Welcome to Villa Alico, Zakynthos
Zakynthos is a Greek island I visited well over 10 years ago for the first time, albeit back then my travelling motivations were far more party orientated and so the infamous Zante was my destination (we’ve all been there, right?). 10 years on my reasons for visiting Zakynthos were far more relaxed and mellow … a weeks relaxation at the beautiful, boutique Peligoni Club. The Peligoni club was a destination family and friends have been recommending for years, but this year is the first time we’ve finally visited (and I can’t believe what we’ve been missing out on).
But before I go on to tell you all about The Peligoni Club (a post coming soon) I wanted to share with you the wonderful Villa Alico that we’re staying in this week, built with clearly a lot of love by Stephano, a local on the Island. Villa Alico is home for the week, and home it certainly feels. Whether it’s the traditional venetian touches that make this boutique Villa feel so welcoming and friendly, or the luxurious touches (like a traditional bread oven & beautiful outdoor dining space, or the fig tree snug where you could lose a whole day with a good book & a glass of Gin) that make you want to move in for good.
Without further ado, come and explore the beautiful Villa Alico ….
Villa Alico is sat perfectly in the middle of the mountainous hill that surrounds the Peligoni Club, making it only a short walk to the sea front (and the club itself) but also a villa with incredible views over the ocean and luscious hillside. Whether that’s from the venetian style bedroom balconies or from the private infinity pool which sits proudly in front of the villa, within the cobbled villa gardens.
The Villa is full of surprises, I mentioned the fig tree snug already, a cosy little area right to the side of the Villa protected by a grand old fig tree with a rustic built in rain shower (making post swim showers pretty special). As well as the beautiful Grecian dining area which makes alfresco dining an absolute necessity (any excuse in my opinion), and it’s not just the bread oven & pretty outdoors dining space, the cooking area is fully kitted out with a traditional greek sink & tin watering tap to really finish things off.
The villa has lots of personal touches which make this home away from home more special than your traditional modern villa … making days when the sun disappears (we’re experiencing thunder and lightening today would you believe it) not so bad after all, because the silver lining is you get to make the most of the inside of this delightful home.
We booked our Villa through the Peligoni Club (we managed to get a great ‘low season’ deal), but you can book the Villa with Booking.com too. The Villa has three bedrooms and sleeps 6 people.
Have you visited Zakynthos before? I would recommend a trip to this greek island to any adventurer looking for an escape to sunshine, sea & the relaxing world of Greece (and if you’re looking for a relaxing and luxurious holiday Villa, then Stephano’s home makes the perfect option).

How beautiful! The villa and its views look absolutely dreamy and what I wouldn’t give to spend a week or two there! I’ve only been to Greece once (Corfu) but in the next couple of year I’m hoping to visit a few more of it’s wonderful islands, so with any luck I will pay Zakynthos a visit too.
