    SCANDI STYLE

ZARA KNIT DRESS AND FRENCH CONNECTION TRENCH

. MY SCANDI STYLE INSPIRATION: SIMPLICITY & INSTINCT .

If there’s one thing I love about scandi style it’s the relative simplicity, whether that’s in home decor, beauty and diet or personal style. Being in Stockholm this week has made me fall even more in love with everything scandi and spurred me on to think more simply about my personal style. Inparticular to go with my instinct more, to sport my favourite items with confidence and ease, and wear those things I love without too much fuss or concern. Cue one of my favourite outfits for a long time … my Zara knit dress & French Connection trench. Simple but effective.

This ‘scandi inspired’ outfit features pretty much all my favourite Spring buys, my Zara knit dress which i’ve also featured here & here, my French Connection Trench coat which I finally gave in and bought a few weeks back and of course my Aspinal buckle bag which has become a firm favourite. Whilst much of the look features British Brands (with a touch of mass international with my Zara dress), I do feel as though the combo would happily fit in here in Stockholm and tick a few ‘scandi style’ boxes.

Not least of course because the look features a new Daniel Wellington number which in my opinion always delivers a Scandi vibe with it’s design & style simplicity (despite being a firmly British inspired brand). I’ve always been a huge Daniel Wellington fan as you may have already guessed, but the new Classy collection has been the latest design to catch my eye & join my collection, this crystal embellished tan leather St Mawes number is a real favourite, and whilst it’s slightly less simple than my classic variations, I love the little touch of bling and the elegance it brings.

What cultures do you tend to take style inspiration from, are you a scandi obsessive, a parisian admirer or even an East London / Village coveter?

    . ENERGY BALL RECIPE .

I’ve really got into my healthy eating lately. I’ve always been a healthy eater per se, never a fan of ready meals or a fast food diet, i’m far too much of a foodie to eat badly, but my diet more recently has stepped up a little and I now love a raw juice each morning and have really been enjoying using Hemsley and Hemsley and Deliciously Ellas recipes (and as a result have a whole cupboard full of serious health food goodies now – expensive but worth it). One of my favourite new discoveries is of course the infamous energy ball … full of goodness, totally healthy and a great snack to carry with you just in case hunger strikes. There are tons of recipes out there but I particularly love this simple cocoa and almond based recipe, it takes 5 minutes maximum to create and is really delicious. Today I thought i’d share the recipe so you too can give it a go.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-2 MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-3 MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-4

    . INGREDIENTS .

1 cup of Medjool dates (or normal dates, but this will be a little less sweet)

3/4 cup of almonds (I used flaked almonds)

1 table spoon of coconut oil (about £6 a big jar and most supermarkets or health stores stock it)

2 table spoons of chia seeds

    2 table spoons of flaxseeds

1 table spoon of cacao (ground powder)

    1 tablespoon of hemp

    MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-6 MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-7 MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-8MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-12MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-11

    . RECIPE .

    #1 Blend

    #2 Roll

    #3 Refrigerate

The best thing about energy balls is that they’re so so easy to make. Other recipes i’ve read have talked about a specific order of putting your ingredients in, but to be honest, I just threw it all in together (into my nutribullet) and blasted the ingredients probably for about 30 – 60 seconds, stopping every few seconds to give it a little shake to ensure everything was getting blended.

Post blending, simply take out a small amount and roll in your hands to create the perfect size energy ball (the recipe is due to make 20 but I made 11 slightly bigger balls instead).

Once these are rolled, pop on a plate or in a container and keep refrigerated until you’re ready to eat. You can eat them straight away, but I recommend leaving them at least an hour so they ‘set’ and cool down.

MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-15 MEDIAMARMALADE_ENERGY_BALLS-17They’re the perfect snack to pop in your handbag for when you’re on the go, or even take into work for a mid afternoon snack when energy is dipping. They give you a great boost, but also keep you going without the usual spike and lull of a normal ‘sweet snack’.

I’d love to know if you give these a go or have any alternative recipes I should try out?

    . SS15 COVETING SUEDE .

Suede, alongside denim has become my most coveted Spring Summer style. I’ve been splurging on a few new pieces for Spring and I have to admit nearly every item i’ve bought is either suede or denim, and nearly all of them incorporate some kind of button down design. Le sigh. I can’t resist it, and despite the fact this Topshop skirt is far too short for any respectable human, I just love it too much not to wear it.

It’s not often I sport an all black outfit and manage to actually commit to it (i’m always sneaking in a bit of colour or print somewhere), but I actually managed to do it with this black suede look. My new Senso heels (which I absolutely LOVE) spurred on the commitment to actually style top to toe black, they’re so statement and chic that they needed a low key, monotone look to really showcase them properly. I’ve been desperate for a pair of Senso heels for a long time now & this Riley croc leather pair from Allsole fitted the bill perfectly.

Are you a monochrome dresser & a suede lover?

. TRANSITIONAL SPRING STYLE: ZARA DENIM & COS SWEATER .

This weekend has given me a real taster for Spring, I feel like the sun has popped out, the rain has stopped and now there’s no more room for winter. As such i’ve adjusted my wardrobe accordingly and am embracing my Spring style, finally. I always get a little carried away with seasonal shopping when my favourite stores release their new season stock, but often this is far too soon for the reality of wearing it. I’ve been buying my Spring wardrobe since around January now (ha), and so i’m dying to get wearing all my new purchases as i’d originally intended (no tights, no coats & no booties).

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”679501″]

My Summer style is always a little more laid back than my Winter looks I think, less heels & chic blouses, more converse or summer sandals and laid back skirts & sweaters. This look probably sums up my transitional style quite well, a mix of my favourite new pieces (the Zara denim mini of course) with some winter staples (my COS textured sweater).

Today i’ve got the day off work (a very long birthday weekend for me) and so Jase and I are heading down to Mudeford beach for a little beach walk with Ruby and a spot of lunch in the little beach cafe, before heading back to London for a birthday dinner with my dad, and an early dinner for me before I head off to Stockholm tomorrow morning.

How would you describe your transitional style? Are you embracing Spring style now?

    . MY BIRTHDAY – HAUL .

As you will know if you follow me on any of my social channels (or checked out last nights blog post), yesterday was my birthday. Hooray. My birthday has come around so quickly this year, I can’t believe we’re already mid April, Christmas only feels like a few weeks ago. But regardless of how quickly time is flying, my birthday was a welcome occasion and prompted me to book a 4 day weekend too! Yesterday was a bit of a whirlwind of present opening, a lovely brunch and of course preparing for my annual barbecue which always ends up taking most the day transforming the garden into a sort of Moroccan snug (sadly I didn’t take any pictures this year). I had the loveliest day with Jase, my family and friends, and got absolutely spoilt rotten.  Today I thought i’d share some of the wonderful gifts my family bought me …

. COFFEE MAKER, TIN MUGS  & PLACEMATS . UO PHOTO FRAME . STARBUCKS MUG . JUICE BOOK & NOTE PAD .

Whilst this year I didn’t really make much of a birthday list, my family surprised me with the most wonderful and perfect presents. The theme of my presents clearly being ‘home decor’, makeup, photography and coffee. They know me too well.

I absolutely love cute and chic home wear and this year I got some absolutely gorgeous pieces like the copper and glass hanging jar which my sister Harriett bought me with a cactus to go inside (I also got a matching copper photo frame from my friend Anna), the beautiful pastel blue tin coffee maker (from my nan) and matching tin mugs & ‘M&J’ place matts (from mum) and my printed photo frame  and Starbucks coffee mug from my sister Lily. I also got the most fab Juicing book from Harriett & a very cute note book for blogging from Jase.

I received some absolutely beautiful gifts from my friends which I opened last night (post shoot sadly), they always buy me such lovely things. I was spoilt with printed Anthropologie measuring cups, Scandinavian home books & cute hand painted little sugar pots, beautiful flowers & an Orchid (plus of course some home made tasty treats too).

My mum and dad also bought me the BareMinerals starter kit which I’ve been wanting for so long now. I can’t wait to start using this after hearing so many amazing things about it, especially for my skin & how great it’s meant to be! The starter kit is brilliant as it includes basically everything you need, foundation, concealer, blush and powder and over £60 of brushes to boot.

And as you may have noticed, I also was super fortunate to get money towards the Olympus Pen EPL7 (pancake Zoom) camera from my Dad, Jase and Jase’s parents (and me too). The camera was a rather impromptu decision, i’m obviously a huge DSLR fan and am obsessed with my 5D IIII but I was really starting to want a more ‘day to day’ size camera which I could easily carry around and snap pictures whilst i’m out and about (my 5D is far too heavy to carry out and about). I’d heard so much about the Olympus Pen & loved the fact it still had SLR functionalities, interchangeable lenses and of course it’s WIFI functionality. I opened it yesterday and am already super excited to get snapping & testing it out.

MEDIAMARMALADE_FRENCH_CONNECTION_TRENCH_COAT-37 MEDIAMARMALADE_FRENCH_CONNECTION_TRENCH_COAT-43A very quick and a very belated post from me today. Today is my birthday so has been spent celebrating in this wonderful sunshine with my friends and family. I’ve been spoilt rotten & I’m so glad the sun came out for the occasion and my annual barbecue. I’m just settling down now in my pyjamas with a big slice of birthday cake (my favourite passion cake, home made for the occasion) and a very full belly from maybe one two many burgers.

I thought i’d share these pics we took of Ruby and I in the sunshine … she’s growing so much (she’s even stealing my lipstick ha!).

Yet another denim skirt being featured on my blog today. They’ve truly become my uniform of choice these last few weeks. This Zara mini denim skirt is the perfect laid back version and is a number which I think would look fab styled in pretty much every way! With the sun gone into hiding (temporarily) I threw on a  long sleeve grey tea and my black pointed pony hair ankle boots to give it a little more of a transitional vibe, before I really ramp up my spring summer styling (cue converse &  a simple white tee)!

Tomorrow is actually my birthday so I am heading back home for a long weekend of celebrations, nothing too crazy, but my annual barbecue (please come out sunshine) and hopefully some leisurely beach strolls with little Ruby, Jase and my family who I cannot wait to see! I’m super excited to open some pressies, and I already know of one incredible gift which my Dad, Jase and his parents have all put money towards buying for me. This little number will soon be added to my collection (I actually upgraded the kit to get the pancake lens though which is super exciting) and is being delivered today … eeeee! I can’t wait to get snapping and sharing pictures with you all on my instagram and Facebook!

Have you got any fab weekend plans lined up, fingers crossed for sunshine?

This post is one of those wishful posts where I’m wearing an outfit that I just wish was shot at Coachella, rather than my local village. This time of year is always the same, post my NY Fashion Week blues (e.g. blues of yet again not attending) comes my Coachella blues … non stop spamming across all my social channels of those lucky fashionista’s donning head to toe suede and dancing in the sunshine with palm trees and crystal blue pools as back drops. Bastards. I’m easing my woes this year by buying myself ‘Coachella esque’ outfits and pretending that i’m part of the crew!

This outfit would be my type of coachella look … as soon as I saw this Zara knit dress I became obsessed & started dreaming up a million outfits (most of which involved a tan and thin legs which sadly haven’t quite transpired). It’s one of those (in my opinion) super cool but massively laid back garments which is just utter perfection for Summer parties, festivals (apart from the colour) & general beach fun!  I styled the dress up with my Reiss leather jacket & fedora, Zara suede lace heels and Aspinal buckle bag! I actually really love the combo and think I may re-wear it this weekend for my birthday!

What would your coachella style be? What do you think of this knit dress?

  • CAREER TIPS: HOW TO NETWORK

    CAREER TIPS: HOW TO NETWORK

    Blog Tips

. LEARNING HOW TO NETWORK .

Networking is a critical part of business & these days, blogging. It’s not something I actively think about or seek to do, but being able to network and meet new people,  build relationships & work well together is something that we all need to master whether it’s a natural talent or something you work on to get better at.

For me networking should be a natural thing that occurs as part of your working, blogging or social life … but I appreciate for everyone it’s not easy & that sometimes it can be difficult. Given the importance of networking I thought i’d share 5 easy ways you can start to network, start to network a little more effectively or generally just inspire you to try something new.

These tips and ideas are of course in no way exclusive, but they’re 5 of the top things I think can be really beneficial.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS-40

    #1. ATTEND EVENTS

First of all, to network you really need to meet people, and in an ideal work this would be natural and relevant as opposed to some ‘blind data’ type meeting. Of course meeting people is the crux of networking and can be quite difficult to achieve if you’re always mixing with your same network, colleagues and friends, but one easy way to broaden your horizon and also increase the chance of meeting new people is to attend more events, whether that be industry conferences, company drinks or even training courses. By attending more events, signing up to relevant forums or newsletters and simply putting yourself forward to attend more conferences is a really easy way to naturally broaden your network, meet new people & build a stronger network.

Whilst this is a career tips post, this of course also still applies to lots of areas in your life. From your social and friend network (attending parties, taking up a hobby, joining a course etc) to blogging too (attending PR events, joining blog chats on social media and simply starting conversations with like minded bloggers).

    #2. KEEP PROFESSIONAL

The most important thing to remember when you’re networking is that you must maintain professional. Sometimes if the vibe or the occasion is relaxed, it’s easy to forget where you are, who you’re talking to and the importance of that first impression. Try to always maintain a professional edge, relax and enjoy yourself but just be conscious of what you’re saying, and to who, and of course how much you’re drinking …

    #3. TRAIN UP

Much like attending events, attending training courses or sessions is another great way of getting the opportunity to meet new people, but also expand your skill set and knowledge, again broadening your opportunity to meet new people perhaps outside your core work discipline. Having a broad network can of course provide a greater opportunity for your development and career in the future.

    #4. GET A BUSINESS CARD

It sounds like a very simple point, but of course having a business card which you can share with people you’ve met and might like to keep in contact with is obviously very helpful. Not every business gives employees a card, but where possible request a set of business cards with your key business information detailed so that people can easily get in contact with you after you’ve met.

This tip of course also applies to bloggers, I for one am seriously behind and need to get myself a set of business cards, but for bloggers its a really great way of sharing your blog & allowing brands, other bloggers or PR’s to get in contact with you after you’ve met them at an event or party.

There’s loads of very easy ways to make a business card, whether thats a do it yourself job or a paid for business card provider. Often they’re quite reasonably priced and can make all the difference.

    #5. MAKE AN EFFORT

My final tip is another tip which I should probably listen to as well, but making an effort is really important when  networking. It’s very easy to attend an event, meet lots of people and then never speak to anyone again. Really this is counterproductive, and it’s always worth remembering it does take two people to build a relationship, so my final tip is to of course make some effort. Make the effort to send an email, make an effort to meet up with people you’ve met and get on well with, make an effort to go and talk to a group of people at an event and make an effort to attend new events and conferences.

Juggling work and blogging I find myself always having to decline blog events and parties due to work commitments and business, but this is something that I really need to change and this year especially i’ve promised myself to make more of an effort to attend PR days, make it to events and generally build better relationships with my PR network etc.

Dedicating a bit of time and effort to ‘making an effort’ can really make a lot of difference when networking.

    Career Tips

My final bit of advice is to just be confident, remember everyone is in the same shoes, everyone is a little shy when meeting new people and of course no one really likes to put themselves out there and feel exposed. But just tap yourself on the back and give yourself a little encouragement … be confident.

So there you have it, 5 very simple tips and pieces of advice that can really help with networking, they’re not super difficult to achieve, but combined should really help you start or better network.

I’d love to know if you’ve found these helpful or if you have any other tips which you think help then make sure you leave a comment below :)
