A classic British summer melt down …
My god it is HOT. Summer has officially arrived (we’re hitting 32 degrees today), and as usual with UK summers, the city and it’s dear residents have hit meltdown mode (literally and physically I might add). Summer is such a long awaited occasion in the UK, but inevitably when it arrives we’re thrown into utter despair and left utterly confused with how to cope with life. Commutes come to a halt, and if you do make it on a train, god help you because it’s like an hour long bikram yoga session, concentration evaporates with the sweat leaving your body, and dressing for the occasion … well lord help us. We’re not used to summer in the UK which means two things for heat wave dressing in the UK, you’re left over dressed trying to somehow make your usual wardrobe work in the sweltering hear, or you’re left significantly underdressed, resorting to those beach dresses you packed away at the end of your holiday last year. Either way, you’re not #winning.
SHOP WHAT I’M WEARING
I personally cannot claim I have mastered the summer heat wave dressing entirely (I mean Monday I felt like a fat sweaty version of cat woman in my skin tight sweaty Whistles trousers – serious error), however what I have done is shopped the block and found a few killer pieces that help juggle both a British heat wave (or Summer in any other country) and work, meetings or simply a professional occasion (which by the way you can shop here).
Without further ado though, let me introduce you to a personal favourite, the culotte jumpsuit; light weight, modest yet summer appropriate, an absolute bargain and most importantly work ready. I picked this jumpsuit up ahead of my work trip to Cannes last month in both black and khaki (you may have spotted the khaki version here already & i’m absolutely loving this alternative version), I’m not a frequenter of New Look normally but whilst browsing ASOS I couldn’t believe how killer their summer collection was, but more than that how work suitable a lot of the edit was too. Anyway, the jumpsuit; utterly delighted by the bargain & work ready style, these jumpsuits have become an absolute (heat wave & work wear) go to in my wardrobe the last few weeks.
The look fab styled up or down (i’ve taken the liberty to showcase both styles here today), so great for a smart office look, or a more casual attire for a day of meetings and errands. I teamed my looks with burgundy studded sandals (flat & heeled) & opted for some designer accessories to give the ensemble a chic & more expensive touch (always a good touch when you’ve bought such a bargain high street look).
Best of all, the jumpsuit works perfectly for a Summer Holiday look too … which is just the while because this time tomorrow i’ll have escaped the city and will be laying on a beach somewhere in Cyprus, praising the lord that all I need to wear in the heat is a bikini (not to rub it in or anything).
How are you doing on the dressing for a heat wave front? Have you got any go to looks you’re relying on?
