Outfit

Channeling Your Mackintosh

January 5, 2013

Sometimes it’s very easy to split your wardrobe into summer and winter clothing and ignore items when it’s not their specified season. I hear of many people actually clearing their wardrobe of all summer clothes in winter & all winter clothes in summer – whilst this makes sense from a storage and space point of view, I think by doing so you can miss a trick or two in the styling steaks.
I personally never separate my wardrobes, although that’s mostly due to laziness I have to admit, but in not doing this I find you have far more flexibility in outfits available to you, and lots more opportunity to layer items up and get full use of your wardrobe. I’m not saying I do it everyday, but sometimes I’ll dig out an old summer favourite and try and give it a winter twist and yesterdays outfit was a prime example of this.
I wore this outfit to work yesterday and it actually features my favourite skirt from the summer which I featured here & here.

. Zara Embroidered Skirt . Mina Blouse . Monki Jumper . Zalando Chelsea Boots .
It’s a shame to let your favourite clothes go unworn, so it’s always a good idea to try and find other ways to style them. I was checking out Milie Macintosh’s blog in the week and saw that she too had this skirt but had styled it with chunky black ankle boots & a black knitted jumper. The outfit looked incredible and inspired me to try my skirt in a wintery look too.
Here’s what I came up with. I decided to wear my Monki cream jumper as it’s just a very easy wear item of clothing and adds a touch of ‘casual-ness’ to a look, as I was working I wanted to add a collar to make sure I didn’t look too underdressed and so wore my Mina blouse underneath. The tights are my winter go to item, they can make any dress or skirt suitable for Autumn & Winter plus keep you cosy – I always opt for very high denier tights to ensure they’re really dark and thick. The boots are my Zalando chelsea boots which I’m just living in this winter as they go perfectly with day dresses and jeans.
So there you go – mixing up my seasonal wardrobes & making use of my favourite summer items. What do you think of this outfit & how do you style your summer clothes for winter or winter clothes for summer?

You look amazing! And i agree, if you get rid of half your wardrobe cause it’s the wrong season, you can totally miss a trick! It’s so easy to give summery items a wintery look and vise versa! Love this post! xxx

I don’t have enough clothes to dress seasonally. It’s easy to update summer things for winter, with clever layering. I love this look, cosy and chic.
