Create a capsule winter wardrobe with some killer key pieces
I’ve realised this year how much I adore an Autumn Winter Wardrobe. As I get older I find myself favouring layers, cosy looks and ensembles that feel that little bit more modest than perhaps a Summer wardrobe requires. Don’t get me wrong I love the summer, but there’s something about long sleeves, the return to denim or chic trousers and of course the layering of jackets, furs or cosy winter coats that just makes me feel totally comfortable in myself and my style and far more at ease with my body too.
For me winter style is luxurious, warming & undeniably chic.
Of course every season my wardrobe is updated with a few seasonal pieces, but generally speaking I have a few fail safe capsule pieces (and ensembles they fall into) which each year, no matter what the trends, become my staples. Introducing the fur gilet, the silk blouse & the killer loafer. No matter what the occasion, the weather or your mood, these three garments always deliver.
BUILD YOUR CAPSULE WINTER WARDROBE WITH THREE KEY PIECES
Luxe Fur Gilet
Okay first things first, a fur gilet. When it comes to winter dressing i’ve always been a coveter of a gilet. If you trawl through the mediamarmalade outfit archives you’ll stumble across a whole variety of fur gilets that i’ve leant on year after year. The fur gilet is chic, sophisticated and exceptionally versatile. The trouble with winter is that often your outerwear becomes the be all and end all of your style. The benefit of a fur gilet is that not only do they look utterly fabulous, they’re very versatile (works perfectly for day to night) but they also show a little more off of your whole outfit. This Reiss gilet was an investment buy last season and a piece I absolutely adore, there are tons of great filets on the high street right now and i’ve shared my top edit below for you to browse. In my opinion their worth an investment.
A Silk Blouse
Silk shirts have made quite the revival this season and with good reason, they’re a luxe take on our favoured boyfriend shirt, and the material makes it a perfect transitional piece for Autumn, Winter. For me the versatility of quality silk blouse makes it a style staple, from a simple denim look like todays outfit, to style with an Aline leather skirt for an evening out, or even under a cropped sleeve suede dress for a smart and sophisticated office look. For me blush & muted tones compliment the texture of silk well, blush pink, egg shell and even dusty burgundy tones look fab. I’ve shared some of my favourites below.
The Classic Loafer
And finally, luxe leather winter boots and suede knee high boots are obviously one of my favourite shoes for winter, but I don’t ever neglect the power of a chic loafer to finish off a look. Whether its a simple shift dress finished off with a leather loafer, or a look like todays with a classic denim jean finished off with a classic pump. For me a selection of good quality loafers are staples for all year around (Russell & Bromley are my favourites for a classic leather loafer), even in the winter months, that little pop of ankle can go a long way.

For me any winter ensemble can be built off of a few key pieces, and for me a silk blouse, a good quality fur gilet and a classic loafer always delivers. Investment pieces transition years and not just seasons and so for me personally, a capsule wardrobe should be quality over quantity. And lets not forget a winter wardrobe doesn’t have to be solely black and grey, blush tones, dark autumnal shades like navy and burgundy work really well and help ensure you’re wardrobe doesn’t leave you looking and feeling dull and dark.
What pieces form your autumn and winter capsule wardrobe? What do you think of the edit i’ve shared today?
