. RAINY DAY PICNIC .

An age old question in the UK is what to do when it’s raining? We spend half our year trapped inside due to rain, hail, snow, wind … basically the UK weather. There’s only so much TV you can watch and so over time I’ve developed a little ‘rainy day’ tactic which instantly cheers me up and makes for a far more fun rainy day … The Indoor Picnic.

Today is one of those days. When Jase and I woke up it looked set to be a glorious sunny day. But oh no, by 10 O’clock the clouds had come over and the rain was setting in. We didn’t want the weather to ruin our weekend, particularly as it’s been busy week and we’ve both been looking forward to a nice weekend together, so we decided to keep our plans of having a picnic, but instead have it inside.

Back home we have quite a big garden, set by a forrest, and right at the bottom of the garden we have a big shed which used to be full of tools and junk. This month my sister (as part of her textiles final) has refurbished our garden shed into a summer house / cosy snug. She insulated and hand painted the shed, hand printed the wallpaper and blinds, knitted tons of woollen cushions each with her own designs and also crafted lots of unique little trinkets to finish the shed off. A lot of the cushions are currently in her final critique at uni, but she’s left a couple in the Wooden Sheds for us :)

So basically, the little shed at the bottom of our garden made the perfect hangout for our indoor picnic. We popped to Waitrose and treated ourselves to a couple of nice cheeses (A Gauda & a Bree) some nice deli pates and a salmon pate. We picked some vine tomatoes, quince jelly, and some tasty grapes, along with a freshly baked french stick and tucked into our feast. It’s made for a super cosy and relaxed day, despite the winter weather.
