HOW TO MASTER YOUR WORKWEAR THIS NEW YEAR

January 3, 2017

How To Master Your Back To Work Style; Workwear 101

It’s officially the first day back to work, and whether you’re tackling this from the comfort of your own home or facing the commute head on, it’s still a struggle for us all. Not least because pyjamas are no longer a suitable form of attire, and those off duty buns and makeup free days are a little more difficult to justify.

Aside from the 7am alarm, the severe delays on the district line and the full load of emails to tackle, probably the hardest thing about the return to work is knowing what on earth to wear. And hoping everything still fits is just an added dilemma.

For me ‘back to work’ workwear has to deliver on a few key factors. Quite obviously comfort is key, when you’re used to wearing Ugg slippers and your dads over-sized knitwear day in and day out, swapping into stilettos and too tight pencil skirts is just a first world nightmare. After all comfort is key to confidence. But let’s not forget that this is also the beginning on a new year, a year of big ambitions & career goals, and you want to start the year on the right foot right? So balancing comfort and warmth (because if you’re in the UK then 3 degrees is a reality), with a professional and sophisticated look is essential.

SHOP THE BACK TO WORKWEAR STYLE EDIT

. TOPSHOP STRIPE TROUSERS (ALTERNATIVE) . ASOS CASHMERE KNIT . SCOTCH & SODA SCARF  (NOW IN SALE). WHISTLES NAVY COAT (SIMILAR) . RUSSELL & BROMLEY LOAFERS . CHLOE HAYLEY .

What I’ve come to learn over the years though, is that this isn’t impossible to master. Whether it’s a pair of cigarette trousers & a slighty oversized knit (tick, today’s look is case in point), a shift dress with a pair of chic boots,  or even your best pair of skinnies & loafers with a sophisticated silk blouse. It’s always handy to have a few fail safe looks in your back pocket, and today I thought i’d share one of mine.

How are you tackling the back to work wardrobe challenge? Do you have any fail safe workwear outfits you rely on?

Thank you for the outfit inspiration! I started a new job in December and am still getting used to dressing for work. This is really helpful.

Those transitional months are so hard in the office aren’t they! And woolly jumpers are not acceptable this side of Christmas :( Great post and inspo!

I definitely had a difficult time adjusting back to normal work wear attire and doing my hair! The holidays were so comfy and nice! Thank you for a great transitional look. I love those loafers and that super comfy scarf. XO, Ellese
