INVESTING IN YOUR HOLIDAY WARDROBE

Living in beach clothes & bikini’s already feels like a million miles from reality now i’m back in the UK, but working on my upcoming travel editorials for the Philippines and Hong Kong is helping keep the warm winter sun in my bones just a little longer and not just that, inspiring my upcoming travel plans too. Which leads me to today’s post.

Whether or not you’re jetting off for some winter sun yourself, or planning trips for later this year, I wanted to share a few wise words on that holiday wardrobe.

Following on from my post back in November all about packing for winter sun, today I wanted to focus on those investment pieces that every holiday wardrobe needs. The pieces worth spending the extra pennies on, my favourite online stores like Farfetch for those investment pieces (their vacation edit is always so on point) and of course a little luxe travel edit for you to browse & shop if you’re feeling naughty.

THREE HOLIDAY ESSENTIALS WORTH THE INVESTMENT

1. BEACH WEAR

First things first, who like me falls into the trap of panic buying 15 bikini’s before they go away, all of which are low enough cost to warrant the emergency next say delivery and all of which end up being packed in your suitcase despite the slightly loose bottom or boob popping top? Yeah me too. I can’t really think of a single panic bought bikini that actually fits me and my figure properly. And here’s the thing, what i’ve learnt over the years is that a good quality and proper fitting bikini is the number one route to beach confidence. If you’re swimwear fits you well, on matter what shape you’re in, you’ll feel better than you do in an ill-fitting low quality number.

Investing in a bikini may feel daunting (so many pennies for so little material), but it’s one such investment you’ll never regret. My favourite shops for luxury swimwear has to be Farfetch & Net A Porter, not only do they stock the best swimwear brands, their vacation edits are available all year round (which for winter sun is a god send).

Second up, is a good quality beach dress. In the past i’d typically buy  Zara & ASOS dresses on mass and end up wearing them for the beach until they eventually become too worn and ruined for any occasion. A beach dress needs to deliver on a fair few things, designed for modesty, yet light weight enough to avoid serious over heating, chic and ideally able to transition you from beach to beach bar to dinner which is inevitably how most summer holiday days end up rolling. That’s a lot to ask of a dress, and that’s why investing in a little something more quality and fit for purpose is worth the pennies. Dodo Bar O is of course hot brand of the moment, and for good reason, their beach dresses are seriously on point and the ideal beach to night outfit. Another brand I’ve been loving for my beach wear is Monorails & Satelites (this navy striped number is one of their new season pieces in fact).

And lets not forget Sunglasses aren’t just a cool fashion accessory, getting good quality sunnies will not only look great but also protect your eyes too. I have a pair of Karen Walker harvest sunglasses which serve me well!

2. LUGGAGE

Spending nearly a grand on two suit cases last year required a good amount of Martini’s before hand, but truth be told, it’s been one of my best travel investments to date. A good quality suitcase will not only serve you well in the short term, but also in the long term too. I personally have two samsonsite cases (one cabin, one hold) which I use for all my trips abroad but also weekends away in the UK. It may not be the most sexy purchase but it’s one of those ‘adult’ buys that you won’t regret.

And it’s not just the suitcase, a durable travel bag is also something I covet (especially if you’re travelling with a laptop and DSLR like I always am). Whether it be a beach bag, laptop case, backpack or ‘all occasion’ bag (I just bought myself the Chloe Faye backpack in tan from Farfetch as not only is it undeniably beautiful, but it’ll also serve me well for travels), ensuring you’ve got reliable, safe, secure (as well as chic) luggage is well worth a few pennies.

3. SKINCARE

Last but not least, skincare (and sneakily chucking in haircare too). Travelling and holidaying is one of those times of year when I really pay a little more attention to my skincare & haircare, from my cleansing routine post a long day by the sea, to my moisture routine which is almost entirely neglected when i’m in the UK, to the most important of all, my skincare protection when I’m out in the sun. Spending a few bob on the best sun tan lotion you can afford (P20 serves me well) and ensuring you’ve got a good and hard working cleanser and moisturiser for your travels is really important, more than that there’s no other time that your hair is crying for moisture and protection than when you’re on holiday. The sun, sea and sand knows how to try those locks out, so investing in the likes of Moroccan oil and a good shampoo and conditioner is money well spent.

You don’t need to be panic buying creme de la mer on board your flight, but it’s definitely worth investing in quality and SPF based products before you travels, your skin and hair will thank you for it!

Of course you can top up your wardrobe with your high street favourites, more trend based items & all the accessories in the world, but investing in a good bikini, a durable suitcase & some premium skincare is always a good idea and a well justified investment.
