of day time suitable but with a little evening twist (I swapped into these from some patent loafers which I wore to work with tights)! My jewellery remained the same as always but I finished the look with my modalu clutch bag to keep things a bit more ‘event ready’.

What do you think of the look? What are you tricks for converting your looks from day time suitable to night time ready?
