    . FOOD. WATER. DENIM .

We all know denim is an essential part of every humans wardrobe, whether it’s a classic pair of skinny jeans, some boyfriend denim, the ultimate denim jacket, the SS15 button down mini, or even a denim dress … denim is at the heart of many of our wardrobes. And with good reason! It’s one of those timeless trends that will never go out of fashion, and is the ultimate reinventor. This season it’s all about mom jeans, denim skirts & the AC x AG inspired a line denim dress. I’m all for it, and for me, it’s the crux of effortless dressing (which i’m always striving to achieve).

This denim dress has been one of my favourite purchases this summer, the perfect AC x AG dupe, super affordable, brilliant fitting & just such an easy wear. I teamed the dress with my converse last weekend for a casual day out in Winchester, little Ruby was the ultimate accessory though of course!

    . SIMPLE, EVERYDAY STYLE .

Whilst I love the opportunity to dress up on my blog, and of course have the excuse to buy a few more daring items than I might otherwise, I do still just love the simplicity of everyday style. A new trend, a chic dress & a killer pair of heels all have their moments, but day to day it’s the laid back simple styles that really encapsulates my wardrobe.

This kinda look is my typical style, when i’m out and about meeting friends or spending the day with Jase pottering around central. I’m a huge fan of the suede skirt and this button down topshop one is the perfect fit & everyday style, as you well know the slogan tee is now a staple for me, and works perfect with the suede.

Aside from a day dressed up to the nines for a friends wedding this weekend, i’ll be spending the rest of the bank holiday relaxing, unwinding & dressing down in my weekend staples!

What are your bank holiday plans & how would you describe your daily style?

  • 5 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU NEED A HAPPINESS BOOST

5 THINGS TO DO WHEN YOU NEED A HAPPINESS BOOST

Mediamarmalade Denim Playsuit And Catarzi Fedora

. HOW TO BE HAPPY: DECIDE EVERY MORNING  YOU ARE IN A GOOD MOOD .

Happiness is something I either seem to have in abundance, or find myself in that odd moment longing for considerably. With a busy life & demanding careers, there are always times where are own happiness gets put to bed for a few days or weeks, and life & works demands take priority. But actually even within those periods, it’s important to look after yourself and ensure your happiness & positivity are there, even if they’re not bubbling over the surface.

Today I thought i’d share 5 little things that make me really happy, and that I always try and prioritise when I need a happiness boost … hopefully they’ll provide you with a little inspiration too!

    #1 ESCAPE TO THE SEASIDE

For me, there’s nothing like the seaside to instantly relax me and turn my mood around, there’s something so tranquil yet freeing about the sea … it’s full of opportunity and happy memories. When I need a little escapism from the hustle and demands of city life, the seaside is often where my heart wants to go. I have some favourite beaches close to home Mudeford & of course Bournemouth, but I also love venturing a little further afield for a day out – Brighton, Lyme Regis & Cornwall are all favourites.

#2 HAVE SOMETHING TO LOOK FORWARD TO

I have to have ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ in my periods of stress and tension … without them I feel lost, down & generally just lacking in hope! For me booking that holiday you’ve been dreaming of, or planning a little fun in your life is a really easy way of boosting my happiness without having to add any more pressures into the ‘now’. I actually just booked a trip back to NYC for Christmas this year, so right now the excitement for that is giving me something to look forward to. The light at the end of the tunnel.

    #3 LOVED ONES & LAUGHTER

Whilst busy times often means you lock yourself away for days, weeks and months on end, actually its taking a break to be with your friends, family & loved ones which really brings you back to you. For me spending time with Jase, my family & my friends, and of course my little puppy Ruby is a sure way to get me smiling & feeling happy.

    #4 THOSE HOMELY TREATS

If there’s ever an excuse for a cup of tea, a bar of chocolate and some classic movies, it’s when you’re feeling down. A hot fire, a snuggly blanket and a good magazine are all I need to change my mood after work … it’s an easy way to destress, to make you feel happy & to generally relax you. Spend some time (when you can) giving yourself a little TLC, you’ll find it boosts your happiness & mood immediately.

    #5 BLOGGING (READ: ESCAPISM)

Escapism is the best sometimes … whether it’s a good book, a movie, a cracking playlist or simply a little time spent blogging, escaping from your day to day pressures for an hour or so, to do something you genuinely love is a really good idea when you’re needing a little positivity boost.

People often ask me how I manage to blog full time and work full time … but I think it’s that passion I have for blogging (of course) but also how much of an escape it is for me too. I absolutely love writing content, shooting posts, designing my blog, and it provides the perfect escape from the day to day of my job! Not even running my own blog, but reading your blogs too, it’s one of my favourite ways to unwind & definitely makes me happy!

“Wake up early. Drink coffee. Work hard. Be ambitious. Keep your priorities straight, your mind right and your head up. Do well, live well and dress really well. Do what you love, love what you do. It is time to start living.”

What boosts your happiness? Do you have any ‘go to’ things that you know will instantly boost your mood?

. THE FANCY CROPPED JUMPSUIT .

I’ve always been a big fan of the playsuit, but it’s only really been in the last year or so that i’ve been open to the idea of the jumpsuit. There’s something about that all in one look that scared me off for a little while … whether it was the connotations of childhood, or ski racing, either way the all in one romper trend did take me a little while to embrace. Now however, i’m totally on board, and in fact, not just with the a-typical jumpsuit, i’ve pushed my boundaries a little further and embraced the cropped leg too. WOAH THERE. I know.

This jumpsuit was a little something I picked up on my Kings Road Zara spree, it caught my eye immediately because of the gorgeous colour, dropped back & unique cut (the cropped leg seems to be my new favourite thing). Fortunately it fitted like a dream too, and makes for the perfect relaxed daytime slouchy look, or even a dressed up evening look (a little more like this styling).

The jumpsuit looks fab with my black lace up heels & would be perfect paired with a black leather jacket to finish things off & to take the look into the night.

Are you a jumpsuit coveter? What do you think of this cropped leg trend too?

. CA VA SLOGAN TEE .

I’ve never really been a huge t-shirt wearer, but i’ve always admired those capable of pulling on a worn and retro tee with a chic leather skirt or a pair of boyfriend jeans, and looking so effortlessly amazing. Despite the years of admiration from afar, this summer i’ve finally embraced the style myself … largely due to the amazing selection of slogan tee’s which have caught my eye on the high street, which now form an essential part of my daily style routine.

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”957520″]

My obsession and collection all started with my Whistles ‘Tres Bien merci’ slogan jumper (you may remember it from these posts – here & here), continued onto my grey ‘Toi Moi Nous’ slogan tee which I picked up in the sale, and has been completed with my new shiny AW15 ‘Ca Va’ tee (another Whistles number incidentally). The conclusion being that i’m a lover of le Francais (it’s a fact),

Anyway, my new Ca Va tee was the perfect pairing with my Zara denim skirt & converse for a casual summers day out a couple of weekends ago whilst I was in Tetbury! I love the contrast of laid back garments styled with dressier items like this skirt … it’s the perfect juxtaposition.

Are you a slogan tee fan? What do you think of my budding collection?

  • 7 POSITIVE LIFE CHANGES YOU CAN MAKE TODAY

7 POSITIVE LIFE CHANGES YOU CAN MAKE TODAY

    MEDIAMARMALADE_LIFESTYLE_TIPS-13

. IMPROVE YOUR LIFE, ONE SIMPLE STEP AT A TIME .

Sometimes when we take a look around at our lives, we can be caught thinking ‘how did I get here’, maybe it’s that you’ve snuck on a few pounds, realised you’ve not seen your friends or family in months, or simply forgotten that work life balance you once had. I’m no master, but I think this feeling is quite normal, and what’s important is that you realised it, and are making some small changes to get your life back on track.

For me, this situation usually occurs when I haven’t given ‘me’ enough time and attention, and I realise that time spent on things that matter to me have shrunk away, in replace for usually something like work.

But don’t worry … it’s easy to get back on track, to improve your life, and it doesn’t have to be hard, there are some super simple, super easy tricks and today I wanted to share a couple of them with you.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_LIFESTYLE_TIPS-14 MEDIAMARMALADE_LIFESTYLE_TIPS-9

. POSITIVE LIFE CHANGES YOU CAN MAKE RIGHT NOW.

#1 LET’S GET BACK TO YOU

First things first, you need to spend some time getting back to basics, getting back to you. Often we can find ourselves feeling stressed, lost, unhappy because we’ve lost sight of ourselves, the things that matter to us and the things that make us happy.

So the first super simple thing to do, is to sit and listen to you. Make a list of all the things that make you happy, make a bucket list, write down the things that make you unhappy … just get it all out. Once you’ve done this you should feel much clearer about the things you need to do to keep YOU happy.

For me, things like time to blog, feeling healthy, holidays, time with my loved ones & a good book, make me feel happy, and when I spend a little time doing these things I instantly feel more content.

    #2 GET MORE ACTIVE

We all know being active keeps us healthy, happy, positive & in a much better state of wellbeing than being a couch potato. But often our lives get taken over with chasing never ending work demands, and time for exercise can slip to the wayside. But a simple change you can make right now, is to prioritise a little active time … a day shopping, a cycle to the next village, a walk to the pub for dinner, or even a little yoga or pilates class. It doesn’t have to be dramatic … but just adding a little more movement can make the world of difference without you even realising.

And lets not forget, one of the best ways to clear your mind and stress is by exercising it all out.

#3 BE INSPIRED & HAVE AMBITION

For me, working towards something always makes me feel excited, motivated & focussed, knowing your working towards something you really want, really helps give your life and work a little focus. Whether it be a work goal, a blogging dream, or simply saving up for a holiday or a new bag (Chloe Faye, yes please). Whatever that ambition is, channel that motivation, get inspired & start working towards it. Whatever you do, don’t let yourself ‘coast’ along in life without chasing those dreams.

And most importantly, make sure the ambition is something YOU want to achieve, what is it that you want? Define it, and go get it.

    #4 DRINK MORE WATER

How many times are we told we need to drink more water, and how many times do we nod and agree, yet go on drinking a measly amount and topping up with coffee for the rest? Too much I bet.

This week, get yourself a water bottle & try and tackle that 2.5 ltr target … you may feel a little bloated at the end of day 1, but give it a few days and you’ll feel healthy, hydrated and probably a little less bloated now your body doesn’t have to hoard every bit of water it gets.

    #5  SET SOME RULES

Yes rules are there to be broken, YOLO n’ all that, but actually having some rules, boundaries & guidelines in your life can help you stay on track, help you keep positive and help keep your life at the pace you want it to be.

The rules to your life should be set by you, based on what makes you happy & how you want your life to be, but a couple of ideas might be: I shall never work past 10pm in the week (in a career like mine, setting yourself some work / life balance rules is really important, to ensure you keep that positive balance in check), I will do one Pilates class a week because I know it helps me relax, I want to travel 3 times a year minimum, I shall drink that 2.5 ltr of water i’m told to, a day, everyday, we will have date night, every week, no matter what … and so on.

The rules don’t have to be boring, if anything I like to think of my life rules as the guardian angles that keep my happiness and work life balance in check, but just making some things that are important to you THE absolute priority, will help ensure you always have a good balance in your life.

    #6 BE KIND

Being kind to people not only makes them feel great, but actually it makes you feel great too. Whilst being kind, for self love isn’t the most selfless act of kindness, there’s no harm in killing two birds with one stone right.

Start being a little more kind to others, hold that door open, give up your seat in the morning for someone more in need, treat your friends or colleagues to a coffee, simply send a loving text to someone. Kindness doesn’t take much, but the affect it can have not only on you, but those around you is hard to ignore.

There’s something to be said for Karma!

    #7 PMA, EVERYDAY

I talk about well-being and happiness quite a bit, and i’m no hippy, but I really do believe in the power of positivity. It change a chore into an opportunity and make an ordeal and adventure … positive people attract positive people, are more open to opportunities, and generally get more out of life experiences. I know not everyone is naturally an optimist, but spending a little effort on being a more positive person is one super simple way to improve your life, immediately.

Start your day by thinking of the 5 things you’re grateful for. Having a positive mindset before you’re even out of bed will set you up for a good day.

MEDIAMARMALADE_LIFESTYLE_TIPS-5It doesn’t take much to make a positive change to your life, so if you’re feeling in need of a little happiness boost, then why not try one of these out today, this week or set yourself a challenge for the month ahead. I bet you’ll feel better about ‘life’ before you even realise it.

I’d love to know if you have any other tips to throw into the mix, or if you already practice any of these little tricks to keep your life positive?

  • 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO GIVE YOUR BLOG A REFRESH

5 SIMPLE WAYS TO GIVE YOUR BLOG A REFRESH

    Mediamarmalade Blog

. GIVE YOUR BLOG A FRESH FEEL WITHOUT STARTING FROM SCRATCH .

Every now and then I get an urge to make a change to my blog, sometimes a radical change, sometimes just something to give it a fresh feel or a fresh look. Up until a couple of years ago I felt like I was constantly making tweaks, adjusting the look & design of my blog, and experimenting with content, at the beginning of last year I took the big move of totally revamping my blog, including a scary move from blogger to a self hosted platform … a serious refresh.

But despite the change, I still find myself wanting to keep my blog fresh, make changes, tweak things here or there & simply just keep innovating it … i’m sure i’m not alone?

But these changes don’t need to be as radical as a whole redesign, there are a few simple tricks that i’ve learnt over the years which help give your blog a fresh look, without months of coding hell or big expenses, today I wanted to share a few of those little ideas.

Mediamarmalade Blog Mediamarmalade BlogMediamarmalade BlogMediamarmalade Blog

. 5 SIMPLE WAYS TO GIVE YOUR BLOG A REFRESH .

    #1 MAKE SMALL TWEAKS

First of all, with the user friendly interfaces that blogger and wordpress offer these days, making simple changes to your blogs look and feel can take a couple of seconds and doesn’t require the blood sweat and tears of yesteryear (I remember trying to custom code my blogger blog and nearing tears with the stress of it). So if you’re in the mood for a little change, then why not think about simply tweaking your fonts, changing the colours of your hover or hyper links, or updating your social links or even making your posts ‘read more’.

A slightly heftier change, but still relatively simple would be to change your home page layout, move your widgets or layout around. These changes can make your blog feel totally new, without any major leg work.

    #2 PHOTOGRAPHY

Given how much of your blog is photography, regardless of your layout, even making some simple changes to your photography style can make your blog look and feel different immediately. For me photography is a huge part of my blog, from my home page to my category pages, the focus is the imagery … and so by making some simple tweaks to my imagery style (whether it be focusing on crisp white imagery, or bold, dark and contrast lighting) it can make your blog look totally different.

It’s a really easy way to make your blog look new & exciting without really doing anything at all.

    #3 START A NEW SERIES

I always find starting a new blog series a really exciting way to make my blog feel all new and shiny, when I started my career, photography & blog tips posts, I really felt like it gave my blog a whole new vibe. I was writing about things I was passionate about, and in turn it attracted new readers who may not have been as interested in my usual style features.

Whether its food, fitness, lifestyle, photography or personal style … adding a new content theme to your blog can really make your blog feel like a new site, but again, is just a super simple change to make.

    #4 ADD A NEW PAGE

Much like starting a new content or topic theme on your blog, even adding some new pages can make your blog feel new. I personally like to have my category pages where people can view my tips, beauty & lifestyle features etc, but adding a new page every now and then makes my blog feel like it’s continuing to evolve & keep up to date. My most recent additions were bespoke shopping pages for accessories & home wear, and of course the addition of my subscription and collaboration pages.

Its really easy to add new pages, and it gives your readers something new & exciting to go and explore.

    #5 REDESIGN YOUR LOGO

In reality your logo is just an image or a font on your blog, but actually your logo can be quite the centre piece to your website. Changing your logo can therefore make your blog feel totally new and different, without any other changes really needing to be made.

It’s not something you want to do to often, as your logo is part n’ parcel with your brand, and a brand should be consistent as much as possible. But making a change to your logo is another really easy way of upgrading your blog without having to put much work in.

I’ve been thinking about redesigning my logo again for a few months now, something a little more arty, but still chic and professional which is where I wanted my blog to go. It’s not a difficult thing to do … but spend some time finessing the design before you make any changes, you’ll be amazed at the difference it can make to your website.

Mediamarmalade BlogMediamarmalade Blog   Mediamarmalade BlogSo there you have it, 5 very simple ways to make your blog feel new and exciting, without having to do a  whole redesign or start from scratch.

I’d love to know if you’ll be using any of these tricks or if you have any other tips to add to the list too?

. EMBRACING CROPPED CUT & CULOTTE TROUSERS .

The last time I wore a pair of culottes for ‘fashion’, was probably about 20 years ago (if you can call kiddie culottes fashion), and aside from that the only other time i’ve worn the style will have been as part of my netball kit for County & club netball … but there was nothing ‘fashion’ about that. But as they say in fashion, what comes around goes around, and what was a hot trend of the 80’s – 90’s has made a reappearance in the 20’s too. And i’ve fallen quite in love with this seasons take on the trend … oversized, cropped & quite ‘boyfriend’ in style.

These culottes were a rather improtu purchase I made the other weekend whilst in Westfield, I hadn’t gone to shop, Jase and I were running errands, and as ever when I wasn’t looking for anything in particular I found a million things I wanted to buy. These culottes really caught my eye, and whilst I didn’t think they’d suit me, I tried them on anyway and was pleasantly surprised at the fit and look. I’ve actually been wearing the culottes quite a lot recently, and I think my favourite styling is with a simple tee like this slogan one. It keeps the culottes day time casual, and makes the trend a little easier to sport day to day.

Are you a fan of culottes and cropped trousers? What do you think of this navy pair?

Despite a little bit of sunshine here and there, the summer feels like a distant memory right now, and gone are bare legs & floaty shift dresses, i’m finding myself opting for comfy trousers and oversized knits already. This wool coat is seemingly a pretty handy purchase, whilst I thought it’d be sat in my shopping bag for a few more weeks or months, it seems i’m already starting to get some wear out of it this week. I teamed the waistcoat with my new Whistles trousers and ASOS striped shirt, for a chic but understated work wear look earlier this week. Simple.

Have you made any autumn purchases yet?
