MASTER EVERYDAY WORK WEAR WITH THREE STAPLE PIECES

August 31, 2016

Mastering your everyday work wear with three staple pieces

Dressing for work can be a challenge, there’s a drive to look your best, dress like a girl boss and generally look & feel confident in your outfit, yet this is contradicted with an innate desire to just be comfortable. If only pyjamas were acceptable in the office right?

This struggle is something I face every single day, some days my inner girl boss takes reign and I rock a power outfit with tons of enthusiasm, other days I look in the mirror and realise I look like I’ve just stumbled out of bed. And no one wants to look like they’ve stumbled out of bed, not least when you’re meeting clients, running a team and generally trying to look professional.  And that’s where the fail safe every day work wear ensemble comes in, and for me this relies on three key pieces …

. Some Classic Worn Denim . An Oversized Boyfriend  Shirt . The Power Pump .

SHOT ON A CANON 5DIII & CANON 50MM 1.4 LENS

For me everyday work wear requires three statement pieces; a classic denim jean, a capsule & classic shirt and a serious shoe to finish things off. Whilst denim might not feel like a suitable work wear option, the rise of Fashion Bloggers has disproved that theory entirely in my opinion. These days a good fitting pair of jeans can look undeniably chic, effortlessly professional and rather powerful too. A lot of the outfits I pin are a sophisticated denim ensemble, pairing a good pair of jeans (preferably slightly rough & ready) with an oversized, crisp shirt creates the perfect work outfit. Either a starch white boyfriend shirt or a classic chambray or stripe shirt works best in my opinion; but the key is opting for something a little oversized (a tailored shirt would KILL this look). But what takes this ensemble from ‘painting attire’ to ‘girl boss office wear’ is of course a killer shoe. Whether it’s a designer pump, a pointed brogue, or something a little more classic like these Zara flats (or these New Look alternatives) or the ultimate Prada loafer. A classic and formal shoe is what transitions this look into a professional, chic work attire, that I believe even the Parisians would be proud of (after all they are the Queens of effortless chic work wear). And of course my personal ‘finishing touch’ is always a luxe accessory …

Are you part of team ‘denim for work’, or do you tend to save your boyfriend jeans and oversized shirts for weekends … if you fall in the latter camp, I urge you to add a killer shoe and give it a test run in the office. It’s an absolute fail safe for me and with the right pieces, I’m sure it could be for you too!

I’ve just started my first ‘big girl’ office job so have been using your blog as a source of office style inspiration! I’m yet to trial jeans in the office (smart casual, eh?) as I just feel jeans just are too casual even though half the office seems to wear them! I’ll have to pop an emergency pair of heels into my desk drawer and whip them on with some jeans one day – I’ll let you know how I get on!
