    SPRING FEELING

    . SPRING TRANSITION .

It’s finally starting to feel like Spring is coming and here to stay, waking up in the morning to sunshine and daylight is one of the best feelings and definitely one that by the end of Summer you forget how much you appreciate. Not only does the sun and blossoming flowers generally perk my mood up and make me want to get out and about to enjoy the day, they also make me want to dress more vibrantly & give my outfit a little more thought and effort (finally putting those jeans and jumpers to the back of the wardrobe).

Todays’ post is a bit more of an outfit tease than an outfit post, i’ll be sharing the full look with you all shortly, but for today and in preparation for the weekend I thought i’d do a bit more of a lifestyle post, not only showing you my look but also some pics from a stroll around Kew village last weekend. I love living in a little village in London, you get the perks working & spending fab evenings in the big city, but the balance of a quiet life at the weekend too. Kew village itself is tiny but beautiful (well worth a little visit if you’re spending time exploring London), but has the benefits of Kew Gardens which is heavenly in Summer, the Thames which is right on my door step and then of course Richmond and Richmond park a short cycle away. It’s a little London escape, right in the corner of London itself

    OVERCOAT

    . REISS 1971 SOUL COAT .

The overcoat has become a huge thing of late, gone are the days of wearing ones coat properly, we’re now channeling the oh so elegant style of draping ones coat over the shoulder. It’s a look that’s at one with the upper class or the public school elite but not something that had transferred down to the fashion masses until now. I personally am a big fan … when you’re rocking a look for a special event,  wearing something a little fancy or even a delicate dress that needs a bit of protection, the draping coat over the shoulder technique is rather handy. I also all subconsciously (or consciously) connotes being looked after by a gentleman, the draped coat after all is Prince charmings way to say he cares.
. Reiss 1971 Coat . Missguided Midi Skirt . ASOS Heels . Topshop Clutch .

Anyway, enough of fantasizing about Prince charming, in this instance I myself draped my coat over my own shoulder, no romance or falling in love involved. I wore this look a little while back, a chic midi skirt & simple grey marl tee … but perhaps the finishing touch which makes this look is my Reiss coat draped so beautifully over my shoulder. Not only does the coat go perfectly, but the boyfriend cut gives the look a little preppy, elegant & romantic finish.

What do you think of the draped coat trend, are you a fan?

    . KG SERPENT BOOTS .

It’s potentially a bit late in the day to be sharing these bad boys, as i’ve worn them every day for the last month and they’ve already been featured on my blog about 10 times … what can I say I love them. These KG booties were a little present to me, love me.
    . Kurt Geiger Serpent Boots £150 .
For about 3 weeks I went on a mad hunt for the Acne pointed chelsea boots (which I blogged about here) … sadly no matter how heard I searched they seemed to be sold out everywhere. After weeks of dedicated searching to no prevail, I decided to transfer my efforts away from the Acne boots and into finding the alternative perfect pair of pointed patent ankle boots. I’m normally a frivolous and spontaneous shopper but when it came to finding the perfect boot I turned into a mad perfectionist and nothing was quite right. Until I found these …
As soon as I saw them I fell in love, every time I caught them (browsing online or shopping) my heart skipped a little beat of excitement. The patent leather, the reptile texture and the pointed toe combined to make the most beautiful shoe. I’d already decided to buy them when I spotted the Elle 25% discount … it was like fate.
It’s clear I have developed a little obsession with this look as I’ve since purchased these and these. Oops.

    CLASHING STRIPES

    . PINSTRIPE BOYFRIEND COAT .

This weekend Jase and I were back in Bristol visiting his family, as my sister is at Bath university whenever we’re back West we always organise to spend the day together … this weekend we decided to spend the day pottering around Clifton Village, visiting all the boutiques and local deli’s to create a stella picnic which we ate laid down on the green by the suspension bridge. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll have already seen some snaps from the day – you can follow me here.

. Marks & Spencer Pinstripe Coat £129 . Kurt Geiger Serpent Boots £150 . Citizens Of Humanity Jeans £200 .

I decided to wear my new Marks & Spencer pinstripe coat teamed with jet black skinnies & my true loves (my KG serpent boots). The weather was warm enough to ditch my trusty knitwear and opt for a simple breton tee instead … cue the stripes clash!

This pinstripe coat is a new addition to my wardrobe which I ordered last week after developing a slight obsession over the trend. I follow a number of international fashion blogs who’s wardrobes and style keep me inspired daily, the masculine look seems to be increasingly popular with oversized coats, boyfriend blazers and cigarette trousers appearing left right and centre. I myself love the look and admire those who pull it off so effortlessly, i’ve tried  to rock the cigarette trouser trend but disappointingly just don’t look anywhere near as good. I’m blaming my hourglass figure, which quite naturally doesn’t fit with this masculine / boyfriend style … drainpipe legs & no curves are not something I can offer. Whilst some garments that fall in the masculine trend are clearly a total no go for my physique, a masculine coat is an easy win for any shape or size.

So i’m channeling my love for the masculine trend through oversized coats & ‘dad like’ pinstripe prints (Jase told me I looked like Tom Hanks in Big). This M&S coat incorporates both perfectly and takes me someway to achieving the look.

What do you think of my attempt of the androgynous / masculine trend? Are you a fan of boyfriend coats?

    EMPOWER ME

    . FREE PEOPLE .

After a bout of feeling a little down and tired last week, this weekend and the glorious sunshine which finally graced us, has perked up my mood considerably. More than that, it’s looking like my ski trip is finally going to get booked up, so a week away is looking like a dead cert (hoorah). In the spirit of feeling a little perky, I thought today i’d share a bit of a free flowing party look, to keep the weekend spirit alive.
    . Free People Dress £195 c/o . Pull & Bear Ankle Boots .
This dress was a little number from Free People which I featured a few weeks back in my post called ‘Inner Indie‘, in celebration of the warmer weather & sunshine I thought for todays outfit i’d ditch the coat and show off this dress in it’s fullest. I’ve not quite felt ready to drop the tights … baby steps! This dress is fab for a little glitzy evening look, it’s the perfect look for a cocktail night with the girls or a dinner date – my birthday is fast approaching (Easter) and so i’m already thinking this would make a fab outfit for a night out celebrating. I’ve got some other ideas above too, i love the monochrome Topshop dress!

Are you a fan of the glitzy 60’s inspired dresses? How would you style this number?
  • FLAWLESS FINISHING POWDER

    FLAWLESS FINISHING POWDER

    . PIXI POWDER .

It’s almost disconcerting how happy sunshine makes me, after months of overcast skies & so much grey that even black started to feel threatened, we finally finally finally have some clear blue skies & a cheeky little sun who’s head has finally risen after a winter hibernation taken a step too far. It’s a well know fact sunshine makes you happy but it’s almost amusing how instantaneous the response is. As I write this, laying in bed, curtains and windows pulled as wide as they possibly can, cuppa tea by my side, i’m smiling feeling a little more hopeful of that little R&R time I need and already dreaming up that perfect summer holiday full of escapism.

Anyway, enough of that wistful and whimsical dreaming, back to the hard facts of Sunday. Beauty post day (well not always, but i’m claiming it today). After my beauty post on Friday about my new Nars Heat Wave lippy (see here) I decided to do a little follow up post today featuring another of the fab goodies ASOS sent me from their beauty range. This time a Pixi finishing powder. After going to a Pixi event a year ago and getting some of their products in my goody bag, I started to build a little love for this brand, overtly feminine and cute, but products that actually create a fab look. I use their eyed shadow palette on a daily basis and so when I saw another one of their products in my delivery I was super excited.

Powder is a product that I only started using about 12-18 months ago when my friend taught me probably the most basic beauty tip of all (truly, I know nothing) … set your base with powder. Not only to keep it put but also to remove some shine. Seriously, if only i’d realised that powder was for this simple use before (and not for chavs wearing 6 inches of tango foundation) my makeup routine through my ‘experiential’ years (uni was when I learnt and tried out my beauty style) would have been revolutionised. Now I use finishing powder daily on top of my primer / tinted moisturiser, currently only a cheap transparent Rimmel one which is so widely recommended for daily use or Benefit Hello Flawless Powder for a more flawless evening look.

This Pixi powder compact is clearly super cute but also very handy for being on the move, the mirror and pull out compact powder applicator mean you have everything you need to touch up your makeup all day long (not that I do this). This has already won a spot in my ‘on the go’ beauty essentials kit.

Have you tried any Pixi products? What powder do you use to finish your makeup?

  • THE NEW COLLECTION

    THE NEW COLLECTION

    . #EBAYCOLLECTIONS .

Pinterest has been a true game changer for me, being able to pin all my favourite things into one place, create inspiring collections and browse beautiful photography at the tip of my finger is a real revelation. Gone are the days of me hoarding magazines and ripping out my favourite things to add to my huge wall collage of all things inspiration, now I have them carefully organised into ‘pin boards’ and no huge bills for 20 magazines a month (if you haven’t already found my pinterest boards, you can catch them here). Needless to say i’m a fan of the ‘pinning’ phenomena, so when Ebay let me in on a pretty cool collaboration to launch their new ‘Ebay Collections’ functionality, I was sold in right away.

#Ebaycollections is very much like pinterest, but on Ebay. So now you can not only just browse the site for all the goodies you’d love to bid on, but you can also create collections and pin your favourite items into boards created by you. I’ve already created a few of my own fashion related collections, pinning my favourite styles and items into boards, each board dedicated to a specific look or style.

I’ve created 12 boards so far for ranging from summer inspiration boards like ‘Summer Time Loving‘ and ‘Colour Pop‘, to more location based styles like ‘West Darling’, ‘East London‘ & ‘Parisian Chic‘. My sisters also been creating her own collections & you can spend hours browsing the vast depths of Ebay finding some serious gems, or vintage items.

Have you created any Ebay Collection boards yet? Which of my collections was your favourite?

    HEAT WAVE

    . NARS HEAT WAVE .

Earlier this week I received a little goody bag from my dear friends over at ASOS (and this time not a naughty purchase i’d made) … instead it was a little gift which made a surprise landing on my doorstep, perking up my week considerably. In celebration of ASOS’s (awesome) beauty range I got a special delivery featuring 3 picks from their range … I am going to assume handpicked as the items I received were exactly my kinda thang!
. NARS Semi -Matt Heat Wave c/o ASOS £18.50 .

I received this beautiful red Nars lippy in the colour ‘Heat Wave’, a cute Pixi powder set (so dainty and feminine) & a Too Faced mascara (all coming soon on my blog once i’ve tried and tested). But given it’s Friday and we’ll all be looking for a little day to night look upgrade ahead of this evenings Friday night celebrations, I thought this lippy could be a good source of makeup inspiration.
Adding a touch of bold lipstick is my number one tip / trick for transitioning you from work to evening (when there’s no luxury of going home to get ready – In London this is the situation on any evening event). A bold (preferably red) lipstick instantly vamps up your look, adds a touch of glamour and makes you feel a little more ‘worth it’. This new Nars lipstick is going to become a handbag essential for me, the colour is a lush pinky red mix (even a tad orangey) which is perfect for Spring.
What’s your tip ‘day to night’ tip to upgrade your look? Have you tried a Nars lipstick before, what’s your favourite shade?

    . PINK LEATHER .

I’m back in full swing today and sharing a little something new which I treated myself to a few weeks back. This cute leather skater dress was a Zara find and part of their new SS14 collection. The pastel pink and laser cut leather was a dream combination.

. Zara Leather Dress & Patent Moccasins . Topshop Clutch . Marks & Spencers Coat .

This dress is something I’ll end up living in come spring time, it’ll look fab styled with strappy sandals & a cute summer coat, but I didn’t want to wait for sunshine to be able to wear it so decided to give it a little winter twist. I styled the dress with my leather moccasin’s (also a Zara number), my new M&S boyfriend coat & the final touch was my leopard print clutch bag from Topshop which gave the look a bit of a pop.

What do you think of this look? How would you style this dress for winter?
