. A SUNDAY WELL SPENT, BRINGS A WEEK OF CONTENT .

A little photo diary from today, a super relaxing Sunday spent pottering around Winchester, grabbing some lunch in my favourite local cafe, and an evening spent enjoying a super tasty roast up in Tetbury … before tomorrow heading to Babbington house for a night stay and some serious detoxing. I can’t wait, the perfect sunday to start the week the right way.

    . 5 THINGS I’M LOVING THIS OCTOBER .

It’s not often I do a ‘what I love post’ usually because by the end of the month i’ve found SO many things I’ve either a) forgotten it all, b) would just have too much to talk about. But this month I did want to share a couple of things I’m really loving for the month ahead, or have to look forward to this month.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_Blog-8 MEDIAMARMALADE_Blog-2

    . #1 LIP SEALS

Humour me. I’ve always been obsessed with lip seals or lip balms, and in fact as a child I actually used to collect them (i’m genuinely not sure why). But nothing has changed and as an adult you’re guaranteed to find at least 5 lip balms in my handbag. All for different things … some for an intensive moisture (carmex – every flavour), some for an intensive moisture and a tint of colour (Blistex Rose) or some lip balms really to give me a little colour (my face can seriously lose colour when i’m stressed or tired, so I rely on lip colour to bring some life back)… and that’s where this months loves comes in.

In the last week i’ve managed to buy 4 lip balms, topping up my Carmex with a new vanilla addition (amazing), my Blistex rose coloured balm which had run out, but also Benebalm and a new Clinique Chubby stick. They’re the perfect colour pop throughout the day, nothing too heavy but really add a nice blush to my complexion.

    #2 TRAVEL

Perhaps a little cheat, but this technically covers October and the rest of the year. If you’ve read my ‘travel bucket list‘ post then you’ll know that I have a few trips planned this year. From a UK stay cation at Babbington House next week, followed by a week in Turkey for some last minute sunshine, and then two city breaks in Norway and New York in November and December. So this month, i’m all about travel and holidays (finally).

    #3 BARE MINERALS

I discovered Bare Minerals properly in April, and after finishing my starter kit last month, i’ve officially committed to the brand this month by buying the full size versions of all my favourites, the foundation powder, highlighting and concealing minerals, gel tinted moisturiser, a new powder brush, and also a compact foundation for everyday on-the-go use too.

    #4AUTUMNAL LIGHTING

One of my favourite things about Autumn, which feels as though it’s definitely landing, is the autumn weather and lighting. Crisp sunny days, with orange hues & beaming dusk light. It’s photography lighting heaven in my opinion, and thinking back to last years blog posts shot at around 3pm on a weekend, the lighting was just pure perfection (not to mention the added beauty of the colourful autumn leaves scattering the ground and backdrops).

    #5 BLOGGING

And on that point, the other thing i’m really looking forward to this month is my blog, and really giving my blog some extra welly. The last two months have been seriously demanding from a work point of view, working until 11pm most days and weekends spent catching up on the day to day, and as well as tiring me out, it’s meant i’ve had less time to focus on my blog, my social channels & chatting to you guys. So with lots of travel and exciting plans to share with you over the next month, i’m hoping my blog will get a lot more love.

    . OFF DUTY : MIDI LENGTH .

Today I had the day off work, to tun errands and prepare for the big day tomorrow … one of my best friends weddings, and i’m bridesmaid! We’ve been utterly blessed by the reappearance of sunshine (not just for my photo’s … ahem) and I have everything crossed that it stays for tomorrow too.

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”1066590″]

Todays off duty look is, in my opinion, the perfect fall ensemble. An understated grey marl midi dress, long sleeves and turtle neck, teamed with my new dark brown leather sock boots and finished off with some sleeveless camel wool outer layers. Tres bon. Maximum comfort for running around doing life chores, but still chic and on point for the crisp sunny Autumn days that we’re experiencing.

What’s your off duty style for the new season?

HOW TO TURN YOUR BLOG INTO A BUSINESS: PART 5 MEASURING SUCCESS

    Mediamarmalade_BLOG_TIPS-8

. HOW TO TURN YOUR BLOG INTO A BUSINESS: WHAT IS SUCCESS & HOW TO MEASURE IT .

Can you believe it, today is the penultimate instalment of my 6 part series on how to turn your blog into a business. How time flies when you’re having fun! I’ve always loved sharing blogging tips, careers tips and even photography tips with you all, but creating a little series has been even better. I’ve loved having a plan of what i’ll write, being able to dig a little deeper into each topic and hopefully cover quite a broad topic in details! Have you enjoyed it?

If you’ve missed parts 1 – 4 then you can check them out here: Building a Brand | Creating a Business Plan | Learning to Network | Managing your finances … and today’s feature Measuring Success!

    Mediamarmalade_BLOG_TIPS-18

. IS IT WORKING? HOW TO MEASURE YOUR BLOG SUCCESS .

I’ve actually written a couple of posts previously on the very subjective and broad topic of success .. debating what is blog success, how to be a success, and also what makes a blog good or ‘successful’. But today I wanted to focus very specifically on how you measure your blog success, what are the best tools, measurement systems & stats to focus on, and a little touch on what to do when you’re not achieving what you set out to.

Below are 5 different tools or measurements you should be considering when looking at your blog success … what you’re measuring should link directly and feed from your business plan you created in step 2 (check out my tips on creating a business plan here). Your business plan defined what you wanted to achieve, what you needed to do to get there, and therefore what success looks like (money, page views, social following, content qaulity or quantity etc). So today is all about how you go about monitoring and measuring.

    #1 GOOGLE ANALYTICS

Google analytics should always be one of your first points of call when you’re looking at measuring your blogs traffic, reach, engagement etc. The tool effectively and efficiently allows you to look at anything from the number of unique people coming to your blog, the number of times they visit & the number of pages they view, to where your traffic is coming from (regionally, audience wise & even from which device), beyond this it allows you to monitor and evaluate engagement with your site … bounce rates, content traction, repeat visits etc.

You should use google analytics to monitor your growth, your specific goals & also to help you monitor and optimise your content based on what’s gaining you the most traction. It can even help you identify areas to focus your efforts in terms of distributing and sharing your content, where you receive the most content from & where people find you!

    #2 ENGAGEMENT

It’s really easy to focus solely on the volume of page or unique views you get each month … but whilst monitoring your reach is great (and a really good way of monitoring your success), it has to go beyond just views. There’s minimal value in tons of views, if people are staying for 1 second and you have a bounce rate of 99% …. engagement with your blog, your content & your social channels is a real indicator of your true value and influence to brands, and a really important thing to consider when monitoring your success.

You should look at things like site duration, likes, followers, shares, or comments to help you get a good idea of your engagement levels. Google analytics can help with this, but also consider monitoring your social pages & your bloglovin likes etc too!

    #3 CONTENT

Surely a key success metric for any blogger is producing content, in fact producing great content. And so while monitoring blog traffic and content engagement is a great way of monitoring what your readers think of your site, you also need to review how YOU as content producer are performing. Are you hitting your target volume of content, is your content of a quality you’re happy with, have you been active on your social channels …

And how is this content performing! Is it driving traffic & engagement? Is it delivering social traction …

    #4 SOCIAL TRACTION

Social traction is a complicated way of explaining social engagement. Social engagement is important as it’s the place most people go to find content, engage in conversation & to find and discover new things. Your social pages in many ways are now of the same (if not more in some cases) importance as your blog itself … it’s undeniable how huge and influential instagram is to a blog, it’s business and it’s success.

Monitoring your social traction – followers, likes, comments, shares, regrams, retweets etc, is another key way of getting a really holisitic view of your blogs success! Not to mention, it’s another element of your business where you can drive financial income, so this is another thing to consider.

    #5 FINANCE

Finally, and potentially the most obvious way of monitoring your blog success (blog success as a business that is), is the income you’re receiving. Are you earning the money required to sustain your business, do you have a regular clientèle portfolio, have you won any great projects, are you converting through affiliates etc. Ultimately if you’re turning your blog into a business, then financial success and profit does become a hard bottom line success measure to monitor!

    Mediamarmalade_BLOG_TIPS-12 Mediamarmalade_BLOG_TIPS-6

My final point on the topic is to say, don’t worry if at first you don’t succeed … success is subjective and definitely a work in progress, that’s why monitoring and optimising your business plan is so important. Tweak as you go, if one thing didn’t work, try another. And most importantly embrace the journey and have some fun along the way.

Have you found this post successful? I’d love to here the things you measure to monitor your success?

    JUST ANOTHER MIDI SKIRT

    Mediamarmalade Whistles Midi Skirt

    . AND JUST ANOTHER AW15 PURCHASE .

The midi skirt is a funny old garment, technically speaking it’s wildly unflattering and rather resembles your grandma’s wardrobe, but actually these days the connotations of years passed have started to wash away and this season the midi skirt (and the midi cropped trouser) is back in and has become somewhat of a sartorial Zeitgeist.

. WHISTLES MIDI SKIRT . WHISTLES WHITE TEE . TOPSHOP MAGNIFICENT BOOTS . FEDORA .

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”1058724″]

I’ve picked up a few midi length items this season, but one of my favourites has to be this denim Whistles skirt. Firstly if you’re on the hunt for anything midi then Whistles is your destination, I personally have invested in a few midi items from their throughout the last few months (including my navy culottes which I’ve shared multiple times on ze blog), but the most recent is this denim zip front skirt. An item I picked up on a bit of a whim last week (sadly missing out on the current 25% discount in Grazia) & have since worn loads.

I wore it this weekend whilst pottering around richmond teamed with my white tee & new magnificent ankle boots. The ultimate laid back weekend look, and hopefully a far removed vision from the historic connotations of the midi skirt.

Are you a midi length embracer?

    NEW COS COAT

. NEW SEASON . NEW WARDROBE . NEW ME .

Another one of my new season purchases, sorry, correction, another two of my new season purchases. This month I’ve gone wildly out of control, and so for the next few weeks you can expect to see a whole new wardrobe debuted in my outfit posts. Whether it was the stress of work encouraging some serious retail therapy or simply the fact that I am without doubt a shopaholic, I’ve spent a small fortune on new season lovelies. Including my new COS baby pink slightly sports luxe coat, and the infamous Topshop magnificent sock boots which are featured in today’s style post.

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”1054764″]

The great thing about my new purchases, are that they’ve all added a touch of newness to my love for clothes & style. Over the last month or so I’ve found myself in a rut of wearing the same things day in, day out, not liking anything I’m putting on and constantly finding myself with ‘nothing to wear’ every morning. And I have to say it’s utterly draining. But thankfully after a huge spring clean out (did you catch my spring cleaning post) and a rather enormous shopping spree, I feel a fresh new love for my clothes, my style & thankfully have some looks that I now want to put on in the morning, rather than just wishing I could stay in my pyjamas and hide away!

Do you ever find yourself in style ruts like this? How do you turn your attitude and wardrobe around?

  • LOVE IT WEAR IT

    LOVE IT WEAR IT

    Wallis Love It Wear It

. WALLIS LOVE IT WEAR IT AW15 | THE LEATHER JACKET .

The high street is stealing my hear right now with their new AW15 collections, despite the woeful feeling I have a severe lack of summer in the UK, I am admittedly excited for those autumn days, crisp sunny days & of course my wardrobe of winter warmers & cosy outfits. One of my favourite things about Autumn has to be coats, as Winter falls your outerwear becomes ‘everything’ for most of the time, so picking some key seasonal outerwear layers comes with the perfect excuse. The leather jacket is quite naturally a classic outerwear staple, and Wallis’s take on the classic leather this season quite literally ticks all my sartorial boxes … box cut, fringing & collarless. Tick, Tick, Tick.

You may have seen part 1 of my Love It Wear It collaboration with Wallis, styling up some chic workwear from their AW15 collection, but today is all about this leather jacket. In my opinion the BEST thing in the collection, it’s already become a regular over my shoulders since I got it. A leather jacket is such a style staple, they work with nearly all outfits (if not all), but for today’s post i’ve gone a little dressy with a  fab cropped leg jumpsuit (another AW15 trend i’m loving right now). If you like the look, then you should definitely head over to Wallis as EVERYTHING is in the sale (the jacket is £60 reduced to £48 … bargain).

Have you started to fill your AW15 wardrobe yet? What trends are you loving?

    MY 2016 TRAVEL BUCKET LIST

. 2016 TRAVEL: WHAT’S ON MY TRAVEL BUCKET LIST .

Travelling the world is one of my absolute favourite things to do, in fact i’d go as far as to say its one of my greatest pleasures in life, to travel and explore new countries, cultures and beautiful surroundings. I make a point to travel as much as I can every year, usually trying to have 8 or so holidays or city breaks throughout the year. I always have a rolling bucket list of places that I want to visit, which I tick off and top up constantly. Today I thought i’d share with you the 5 places that are currently top of my travel bucket list …

    MEDIAMARMALADE_HEALTH_BOOKS-29

    . 2016 TRAVEL BUCKET LIST .

    #1 CROATIA

I’ve wanted to island hop around Croatia for so many years now, but each summer time escapes me, and before I know it i’ve missed the peak season and put my island dreams on hold for another year. Next year I’m going to make sure Jase and I dedicate 2 weeks in the summer to explore croatia, it’s beautiful islands and mainland cities. My ideal plan would be to fly to Rome & see Rome and Piza, and then get the coastal train down to Florence before flying over to Split. I have it all planned, I just need to get booking.

    #2 PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY

The West coast of America is something i’ve never done, yet always wanted and dreamed of doing. Ever since my OC obsession days (still obsessed, who am I kidding) and then of course my more recent fascination with Coachella, the West Coast has been top of my bucket list.

My plan (which I am hoping to do in April 2016), is to fly to LA do Coachella, and then take a 10 day road trip travelling the Pacific Coast highway up to San Francisco, stopping off at all the best spots on the road trip (Big Sur & Santa Barbara).

    #3 WILLIAMSBURG

New York is my favourite city in the world, i’ve been lots of times before and in fact, am desperate to properly move there for a few years (i’ve already found my dream house in Greenwich VIllage). I’m heading back in December this year, and this time want to explore the places I’ve not yet got a feel for, and mostly that’s Brooklyn and the infamous Williamsburg. On previous trips we’ve always run out of time to pop across the bridge, but in December we’re staying in the Meatpacking District, so have no excuses not to make the trip across the water and explore the more hipster side of New York City.

    #4 ST PETERSBURG

When I first got my ’36 hours in Europe’ travel book, I made a list of all the cities I had never been to and wanted to visit, and St Petersburg in Russia was a new discovery and top on my list. It’s somewhere i’d never thought of before, but when I read up on the city I got swept up in the magical looking streets and architecture and of course inspired to get a real feel for the Russian culture. I’ve still not been, but when I get the time to tackle the Russian visa process, I definitely want to take a trip.

    #5 ZANZIBAR

Zanzibar is a destination that’s only recently been added to my bucket list after getting tons of recommendations from friends and colleagues whilst I was hunting for holidays in October this year. An absolutely beautiful, stunning East African beach town in Tanzania, it quite literally looks like paradise and would be the perfect relaxing getaway.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_HEALTH_BOOKS-28

What’s on your bucket list? Have you visited or done any of my travel plans, i’d love to hear your experience and make sure you give me some tips for things to see and do?

I can’t believe it’s Friday and the weekend is finally approaching, it’s been a hard going few months and finally i’m looking forward to some down time and some rest. Kicking off with a super relaxing weekend, a wedding next weekend and then a well needed 10 day holiday for some late summer sunshine (still trying to decide where, so recommendations welcome). Whilst my UK wardrobe is becoming increasingly autumnal, i’m looking forward to giving my summer purchases one final hoorah before seriously embracing my winter warmers!

These trousers were one my first Autumnal purchases from Zara’s new collection and they’ve actually become a great transitional wardrobe piece which I’ve been getting quite a lot of wear from. I’ve styled them up for evenings out, with heels & a chic blouse, and equally down with a grey tee & sandals like in this look here. I’m really excited to style them up for winter, a big cosy cream knit jumper & some heeled ankle boots could look really cool. Not to mention layering up with my new Reiss coat!
