HOW TO PICK YOURSELF UP & MOVE ON AFTER FAILURE
I talk a lot about success on my blog these days, whether that’s achieving blog success, career success or simply life success. But one things certain, nobody’s journey to success is ever perfect, we all encounter dips and failures along the way, what’s important is picking yourself up after a failure and productively moving forward. And so that’s where today’s post comes into play … 5 easy tips to help you pick yourself up and move on after you’ve experienced a failure. No matter how big or small the situation is, there’s nothing a little pragmatism can’t help but cure.
5 TIPS TO HELP YOU MOVE ON FROM FAILURES PRODUCTIVELY
#1 Accept the situation
First things first, stop beating yourself up about the situation, accept what’s happened and focus your energy on moving forward. There’s no benefit or use wasting time, effort and energy dwelling on your negative thoughts or debating and beating yourself up about what’s happened in the past. What’s important is what you do next and how you move on …

#2 What can you learn
A good starting point is understanding what the issues were. Not in a negative self depreciating way, in a rationale and functional way. Perhaps you didn’t prepare enough, perhaps you were late, or perhaps the brief wasn’t clear. Whatever the situation & the ‘failures’ you’ve encountered, understanding the main issues that caused the ‘failure’ to occur will help you rectify things moving forward. Try and clear your head of emotion and think pragmatically, what can you learn, how can you improve … It’s important to turn the negative situation into a positive action moving forward.

#3 Don’t undermine the positives
Even a failure can still have some positives, so as much as you review and analyse the issues that occurred, don’t forget to accept and praise the positives too. These are just as important in helping you move forward productively and overcoming a failure. More than that, don’t underestimate the benefit of positively re-framing things. For one, this will help shift your mind back into a positive place as opposed to feeling negative, down or upset. For example, you didn’t get the job you interviewed for, but actually you learnt a lot from the experience, gained interview practice and now have a clearer idea about what it is you would like to go for next. Focus on the silver lining.

#4 Forget about what other people think
One reason we get so emotionally upset when we encounter failure is because we care about what other people think about us, how we are perceived and how society views us. Forget that. Rule 101 of living a happy and successful life is to stop comparing yourself to others and stop worrying what other people think about you. Going back to my favourite #NotSorry theory, if you want to live an enlightened life, then you need to stop giving a fuck about what other people think (that doesn’t mean being an ass mind you).

#5 Get back on that horse
And my biggest tip of all, get back on that horse. Don’t be afraid to try again, in fact the sooner you do, the better. Whether it’s getting another job interview, retaking your driving test, putting your hand up for another pitch or closing down your business & restarting a new venture, whatever it is, go again. Accept, learn, try again. Success doesn’t come through luck, it comes through hard work and perseverance, and failure on that journey is inevitable … it’s what you do about it that matters!
