Is it time blogging got back to reality?
If you read yesterdays post then you’ll know I’ve been thinking a lot about my blog, what I want the future to look like and where I want to take mediamarmalade.com in the future. What started as a daily outfit & style blog, in the last few years has merged more into a lifestyle site focussing on your (and my) journey to sartorial, career and life success. My blog has evolved with me, and thats natural, but perhaps in the last few years I’ve veered further from what this blog was in the first place … a little space to document my daily style and share my daily life.
The questionnaire I shared in yesterdays post (here if you haven’t already completed it) has already proved invaluable (so thank you SO much if you shared your thoughts), i’ve been checking it hourly and the responses have been absolutely incredible. Some seriously lovely comments which I couldn’t be more grateful for (thank you, genuinely), but also some really valuable constructive feedback especially around what you want to see more of on this blog. I’m going to do a full analysis after a few weeks, but so far, it’s clear that whilst tons of you love the careers & blogs features, a lot of you guys miss those day to day posts, the general chit chat I used to talk about, and the outfits I used to post so whimsically without all that much thought or planning.
The blog tips, careers & more polished feel won’t be going anywhere (I love to write them & they’re something I’m personally so interested in), but it got me thinking that perhaps it is time to share a little more of me and my life, a few more personal posts, and just a little more ‘reality’. And so … not one to waste time, I thought I’d start taking your feedback on board immediately, and so todays post is just that, a rather personal diary entry of today, Sunday. No agenda. No Tips. No ‘how to’. Just a straight up, raw, unplanned diary entry. I’d love to know what you think …
SHOP MY LOOK
Today’s been busy, not in a stressful way, but in a gloriously full way. After escaping London for a little home time before I jet off to Cyprus on Wednesday, I’ve spent the day catching up with friends, work and my blog, which in all honesty, is my ideal Sunday line up.
The day kicked off with the ultimate brunch in one of my favourite breakfast joint in winchester, Josies (formally Red White Black), their breakfast menu matches my favourite London hot spots (Granger & Co, Ahem), and the ice coffee ticks all my caffeine needs. I opted for a potato, feta and spinach cake with poached eggs and avocado (it’s not brunch without avo in my mind), while Kat opted for the seriously photogenic stacked pancakes … my god they looked good (and the perfect fuel for blog shooting).
Post brunch I popped along to Coffee Lab on St Thomas Street for some time out to do some work, it’s a coffee shop that only opened recently in Winchester, but one I make sure to visit every time I’m home. The staff & owner know me to say hello to now … they’re so used to my sister and I ordering coffee & shooting in the windows (in fact yesterdays post was actually shot there). I’ve got a lot going on at work at the moment, so despite a holiday in the pipeline, work is full steam ahead and I needed a few hours to prep for a rather important business meeting tomorrow.
This evening’s been spent catching up with another dear friend, spending time snuggling Ruby on the sofa and getting this little post live for you today. All in all a rather splendid Sunday I’d say … not least because it was also the first debut of this little Scotch & Soda skirt & Reiss panama hat which picked up in the summer sales (just in time for my holibobs).
How have you spent your sunday? I’d love to know what you thought of this slightly more ‘old school’ blog post? Are you a fan of my old school outfit posts & these more personal lifestyle edits? If you haven’t already had a chance to complete my questionnaire i’d absolutely love to hear your thoughts?

Love a little chit-chat!
I spent my Sunday being pretty spontaneous, starting with my longest workout of the week, a trip to town to get coffee, stroll, and hit up the farmer’s market, then some glorious hours in the kitchen baking and cooking while listening to podcasts!

I loved this post. I think that bringing back the “you” to your blog is something that every blogger has to do every now and again- its so easy to get hooked up in the business of it all. You’ve left a wonderful message and your blog is oh-so-beautiful. Keep up the good work.

Hi Melissa! I come across your blog from your comments on another blog and I love the way you blog about tips and this one in particular , a random blog post more about you and your day! Most of the time blogger life is pretty stressful (in a good way) to be able to come up with tips, ideas. photos, outfits, reviews and all that to share in order to keep our audience entertained (let along all the effort keeping other social media active and leaving comments on other blogs!) So, I really appreciate that you feel comfortable with sharing something totally not ‘planned’ and share what you are thinking or planning in the future with the reader, which is really great!
I know I start rambling again but just wanna drop you a note that it is a amazing blog with amazing content! Keep it up! I’ll be sure to follow whatever approach you are going after.

I would really love to see more “life” posts from you! The small snippets you have shared of your life have been lovely to read, I also think it’s important to put the “you” back into blogging; after all, without lifestyle/personal posts, there would be no blogs to build! I have to say though i do love your advice posts – one of the bloggers who gives genuinely useful advice!

Great post . Blogging does evolve with oneself.. and then we need to decide the direction of the blog.

It is such a good idea to do this sort of survey- I did when I first rebranded our blog and it helped a lot, I could probably do with making one up again.
