A Fail Safe Way To Style Metallic

My summer style is predictable, I tend to revert to two trusted looks and mix and match my pieces accordingly to keep things looking and feeling fresh each day! This summer you’ll find me in clinched waist, boho / loose fit maxi dresses (i’ve just ordered this one which I am literally obsessed with) or midi skirts & tees. Both looks are delivering well for me right now, not too clingy, work and play suitable, comfortable in the heat, and easily styled for any occasion!

When it comes to the latter, the midi skirt & tee combo, it’s fair to say pleated and metallic skirts are my style of fancy!

The collection is definitely building, but as is always the case with these things, it’s often the golden oldies which deliver time and time again, and this metallic skirt from Zara is one such item which is still going strong even after nearly three years (do you remember this look?).

For me, the easiest way to style metallic is in a statement garment. It could be a blouse, a bag, or my personal preference a midi skirt. Metallic midi skirts are a popular look this season making them easily accessible (the options on the high street are vast) and affordable (Zara has a great selection at a really friendly price).

When it comes to styling, it’s best to keep things simple!

For me a white tee or camisole is all the skirt needs, and teamed with a whole host of footwear dependent on the occasion. Converse for weekend off duty looks, a heeled shoe like todays look for those special occasions (I rocked this outfit for a lovely lunch at The Pig in bath, I wanted something special enough for the occasion but still comfy and chic), or finally with a simple sandal for summer office days! When it comes to styling metallic, there are very simple rules of engagement which will ensure you never go wrong: Keep it statement, style with basic colours (White, black, Navy), play with tailoring and shapes (a pleated midi suits the metallic tone a lot, but a fitted body con less so).
