THE MAGPIE
. LASHES OF LONDON EMBELLISHMENT .
Lately i’ve become increasingly obsessed with the little details, whether that be accessories transforming an outfit (like in yesterdays outfit post) or more embellishment and detailing on garments which give it that special touch.. Lashes of London Dress £90 c/o . Mulberry Clutch .I recently received this stunning Lashes of London dress and instantly fell in love with the stunning embellishment, I have a full outfit feature coming soon so make sure you stay tuned.I’m a big fan of garments with sequin or embellished details (particularly skirts and dresses) and if you’ve been a reader of mediamarmalade for a while you’ll no doubt remember a few such items I already have in my collection and have featured on here. French Connection is one of my favourite places to buy party dresses, not only do they fit me perfectly but they also have the most stunning well crafted designs with beautiful embellishing. They never fail to produce a dress which ticks all my boxes. I’ve also recently discovered Coast for dresses too, it’s not somewhere I shop often for clothes, but their party dress collection is beautiful and there are so many gorgeous pieces. The Amalia dress & Ginerva dress from the new collection are real favourites of mine, and dresses which would never fade in and out of fashion. The beauty of dresses like these are that they’re classic in style, but don’t feel ‘dull’ because they’re so beautifully decorated, making them super sophisticated and chic. -
SUBLIME
. FEMININE LEATHER .
Every now and then I team together some understated wardrobe staples with minimal thought & seem to create a look that I then just fall utterly in love with. Each item transforming the combined items into a fab outfit. This doesn’t happen everyday sadly, and naturally never when I actually try or need to create a really great outfit. This look is something I pulled together last weekend for a low key day pottering around Richmond. My leather trousers are a fail safe bottom half for me, on those days when I don’t fancy wearing a fancy skirt or feminine dress I often opt for my leather trousers. They feel slightly dressier than jeans but still offer the comfort and lack of effort i’m looking for. An oversized jumper is my natural companion for leather trousers, I love how a big knit can downplay any garment into something far more laid back than it might otherwise be. This Monki jumper is always my go to jumper when I’m looking for comfort & a laid back style. But I have to say it’s the bold colour poppin’ accessories that make this outfit in my opinion. My Reiss pink coat & my Topshop fur bag seem to transform this outfit into something I usually admire other fashion bloggers wearing (that effortless parisian style of dressing). There’s definitely something in the understated outfit with overstated accessories. It’s a new kinda thing for me, but I have to say I like it.What do you think of this look & the contrast between the simple outfit with bold accessories? -
THE EXPLORERS
. HAMPSTEAD .
As I mentioned on my blog after the New Year, Jase and I have made a little pact to explore more of London venture away from our favourite places and explore the other parts of London we’ve not yet been too. Last weekend this saw us travel to Hampstead, a London village which I quite literally fell in love with & could happily live if I ever moved away from South West London. So this post is dedicated to our trip & is a collection of my favourite snaps from the day.
We took the train from Kew Gardens straight to Hampstead Heath which for London was a super speedy journey (20 minutes door to door on the over ground), we then strolled around the outskirts of the park and made our way to Hampstead village … a beautiful, old London style ‘village’ full of boutique shops, second hand designer stores, butchers, bakers & tons of lovely looking cafes. We spent a good 4 or so hours browsing the stores and exploring all the little lanes & pathways each full of another set of gorgeous cute stores. We bought some more tea pigs tea bags from the local butchers come deli, a late Saturday brunch from Ginger & White (amazing) and some cute home bits from Oliver Bonas. It was a fab day, we left feeling totally upbeat & encouraged to explore more of what our city has to offer.Inspired from our trip last weekend, yesterday we ventured to East London to see what it had to offer … sadly after an hour and a half on the partly closed tubes, a 40 minute walk around the arse end of nowhere trying to find Victoria Park Village & Broadway market, little findings in terms of cafes & stores and the most bizarre microclimate storm, we decided to call it a day and make the ridiculous venture home. We felt sadly defeated, a bit gutted that our trip was an all round fail (and I have my sister up to stay so we planned to make a real outing of it) & slightly less favoured to the East of the city. It may have been a dodgy day to go, a disadvantage that travelling from West to East is such a pain, or just that we had such high hopes from our hugely successful trip the weekend before. Regardless … exploring isn’y all about finding the magical places like Hampstead, but we’ll keep on with our weekend trips, but maybe next time do a little more research first.Have you been to Hampstead? What did you think? Where are your favourite places to visit in London? -
REMINISCING
. HAMPSTEAD GIRL . ROUGE ROUGE ROUGE . A HEALTHY BRUNCH . A REAL CONTRAST .Todays post is a little different to normal as it’s a round up feature, of all the things I’ve blogged about over the last few weeks. I think it’s sometimes nice to look back and reflect on things, and appreciate all the things that have been going on. Being a daily blogger I sometimes feel my posts can get lost or missed, and so today I thought i’d just recap on all that’s been going down on mediamarmalade on the last few weeks (not every post, but some of my favourites in January) … varying from style, to food to beauty. Whilst this blog is predominantly a style blog, I do like to fatten it up with more lifestyle focussed features which document my daily life. Here’s some of my other recent January posts …. TO ME LOVE ME . THE EDIT . THE CITY BLOCK . LEATHER MOCCASINS .There’s tons of ways to keep up to date with my daily posts … click on any of the below links for an easy way to follow mediamarmalade if you don’t already. -
A REAL CONTRAST
. LEATHER SHIFT .
I wasn’t sure what to blog about today – an outfit, a beauty review or a bit of a lifestyle post but I thought what the hell lets do another outfit post. This time featuring a bit of a dressy number, perfect for setting us up for the weekend don’t you think?. Topshop Leather Shift Dress £60 . Office Boots £85 . Accessorize Fedora £29 . Missguided Fur Coat £60 .This leather shift dress is a real favourite of mine, I actually wore it yesterday to work with my leather moccasin’s & my chocolate brown fur coat (a slightly more day time styling versus this look here). We had a few work bevies last night so this dress was perfect for transitioning my outfit from office chic to cocktail bar suitable. I also added a lot of red lippy last night to finish off the look. The dress is a great one for wearing out and can be styled up to look quite glam too, like I did in this outfit back around New Years. I added my fedora & cropped fur jacket which instantly styled it up for a more evening look.I’m so excited for the weekend now, it’s been a mad and extremely stressful January so far at work, so each week i’m longing for a weekend break to relax & unwind. This weekend my sister is travelling down from Bath to stay with me (I can’t wait) – we’ve got a fun weekend planned and on Saturday jase and I will be hosting a bit of a dinner and movie night, as his sister & her boyfriend will be joining us too.
What do you think of this black leather shift dress? Do you have favourite items of clothes that work for any occasion? What’s your plans this weekend? -
HAMPSTEAD GIRL
. A WEEKEND OUTFIT .
Jase and I have made a pact for 2014 that we’re going to spend more time at the weekends in London and exploring all the villages this city has to offer. I’ve always lived in West London and often find myself sticking to this neck of the woods when heading out at the weekend, but since Jase got the ‘london villages’ book for Christmas we’re gradually ticking off everything there is to offer. Last weekend we headed to Hampstead for the weekend … I fell in love.. James Jeans Skinny Jeans . Topshop White Knit Jumper & Animal Print Bag . Zara Patent Leather Moccasin .I have to say, Hampstead is utterly divine, old brick houses, cute cafes, boutique clothing stores & traditional home owned butchers and bakers. It’s my idea of heaven. The west London village I live in is quite similar, so I can definitely say if I had to move anywhere else in London it was absolutely be Hampstead. I thoroughly recommend you go and visit the village & I’ll be posting a more lifestyle focussed post on Saturday with my pics from the week end. But for today I thought I’d share my outfit from the day …It’s a little nippy in London so my outfit was practical but still featuring some of my favourite items. I teamed a simple skinny jean & oversized knit jumper duo with my new shearling lined fur gilet & my animal print fur bag, i’ve featured these on my blog quite a lot recently but they truly have become winter favourites. The finishing touch to the look are my patent leather moccasin’s which I blogged about a few days back. These have fast become a chic shoe fave of mine & I can’t get enough of them. I think they smarten up any look & have a pretty dapper vibe about them. What do you think of my new shoes & how I styled the look? Are you a fan of exploring new towns in your local area – i’d love to hear all your tips for places to go and see. -
BOWERS & WILKINS
. PROJECT TAKE 10 .
As I mentioned at the weekend, i’ve made a little pact with myself to get back into my music & that’s largely been triggered by the latest Project Take 10 post which is a collaboration with Bowers & Wilkins. For our January feature each of us got to pick one of the new P3 headphones to style up for the feature, I opted for these amazing white ones, and since receiving them last week I’ve literally not stopped using them. They’re such amazing quality you can’t help but want to listen to more music on them. I’ve also now got one very jealous boyfriend, because my headphones are now better than his.. Missguided Leather Skirt . ASOS Grey Marl Tee . Daniel Wellington Watch . Bowers & Wilkins P3 Headphones .The P3 range of headphones come in a variety of different colours, but the white ones instantly stole my heart. I’m really loving pale, pastel shades right now and these headphones compliment them perfectly. I’ve now updated my iPhone music so that every morning on my commute to work I can drown out the tube hustle & bustle and escape away into my music. I’ve also been using these in work & everyone’s very impressed with the quality of them.I styled them up at the weekend with my new pastel pink leather skirt which I ordered from Missguided a week or two ago. I combined the pencil skirt with my grey marl tee, DW watch & my Diorirfic lipstick. Check out how the other Take 10 Girls styled theirs below.Have you used Bowers & Wilkins headphones, what do you think of these white P3 ones I chose? -
PERFECT CAT EYES
. EYEKO .
Todays post is a little later in the day than normal, I do apologise. It’s been one of those weeks already. Nonetheless today I wanted to share some new beauty treats of mind, a Christmas present from my Nana & Grandpa (amazing right, they always get me such amazing makeup bits which I just love) and a brand I’ve heard so much about but never actually tried.
. Eyeko Lengthening Skinny Brush Mascara . Eyeko Skinny Liquid Eyeliner .The two products I got were the Eyeko skinny Brush mascara & Eyeko the skinny liquid eyeliner. Both products I wear daily and would actually call my ‘essentials’ – especially mascara which I cannot live without. Both these Eyeko products i’ve heard so many great things about so I really cannot wait to get using them daily. In line with my new eye makeup tools i’ve decided its about time I also learnt to perfect the cat eye flick. I often attempt this look but frequently end up with slightly mismatching lines or a bit of a thick line opposed to a gorgeous elegant flick. These new beauty tools will definitely help me perfect this lookAre you a fan of Eyeko, what products have you tried? I’d love to hear your tips for getting the perfect cat eye flick too? -
A TOUCH OF ‘OFFICE’ PINK
. SECOND FEMALE .
It’s officially blue Monday, the worst day of the year apparently. I have to say with my work situation & a dodgy train journey this morning, blue Monday is certainly set to live up to all it’s expectations. One way to make blue Monday a little less blue is by adding a drop of colour into your work uniform. Colour always helps boost your mood & power dressing subconsciously helps you believe you can take on anything.. Second Female Dress . Reiss Coat £295 (now in sale) . Topshop Patent Shoes £50.This outfit is a perfect solution to the dreaded Monday … a work outfit (or just a chic evening look) that gives your mood a little oomph and brings a little colour into your life. There are some days in the office where your work colleague plan on holding an event for a charity, which initially means every member of staff is issued an item to wear to promote the company. Promotional Clothing is what the boss calls it. The plus side of this is that you don’t need to spend as much time thinking of an outfit idea if you know this is what you’ll be wearing all day. And if everyone is wearing it, it isn’t too bad. When it comes to my style though, yy work style is the same as my everyday style, I don’t have a specific work uniform but I do always love to wear a chic dress or pencil skirt look if I have a big meeting that day. I have quite a large selection of work suitable dresses, this Second Female one is a new addition to my wardrobe & a an easy way to wear leather to work.
I’m always searching for dresses that can double up for work and evening wear & i think Hobbs have a beautiful collection of office dresses. They’ve got a some seriously chic well tailored dresses which are equally as smart for work as they are on trend for a cute party look. The Heba dress is one of my favourite LBD’s Hobbs sells and is the perfect work wear / evening chic dress. Having referenced the dresses, its the Hobbs boots that really steal my heart … i’m currently developing a mild obsession over their ankle boots. My wishlist is currently resting on a worrying 3 ankle boots (The Harper, The Otto & The Dylan). Swoon. What’s your workwear style? Do you have a typical work & weekend wardrobe or are you more like me?
