. REISS SHEENA LEATHER JACKET .

When I first moved to London I lived in my favourite Topshop leather jacket with a  shearling esque collar (you can probably remember the one), it was my go to outerwear and I wore it with everything. Over the last two years I’ve found my coat and jacket collection has expanded exponentially and as a result my little leather jacket has been left a little unworn (but still looking a little too worn). My love for the leather jacket hasn’t gone but I found myself wanting something a little more chic, quality and basic … That’s when I fell in love with the Reiss Sheena jacket. This along with my orchid jacket (which you’ll have seen many a time now on the blog) were two jackets at the end of last year I was utterly obsessed with, and come Christmas they both ended up mine (Jase treating me to the leather number and me treating myself to the Orchid). The only problem with getting them at Christmas is that the weather has been a little too temperamental to get some serious wear out of them … But now spring is finally settling in, it’s a different story!

I love how a leather jacket really can go with everything, whether it’s a maxi dress in the spring, jeans and a tee or even a summer shift dress in the summer. They’re so easy to wear and the perfect ‘throw on’ outer layer. I teamed my Reiss Sheena leather jacket with my MOM jeans, a little knitted dress which I tucked up into a top (more to come on this special garment later in the week) and of course my (almost overused) accessories – my zara suede heels, reiss trilby hat and Aspinal buckle bag. Et Voila. I’m back in the leather jacket business.
Are you a leather jacket coveter? What do you style yours with?

My denim obsession has taken a rather specific turn towards buttons, naturally we can blame Alexa Chung and her AC x AG collaboration for this turn of events, but regardless of who is to blame, the fact of the matter is i’ve ordered 3 button down denim garments in a 8 day period. Same old, same old. Firstly was my Zara button down skirt which I featured here last week, secondly of course is this ASOS pencil denim button skirt number and thirdly (and the real piece du resistance) is a denim button down dress i’ve just ordered from Zara (it’s a dream … i’ve been checking the site every day for 2 weeks waiting for it to come in stock, and it finally did yesterday)!

The button down denim look is definitely a firm favourite of mine for spring, and i’m already starting to ease it into my outfits now (despite the fact the sun has disappeared again)! This ASOS version is a slightly more work friendly cut, being pencil length n’ all! I teamed it with a simple black tee and my suede lace up heels before I jetted off skiing last week & quite liked how simple the look was. I’m going to give it a little converse & cropped knit twist up next time I wear it … perhaps for my birthday bbq this weekend coming (sunshine permitting).

Are you a fan of the button down denim trend that’s infiltrating the high street right now?

. TRAVEL MAKEUP EXCLUSIVES x ESTEE LAUDER .

One of my favourite things about going on holiday, is of course indulging in a spot of duty free shopping on route to the aeroplane. Duty free shopping is something i’ve come to really indulge in over the last few years, I find it impossible to pass through all the beauty counters without picking up my makeup and skincare favourites, and even better some travel exclusives which are always a gem to find. On my way skiing this week I picked up a little MAC and Laura Mercier & my UAE trip pre Christmas turned into a rather large haul (I wrote a post on my ‘best duty free makeup buys‘ which you can check out). It’s hard to resist the tax free prices, but even more so the special sets available & spending my ‘holiday money’ which we all know comes off the magical money tree.

Estee Lauder, Bobbi Brown and Clinique are some of my favourite beauty brands and this seasons travel exclusives have seriously stolen top position on my beauty favourites list this year. Bobbi Brown has always been one of my absolute favourite beauty brands and I have a few of their eyeshadow palettes within my collection already (one of which is a travel exclusive my dad bought me a couple of years ago), but their smokey eye sets have always caught my eye and been top of my wish list. This smokey eye travel set literally has it all covered, from shadow & liner to mascara and makeup remover, its the total set & creates such a gorgeous smokey look. The instant pretty palette is also a fab exclusive for this season, with the perfect nude & brown eyeshadow colour palette & of course a little bit of pink blush too (it’s also an ideal handbag makeup bag size so comes to work with me daily just in case I need to top up or upgrade my look for post work fun)!

I’ve always used Clinique skincare and the moisture surge is a range both my mum and I adore. So richly moisturising but light and delicate on your skin, the eye cream feels so luxurious on your eyes its like a mini spa treatment. I’ve actually not used the CC cream before, but the travel exclusive includes both the moisturisers and the CC cream and so this week i’ve been using it daily (perfect because it includes SPF 30 & helps hide and pink blemish tones which is a saviour for me). I’ve been really impressed with it, and it actually gives such a great base you can go much lighter on foundation on tinted moisturiser. The trio of chubby eyeshadow sticks is also another real favourite (and great value versus buying them individually too), I love the soft golden hues of the sticks & blended together they create a gorgeous smokey lid for an evening out.

Estee Lauder and it’s infamous advanced night repair serum is a firm favourite amongst almost every single person I know, the travel exclusive includes both the facial and eye serums which is the perfect duo but not only that I absolutely love their complete beauty sets like the one I’ve featured here … from eyeliner and lipliner, to shadows, powder & blush, the set has everything you need and makes for the perfect travel kit. I’m actually off to Stockholm next week with work and so i’ll be taking this with me to cover all my beauty essentials as it’s so compact and lightweight so ideal for when you don’t have checked in luggage.

    . BEAUTY EXCLUSIVES .

Travel exclusive beauty sets are something i’ve actually always been a big fan of, in fact it was probably my dad who got me into them originally, often buying me Chanel, Bobbi Brown, MAC & Clinique makeup sets for Christmas and Birthdays which he’d pick up on his travels. I’ve always loved the limited edition designs & curation of the brands ‘best’ bits all in one fabulous travel size kit. I’ve actually got quite a fab collection which i’ve built up over the years and I find them the perfect ‘bag size’ sets to take to work or on my travels with me, which is super handy given how often I like to adventure abroad.

Have you ever treated yourself to any travel exclusive beauty sets? Which are your favourite brands to pick up duty free?

. 5 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR BLOGGING MORALE & KEEP POSITIVE .

I’ve been blogging for a long time now, and with the highs and great achievements of course comes moments of lows and a feeling of self depreciation. Whilst most the time I am really positive and proud of what I’ve achieved, there can be days where I sit and feel a little low about my blog, usually relating to how much hard work I put in, and sometimes feeling like I am missing out on some of the ‘reward’ which I may see others achieving.

I’ve written a whole ton of blog tips posts over the last 12 months, and within all of them I talk about how important it is not to compare yourself to others (and it’s very true), but regardless of whether it’s the ambition for success, sheer exhaustion from producing daily content or just a slight lack of confidence, sometimes blog morale can take a little hit, and so I wanted to dedicate todays post to sharing 5 ways you can help boost your blog morale, keep positive and of course in turn give yourself a well needed confidence boost.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS-37 MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS-39

    . FOCUS ON YOU .

The most important thing when blogging, and really life generally, is to focus on yourself. I often find that lack of morale or feeling negative is triggered when I start comparing myself and my achievements to others. It’s really important to ensure that you focus on yourself, your blog and your achievements, relative to your goals and ambitions, by keeping focus on you, you’ll find yourself keeping more positive & able to keep your morale high.

    . MAKE MINI GOALS .

As with most ambitious people, we’re always striving to achieve our best and be successful, but with that can be a constant pressure to achieve and unless you set yourself milestones to take check at, can be a never ending and potentially demoralising pursuit. The best thing to do with blogging to keep your morale high is to set yourself mini goals, maybe annually or even monthly to make them a little more achievable. That way you’ll find yourself constantly working towards something specific and celebrating the little milestones that you might otherwise miss.

. LIST OUT YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS .

As with setting goals, it’s a really great thing to also count your achievements. Don’t always strive for more more more, take a moment to think about all that you have achieved. This is also a really good way of boosting your morale if you are feeling a little down or self depreciative. Take a moment to think about all that you’ve done, the great work you’ve achieved and maybe even the great partnerships or milestones you’ve hit! Taking a moment to appreciate yourself is a really easy way to give your morale a little boost.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS-41

    . LOOK HOW FAR YOU’VE COME .

Much like listing your achievements, just taking a moment to see how far you’ve come since you started your blog is always a good way of taking a moment to appreciate whats been achieved. Whether thats looking at your first post, reading through some old content or looking at your blog stats and seeing how they’ve grown since day one. Everyone starts with zero page views, so even if that’s grown to 10 page views, that’s worth celebrating :)

    . TAKE A BREAK .

My last tip is a little more drastic, but sometimes simply taking a break can be really beneficial in getting yourself back on track. Taking some time out away from blogging can help you get fresh perspective & a more positive outlook on things. Whether its one day, one month or just a few hours. Stepping away, focussing on something else for a while and coming back fresh is always really helpful.

MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS-42So there you have it, 5 ways you can just take a moment to reflect and hopefully keep your morale high and a more positive outlook. I find myself having to do a couple of these a few times a month, just to stop myself being self depreciative of all my work or hard on myself for what i’ve achieved.

If you found this post helpful, you may also want to check out my other tips posts on the topic: How to Set Goals, What Is Blog Success, 5 tips to up your motivation, How to Run a Blog & Keep Morale High & tons more blog tips here.

. SUNSHINE YELLOW VS DULL GREY .

I always find dressing in up beat vibrant colours is a sure fire way to improve an other wise dull and drizzly day. Often when the weather isn’t on my side, I find myself turning to dark colours, understated ensembles and generally just putting a little less effort into things. But actually, what I’ve started to realise is that by adding a little colour into my outfit, it adds a little bit of colour into my day! So what better way to combat a wet and overcast weather forecast, than by adding a little sunshine into your skirt.

This yellow skirt is something I got a bit obsessed with when I first saw it, and actually it’s not a colour I would normally pick out of the crowd. But whether it was the suede material, the zip down front, or just the bright, vibrant yellow colour, it stole my heart from the outset.

It’s an item that come summer I’ll no doubt where all the time, teamed with a simple white tee & summer sandals, but for winter (we’re nearly out of it, hooray) i’ve opted for something a little more warm in my oversized Zara knit jumper. I wasn’t sure how tights would work with the yellow skirt (bumble bee anyone) but actually if anything it just makes the skirt stand out even more.

Do you find that colour in your outfits can really boost your mood? What’s your favourite colour to add to a look?

. WHAT I WEAR TO SHOREDITCH HOUSE .

As you may, or may not know from my latest blog posts, I recently became a member at Shoreditch House. It’s a members group i’d been privy to for a number of years, largely from post work nights out, but is one that I became more interested in during the last few months not least because of the fab houses & house culture, but also because it provided a destination and alternative HQ for blogging and ‘blog work’. One of my favourite things about the houses is the variety on offer, from speeches and presentations from infamous industry leaders, to cinema screenings, to DJ nights and of course Soho House Festival, to simpy enjoying all the basics which each house has to offer.

Another of my favourite things about the houses is the rule on ‘attire’ and clothing. For one, rock up in a suit and theirs no way you’re getting in. The houses are all about low key creatives types, and over dressing is most definitely not on the agenda. So more often than not you’ll find me in my slouchy jeans, a pair of my favourite ankle boots, a simple tee & of course an oversized coat. This outfit is exactly that, and it’s what I wore Friday night when we headed East for a little bank holiday dinner on the rooftop at Shoreeditch house. Totally simple, but suited the vibe perfectly.

CAREER TIPS: 5 WAYS TO SPEED UP YOUR MORNING ROUTINE

. 5 WAYS YOU CAN SPEED UP YOUR MORNING ROUTINE .

Whilst trying to maintain my modesty, I am happy (and actually quite proud) to declare that I am one exceedingly speedy person to get ready. So speedy in fact that it often throws my colleagues and friends how quickly I can be out the door in the morning & equally how low maintenance my ‘morning routine’ is. As a busy bee most days, I try to optimise my morning routine as much as possible, favouring an extra 30 minutes in bed, than 30 minutes to do my hair, whilst still rushing to get to work on time (despite getting ready at the speed of light, it’s always the district line which makes me late).

I’m most definitely not a morning person, so today I wanted to share 5 ways you can speed up your morning routine. These 5 little tricks really help me maximise my time in bed and master a speedy morning routine.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_TIPS-21

. #1 WASH YOUR HAIR THE NIGHT BEFORE .

My hair is the one thing that actually takes me time to do, it’s not in the styling or washing though, it’s the damn drying time. Long, thick hair has it’s downside, and that is that it can often take me a good 20 minutes (if not longer) to actually  get my hair dry. So avoiding having to do this every morning is a serious life savour. When I wash my hair (usually every other day) I try to do it as soon as I’ve had dinner in the evening, and i’ll then wrap up in my dressing gown and let me hair dry the au natural way! Giving it a quick blast on the hair dryer before bed to make sure it’s not wet still (most the times it is)!

In the morning all I have to do is throw it up in a bun (my easiest and quickest trick), or simply put the straighteners over it to flatten out the lions mane frizz or add a few (more tamed) curls. Cutting out ‘hair’ in the morning genuinely saves me at least 30 minutes each morning.

    . #2 PRE PLAN YOUR OUTFITS .

As a fashion blogger, this is definitely something I shouldn’t admit, but genuinely trying to find an outfit in the morning can be such a nightmare. From having ‘nothing to wear’ to ‘nothing looks right’, I could waste a good 30 minutes chucking things off, emptying my wardrobe and getting myself into a right mess (trust me, it’s happened many a time before). One way I’ve managed to streamline my morning routine is to simply pick an outfit the night before, when i’m calm & can think straight about what the day ahead will entail. Having an outfit prepared and ready and waiting for me to simply pop on makes the world of difference to my morning routine (believe it or not).

    . #3 MAKE YOUR OWN COFFEE .

If like me you need a good brew to get the cogs in motion every morning, then a quick way to save yourself 10 minutes is to take a coffee on your commute, as opposed to popping to your local coffee shop for one (I save this for those rare mornings where I am ahead of time). I always love a good coffee shop coffee, but actually after buying myself a little travel coffee mug (A Bodum one which actually is a mini cafetiere, so makes an actual ‘proper’ brew – well worth buying) i’ve streamlined my morning routine even more. I simply pop the kettle on, on route to the bathroom, and by the time i’m done brushing my teeth & washing the kettle is boiled and I can top up my coffee mug with my favourite coffee & some freshly boiled water, and voila i am good to go!

The same goes for juicing, i’ve really got into juicing each morning, so the night before I prepare my veg & fruits, ready to simply blast when I wake up & pop in a bottle to take on my commute with me (or drink whilst I am getting ready). Even better would be to prepare enough for the week ahead and keep it in  an airtight container & simply pour yourself a glass each morning.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_TIPS-23

    . #4 PRE PREPARE BREAKFAST .

Now I am a huge breakfast lover (at the weekend it’s my favourite thing to do, brunch), but during the week I actually skip the most important meal of the day as I always feel I don’t have time to dedicate 15 minutes to knocking something up. This is absolutely ridiculous and not the way to do things … so a little trick i’ve found to help my morning routine but also ensure that I get a little something to eat before the day kicks off, is to take either a packed breakfast to work with me (yoghurt and fruit for example), or have a few bits at work waiting for me each day. This is also actually how many of my friends do weekday breakfasts too … it saves you having a big rush before you leave the house, and ensures you still get to eat breaky, which we all know is super important.

    . #5 BE CONSISTENT .

My final tip is to be consistent, I have a very consistent morning routine, from waking up and having alarms set at the same time (where I can), to having a very ‘routine’ makeup & skincare regime during the week (which ensures I don’t waste time having to re-start my makeup etc). Making sure your morning routine becomes habitual will really help you streamline how long it takes you to get ready and get out the house each morning. Whilst variety is the spice in the life, in the morning routine is saving grace.

I’d love to know if you have any other tips for speeding up your morning routine, or what your morning routine is? It’s always interesting to see how everyone else does things :)

Sometimes it makes me laugh how you can fall in love with an item or a look, yet your nearest and dearest just don’t agree. My MOM jeans are such item. I love them (as does my sister who actually has a pair) but both Jase and my dad haven’t been conservative in holding back on their opinion and feedback (makes my ass look huge apparently). But that’s why I love fashion and clothes, to me it doesn’t matter what others think, to me fashion and dressing is for me and my own pleasure and tastes.

So regardless of what men seem to think of MOM jeans, I for one am a big fan. Not least because they can be so easily styled for whatever occasion required (as I mentioned in my post on Friday ‘My Bank Holiday Style‘), and whilst I love them with a pair of heeled sandals and fitted / tucked in tee, I also think they make the perfect weekend attire too … teamed with some well worn converse, a classic breton top (this one is a little Joules number) and a chic jacket for good measure (I couldn’t resist adding my Reiss Orchid jacket to this look, I still love it immensely now & can’t wait for Spring to finally settle so I can get more wear out of it).

A navy colour palette, some serious SS15 denim & and of course my staple navy & suede accessories.

This look features a few new purchase which have been high on my wish list for sometime now, this French Connection trench has been something i’ve been longing for since AW14 when the featured a duster length variation. After 6 months of denial, I could resist no longer and decided it was about time I gave in and bought myself this slightly cropped number ready for Spring.

Denim as you will well know by now, is seriously high on my agenda, and sourcing the perfect (yet affordable) button down denim mini skirt has been another garment i’ve been hunting down. This Zara button down pencil version was the perfect find and an utter bargain too!

Of course Lady Aspinal &  Mr Reiss (the fedora) made the perfect finishing touches. As usual.
