Here it is, my very first ever ‘tripod’ based outfit post. I usually either nag my dad, boyfriend, mum or sister into taking my outfit pics for me, or if it’s in the week and i’m juggling a 7am photo shoot pre work i’ll usually create a makeshift block of stuff to rest my camera on (oh yes, THAT professional ha) and try and get a few quick snaps. Anyway, my dad has leant me his tripod to try it out and see if it’s worth me buying myself one :)
. Topshop Denim Shirt . Zara White Jeans (old) . Topshop Leather Belt (old) . Deina Tan Boots .
So overall having a tripod is obviously really handy, you don’t have to rely on anyone to help you out and a tripod allows you to prance around in your own privacy without getting embarrassed or giggled at. It does take a little time to get the height / angles right for the pictures, but nothing a few test shots can’t solve. I’ve learnt from this that I probably need to have the tripod extended higher so it’s not looking up at me so much (note to self). When I get my own tripod I will probably set it up and leave it at the right height so that it’s ready to go for my outfit sessions. The setting up bit is actually what takes the most time really, so once you’ve got it right, it’s worth trying to keep it there.
The one thing I did find a little tricky with using a tripod is getting the focus and lighting right – obviously as you are running back and forth on timer, sometimes you don’t get the right focus (e.g. in some of my pics the background is the focus and so I’m a little blurry) – this is where a remote would probably come in a little handy. Especially if you could use it to set the focus – or is this way too optimistic?
Anyway, overall a tripod is definitely a help and I am going to treat myself to one for sure, it’s really handy for outfit posts in the week where time is a little short and when I don’t have someone to help me out with some pro shots. Given I invested in an SLR, I probably will make sure I get a fairly good one, one that’s sturdy and designed for DSLR’s as this way I know it’s safe and not likely to get blown away in our choppy British weather.
The only thing that using a tripod doesn’t give you, or at least I haven’t worked out how it could yet, is all the great angles, lighting and creativity you can get with photos taken by someone with a little eye for photography. So, sorry Dad, Jase, Mum, H and anyone else I tend to rope into photo taking, you’ll still be recruited on the weekend for your lovely photo skills ;)
If anyone has any tips for using a tripod for outfit posts please do share them, and if anyone uses a remote i’d love to know of any good brands you’d recommend?

Debating buying a tripod too – I have to bribe my sister usually which ends up in a severe lack of makeup after I realise the 50th ‘take a picture and you can take my lippy out tonight’ has left me with nothing! These photos look gorgeous! Definitely inspiring me to try a tripod out and how gorgeous is your outfit – love the light colours – perfect for the slightly warmer weather gracing us atm!

Great post and I definitely agree with you. I would add that if you buy a remote, you don’t need to run back and forth!

I’ve been using a tripod for a while now and I love it!! I used to use a little Gorilla pod which is quite handy because it can wrap around lots of things, but my boyfriend’s parents got me a proper one and I love it, so much easier!! Once you’re used to it, you can’t go without =D Since you’re using an SLR, do you use manual focus?? I find that’s easiest nowadays, but if you don’t like that, use auto focus and put something where you’re about to stand, like a bag or something, then stand right where you put it. And always set it to take multiple photos at once and just prance around, some will look ridiculous (and that’s funny!!) but some will actually work =D Hope my tips help, you probably already knew them though!!
Following you now by the way =D

Love your outfit! Looks so cute! Tripods are really great for taking outfit pictures, agree with about the setting up of them though! I use a remote for my camera and its so much easier, my one focuses too but I’m not sure if all of them do that. I think the brand might depend on the camera you use though, I literally just searched for a remote for my camera model on amazon it was only about £10 so it’s defo worth getting one! Hope this helps :) xx

I love your outfit! It definitely gave me a little inspiration for my denim top.
I’m getting a tripod to borrow from my boyfriend I hope it can learn to master it, but I agree tripods are great but they can’t give you that special creativity people can.

I’d recommend a remote, it focuses the camera for you unlike a timer which can be a bit hit and miss :) Love your denim shirt, I really want a fitted one xx

Love those jeans! I use a tripod and remote, its so much easier. Although today I am going to graduate to an outdoor location and get my bf to play photographer! To be honest I got my remote on ebay from china it was so cheap, as in a few quid and it works perfectly with my Canon 600d!
