I was very honored when the gorgeous @Petticoattrain invited me to do a guest blog for her on petticoattrain. She asked me some fab questions and I actually really enjoyed answering them all. The guest post is all about how I got into blogging, my inspiration and my mish mashed wardrobe style. Check it out below :)
• Why did you start blogging and where do you get the inspiration for your posts.
Mediamarmalade has not actually been around all that long, but since I launched it in 2011 I’ve become a total blogging addict and I am absolutely loving it. I actually have just won British Style Blogger of the month and am unbelievably over the moon and chuffed that my blog has been received so well.
To be honest I can’t believe I didn’t start sooner. It all came about as one of my closest friends confided in me that she’d been blogging for a year or so. She invited me to a blogging event with her, and I was instantly transfixed with the whole blogging world. I was so inspired by what she’d done and how she’d built this beautiful blog full of all her favourite things, I wanted to be involved. She encouraged me to start my own … It probably has something to do with my extreme shopping habit, addiction to Mulberry and absolute adoration for all things clothes, shoes, bags and fashion.
When I am writing my blog, I tend to just get inspiration from everything around me. I work in media and am a fashion magazine and celebrity junky so am always following latest trends & catching up on A list event styling. This always makes me start thinking about things I’d like to wear and styles I’d like to pull off. It also doesn’t help that I work in Covent garden, home of some amazing stores and only 10 mins from Oxford street (OUCH). I’ve always wanted to be a fashion magazine editor (a long lustful dream), and I treat my blog as my way to indulge in this ulterior career.
• Difficult to do, but describe your style for us?
To be honest, I’m not really sure how you’d describe my style and fashion sense … all I can really say is i am a compulsive shopper, live far beyond my means and am always hunting for the next must have item. I don’t necessarily follow trends, I tend to just buy things I like (OFTEN). That’s why my wardrobe is so jumbled and why my outfit choices and styling can change drastically from day to day. Some days I am pretty rah, others I can be on trend with skinnys and heels, and some-days I like to glam up with the seasons latest crazes.
There is one thing about my style which is always a given … I am a huge lover of designer handbags & shoes. So whatever my outfit of choice, and no matter how cheap and chic I dress, I will ALWAYS be teaming my look with one of my favourite Mulberry bags, my KG’s and my staple jewellery pieces.
• You seem to have the world of clothes, describe your favourite item at the moment.
Oh god, I do. I am a shopping addict and compulsive purchaser. My bank balance hates me and it is true I do seem to have a world of clothes (and am in desperate need of a walk in wardrobe … Mr Big where are you?). I travel a lot and like to pick pieces up from wherever I go, and really I just can’t say no.
I found a fab vintage shop in Amsterdam this year, which I managed to spend all my holiday money in on the first day. I think that summaries me quite well, always living far beyond my means. But I do truly believe you only live one, so if you love it, just get it, you may as well enjoy our money while you have it (this is the mantra I like to reassure myself with daily).
As for my favourite items right now, I am literally addicted to sequins and leather. I’m not sure what it is about the look, but I just can’t get enough of it all. Sequin dresses, Leather pants, JUST GIVE ME THEM! Right now I’m tempted to say my favourite clothing item is my new matt leather trousers, from Topshop I just love them. Despite my huge reservations about leather trousers and the preconception I had that you had to have pin stick bambi legs to pull the look off … I actually love them and they do look really cool. Rock Chic.
• Any favourite fashion haunts in London?
I recently did a post on my blog all about the wonders of Pret a Portobello, an online fashion boutique which manages to collate all the best pieces from the London independent fashion retailers you find at the best London markets. It’s like entering heaven from the comfort of your own sofa.
I do love boutique clothes stores, they always have such cute items at really great prices. But despite my adoration for boutique originals, I am also a huge fan of Zara, KG, French connection and Topshop. High Street must haves and my wardrobe is full of their ranges.
• What other bloggers do you admire and why?
I’m really admiring the photography on lots of blogs at the moment. It’s something I really want to work on and I’m hoping for a new DSLR this Christmas so I can get snapping lots of outfit posts. I think the following blogs are fab, have amazing imagery and are well worth a read (I follow them too).
