A JOURNEY TO SUCCESS …
When I started my blog way back when I never dreamed it would grow, evolve and become what it is today. What was originally a little online diary packed with amateur shots of my daily outfits, soon became a daily fashion blog, but something that in time has evolved into so so so much more. These days my blog and my ambition for my blog is to be a hub jam packed with motivational and inspirational career, blogging and style tips. A place where girls like me can come to learn, get informed, feel inspired and generally get motivated to achieve the things in life they want to. Whether that’s ideas to help you create a seasonal wardrobe, inspiration for an upcoming trip to New York City, or even tips to help you start your own business or take your blog to the next level. These days my blog is something far more than I ever imagined it would be, but if I’m honest I’m so happy that it is, because this blog is truly me and it incorporates everything I am passionate about.
I am career driven and I do have a successful career outside my full time blog which I work bloody hard for. I love blogging full time & I want success in this space as well as my life and career generally. I love to travel, explore new cities and cultures, it goes without saying that I love to shop. I adore photography and want to share beautiful imagery that you will enjoy or feel inspired by. But most of all I want to feel inspired by what I write and share here, and I want what I write in turn to inspire, inform or motivate you too. Everything I share on my blog is what I am truly passionate about and this strive for ‘life’ success is something I am constantly working towards in my own personal life.
But as you will know if you’ve read my blog for a while, I believe ‘success’ is a tricky old word … success can be so vague, undefined and subjective and so in my opinion defining your own meaning of success (your life KPI’s if you will) is incredibly important. Your success should be based on your goals, your journey and your achievements. Whilst I truly believe you cannot compare your success or your journey to that of others, I do believe there’s things we can learn from other people we believe are a ‘success’ in their own ways (whether that’s your boss, your mum, or another blogger for example).
And that is what today’s all about, the things we can learn from successful women (and men – equality n all that) out there, to help define and guide our own journey to success (whatever success is to you).
5 TRAITS OF A SUCCESSFUL CAREER WOMEN, YOU CAN LEARN TODAY
They have Self Belief
One thing is certain, pretty much every successful person I can think of comes across as someone who genuinely believes in themselves, their cause or their work. To succeed in life you need to have believe in yourself. The biggest barrier in reality is yourself, your own self-doubt and your own lack of confidence. Once you start to believe your potential, the opportunities are infinite. Even if you suffer from imposter syndrome for a little while, over time you’ll prove your ability.
They raise others up
Successful people don’t trample their way to the top, they bring other people up with them. Your success is as much dependent on the people around you supporting and championing you, as it is about you believing in yourself. If you get to the top but have a whole business that hates you, then you’re not going to succeed in that role, because people won’t want to work for you. It’s quite simple but it’s easy to forget if you focus too much on your self. Don’t forget to raise others around you too.
They have balance
Successful people understand the importance of balance in their life. They understand how happiness boosts motivation, how down time increases inspiration and how rest can drive productivity. They understand that success doesn’t mean sacrificing one element of your life to boost another. Successful people do not work 20 hours a day (all the time, don’t get me wrong, there’s certainly times where long hours and sacrifice does come into play, but the point is it’s not everyday of every month of every year), they work hard, they work productively, and importantly they work efficiently. Happy people inspire happiness … and negativity doesn’t ever really prevail.
They are not afraid to ask
Successful people don’t just expect things to be delivered on a plate for them. They work hard to define what they want, set out parameters to get there, and constantly monitor and evolve to get there. What’s important to know is that successful people ASK. They ask to be reviewed for that promotion, they ask to be considered for that opportunity, and they ask to get what they want. People aren’t mind readers, and people are busy, if you want something you need to ask (and have a good, strong rationale and back up as to why you’re the right person for whatever it is you’re asking for). Be bold.
They’ve defined their own idea of success
This goes back to my first point, successful people aren’t just working aimlessly to be labelled a ‘success’, no no no. Successful people are working towards something, a goal, and usually not just one. Successful people have their own idea of what success is to them, not just in their career, but their life too (Their life KPI’s), and they work their butt off to achieve each of their goals, one step at a time. A great example is that an executive might dream one day of being SEO, but to achieve that success, they’ll think up that 10 year career path and the achievements required to get there. It’s important to dream big, but it’s more important to think small (what are the small steps that’ll help you ladder to that big goal).
