PERFECT BASICS

December 10, 2014

. PERFECTING THE BASICS .

Perfecting the basics isn’t difficult when you’ve got some good garments to work with. I often find myself admiring the simplest of looks when i’m reading through magazines, browsing pinterest or reading my favourite blogs. But often I think the look is harder to get right than it might actually look, that kind of ‘effortful effortless’. One little trick i’ve learnt over the last 12 months is that much of the ‘look’ actually comes down to the quality of garments & that this can have quite the affect on the finished ensemble. As a result over the last year or so i’ve upped my ‘quality’ game, and have attempted the ‘buy less, choose well’ mantra, and I have to say it has made a difference to my outfits!

. WHISTLES RIPPED JEANS . TOPSHOP WHITE SHIRT . COS TEXTURED SWEATER .
. REISS ZELDA TRILBY HAT . PHILLIP LIM PASHLI (STORM / MEDIUM) . ZARA PUMPS .
This look includes a few of my favourite ‘basic’ items, which when combined make for a rather punchy and chic work or weekend look. These whistles ripped knee jeans are the ultimate in effortless, they do all the work for you with the perfect fit & perfectly worn knees. I teamed my denim with a simple white shirt which always adds a crisp & chic touch to any look, styled underneath this understated textured sweater from cos. There’s something seriously subtle about this jumper but at the same time it makes all the difference to an otherwise basic look! The finishing touches were of course colour coordinated (i say of course, but really this is a first for me), my navy patent Zara pumps, with my Reiss Zelda trilby hat (a new purchase and one i absolutely love) and of course my other love, Phil. Mr Lim comes with me everywhere these days so it was quite fortunate the storm colour matched the blue tones perfectly.

Are you a ‘basics’ perfectionist? What’s your go to staple look & styling tips?
