Mastering Winter Work Wear With My Top Style Hacks
It’s fair to say feeling inspired to dress well gets slightly more challenging in the winter, after all when you’re tackling zero degrees everyday it’s hard to think much beyond your coat and winter boots. It’s easier than ever to opt for those wardrobe basics, without giving your look those special touches that you might spend more time perfecting the rest of the year.
But don’t give up dear friends, it’s still possible to be stylish and warm during the winter months, it just takes a few little touches and a bit of imagination.
I’ve been making a concerted effort this winter not to revert to my standard jeans & jumper combinations, reserving these for a ‘once a week’ debut. It takes a little effort and commitment, but winter wear doesn’t have to be dull or repetitive. I have three little style hacks to help you give your winter work wear wardrobe a little spruce up!
THREE WINTER WORK WEAR STYLE HACKS
Add a pop of colour
It’s easy to revert to blacks, greys and creams during the winter months, and whilst these colours can pack a punchy look, a whole wardrobe of neautrals can feel a little dull. My favourite winter looks always have a pop of colour to them, whether that’s a bright red knitted jumper teamed with a pair of black skinnies & heels, a colourful boot or pump to spruce up your look, some colourful accessories to transform your look a little (I love these colourful backpacks), or best of all a colour poppin’ coat to really make a look (I love this one from Jigsaw’s new collection. Colour can often feel bold and a little daunting, but you’ll be surprised how good it’ll make you feel and how much it transforms an otherwise neutral basic winter look.
Pack a Punch With Shoes
Yes you want to wear slippers all day in the winter. I know the struggle. But it’s incredible how much a shoe can upgrade a look, whether its from day to night or simply transforming a basic work look to something a little more sophisticated.
My shoe collection comes into it’s own in the winter and I find myself relying on three key pieces of footwear, a quality loafer (these Russell & Bromley burgundy loafers are a firm favourite), a chic black boot (the pointier the better for me & if you really want to pack a punch opt for a killer knee high boot like I did here) and of course a statement heel to steel the show (I have a few I swap between, but I love these new season green heel boots which I featured here).
Bonus Tip: Walk to work in cosy uggs & swap into your killer heels when you get to the office. It makes ALL the difference.
Mix Up Your Wardrobe Staples
When it’s cold outside wrapping up warm is essential, and often the first point of call is your comfiest jeans and warmest jumper right? There’s nothing wrong with that at all, but if it becomes your go to everyday it can feel a little dull and samey. That’s where picking some ‘alternatives’ to your favourite combo comes in handy.
For me these alternatives are things like switching jeans for cigarette trousers, swapping my standard knitted jumper for a silk blouse and sophisticated neckerchief (which also doubles up as a super cosy scarf too), mixing a chic skirt and thick tights into the mix every now and then (I love this one), throwing in a jumper dress for good measure (almost as good as PJ’s I assure you) and finally, mixing and matching my outerwear to keep it fresh.

. JIGSAW COAT (NEW SEASON / NEW SEASON) . JIGSAW SILK BLOUSE (ALTERNATIVE) . BANANA REPUBLIC TROUSERS . BANANA REPUBLIC SILK NECKERCHIEF (ALTERNATIVE) . RUSSELL & BROMLEY LOAFERS . CHLOE HAYLEY BAG .
Simply mixing up your wardrobe staples, trying a few fresh combinations and keeping things versatile helps. When it comes to investing in winter pieces, opt for pieces that can be styled within multiple looks, offer versatility and importantly add a little statement punch to your winter wardrobe. I’ve shared a few of my favourite winter work wear pieces above to inspire you a little, plus you can shop my look too.
What are you winter work wear style hacks? Do you have any tricks to keep stylish and warm?

I absolutely adore everything you’ve worn in this post, but the coat and loafers are absolutely to-die-for. It can be so easy to get into a winter rut, but you’ve totally beaten it! Thanks for sharing!

love love the Bordeaux and blush mixed together! It’s a struggle not to only wear dull hues so I try and mix in brights – like today a bright yellow sweater with a gray tweed skirt.

Thank you for the tips! Although I’m not working at the moment I still find myself reaching towards the same jeans and jumpers over and over again during winter months. But this post definitely inspired me to try something new and experiment at least a little bit xx

My top tip is always wearing colour. I’m always surprised by how most people I know and see struggle with colour. For me it’s absolutely the best way to dress for the colder months. I can’t wear an all neutral outfit, it’s not the easy option for me and it must have colour or I feel dull. My favourite are the warm colours and they go a long way in making me think that I’m warmer than I am just by wearing them
