Three Reasons Why You Should Embrace Them Still

Culottes, not dissimilar to MOM jeans and high waisted garments, are one of those pieces than repel men. Manrepellars as the wonderful Leandre Medine coined it all those years ago. But they’re one of those items that women and in particular this woman, LOVES.

They’re chic, fashion forward, distinctive and not to mention comfortable.

I for one am a big coveter, so much so that you’ll find pretty much every sartorial take on the culotte in my wardrobe. From your classic chino culotte (navy, camel & tan, tick, tick, tick), to pinstripes, wide stripes, & multi colour stripe culottes, to bold block colours (mustard yellow and vibrant stripes are two of my favourites).

There’s no culotte I won’t embrace, and I think there are three key reasons why you should be embracing the alternative to your classic trouser or your midi skirt too … read on if you need more persuading or a new pair yourself!

Most my wardrobe is compiled of garments that deliver on a multitude of needs! Work, weekends, events, parties & travel are all part of my life and I am not one of those people that can compartmentalise their wardrobe let alone their life. So for me, my clothes have to tick all my needs. And culottes are one such item that never fails to deliver. They’re fab for work with a tucked in shirt & classic pump, for weekends with a  slogan tee and a chic mule, or for post beach strolls with your favourite bikini.

THEY TICK BOTH COMFORT & STYLE

They’re not only suitable for every occasion, they’re comfortable for any occasion too! And for me comfort is key! They’re loose fit (Santa pants aren’t just for Christmas), the cropped cut is flattering on the leg (bare ankles are always a neat trick) and last but not least they cover you with modesty (so no Monroe moments nor the need for yoga-latties legs).

And if you needed one more excuse, this seasons take on the culotte is potentially the best yet. From Zara’s velvet and floral print versions to Tibi’s silk take on the look, to the emergence of denim culottes (swoon), there is a plenty of choice. Materials, colours, cuts and tailoring offer something for everyone.

And the best thing of all is the trend is clearly going no where. These Zara striped trousers were a purchase way back in 2014, i’ve holiday’d in them, worked in them, and weekend-ed in them too. They probably cost no more than £30 but three years on their still getting such good wear. Why? They’re a good fit, a statement trouser, relatively good quality for the price and make me feel pretty good too! Last weekend I teamed them with my new French Connection Mules & Karen Walker Harvest Sunnies (so obsessed with this brand) & my favourite whistles tee! Simple.

    I completely agree! Culottes are my favourite versatile piece – with trainers, heels, sandals etc. And I like how they hide that extra helping of dessert after dinner! Definitely a winner in my wardrobe! Your content is beyond incredible, as always. Such high quality.
