    . WEEKEND ROUTINES .

Happy weekend everybody, I thought today I’d mix things up a little and share a little post of my day. I’m back home this weekend after a week on the south coast and am spending some time with my family and little Ruby. The sun’s been out and so Harriett and I decided to escape the rays for a little lunch and ice coffee in a little cafe in Winchester. Ruby came along for the ride and enjoyed meeting all her adoring fans.Mediamarmalade WeekendMediamarmalade WeekendMediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade WeekendMediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade WeekendMediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend Mediamarmalade Weekend

I love popping out for a casual little lunch in Winchester when i’m back home, I have my favourite little spots I always go to (Ginger Two, Cafe Monde & today’s choice Walker Austin & Alexander). Harriett and I popped in for a light lunch and a well needed caffeine boost and decided to snap a few pics there too. I was sporting my favourite denim playsuit (a Zara number from this season), my new Catarzi fedora which is the perfect charcoal colour, and my favourite birkenstocks too. Super casual weekend wear.

. HOW TO DRESS FOR WORK IN A HEATWAVE .

Dressing for work when the weather is hitting record breaking highs is one of the many challenges us Brits face every now and then. With London being a heat trap as it is, and the tube and public transport doubling up as a sauna, dressing suitably when the weather hits a high is a necessity … but sadly rocking up to work in a bikini is not an option, and so light, cooling and still chic and professional work wear is required.Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work WearMediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work WearMediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear Mediamarmalade Work Wear

    [show_shopthepost_widget id=”841481″]

The key thing when dressing for sunshine and hot weather is to be comfortable, if you’re not comfy then the heat will just make you super irritable, unhappy and wishing you’d worn something different. I always like to opt for something relatively lightweight, something that’s loose fitting and most importantly something that lets my skin get a bit of airtime and sunlight too. Aside from the shift dress which is always one of my most go to styles of clothing when it’s hot out, I also love a simple shorts and cami duo too.

These Topshop shorts are super old now, but every summer they serve me well, comfy, chic and a good ‘professional’ style and cut. The shorts work perfectly with a white blouse or even a little cami if it’s really hot. Just pop on a  little denim jacket or a summer kimono or coat and you’re ready to rumble. The finishing touch is simply a classic bag and some chic sandals. This week i’ve been wearing my Missguided suede sandals which are the perfect pairing with my camel tone shorts.

What’s your heatwave work style like? How have you been coping with the hot weather when it comes to style?

. BOHEMIA: BOHO SUMMER DRESS .

Over the last few weeks i’ve been topping up my wardrobe with some new summer dresses, my holiday was too much of a good excuse not to be an opportunist about it. This little Zara number was something I picked up a few weeks ago (pre sale, sob) and a dress i’ve lived in since, both on holiday in Turkey and back in the UK this week seeing as the weather has been absolutely amazing (a great time to be on the south coast).

I’ve been absolutely loving this heatwave, theres nothing like some sunshine to boost my mood and morale, and the heatwave has been doing just that. I find my style far more comfortable when the sun’s out, I naturally opt for oversized, comfortable and billowy styles, and this shift dress delivers on all of those things. One of my favourite ways to style a dress like this is with a little boho accessorising, a little fedora and my favourite lace up heels. The burgundy colour theme was an added bonus?

What’s your summer style? Are you a boho summer dress fan like moi?

5 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR CREATIVITY

. CREATIVITY: HOW TO BOOST IT .

This week i’m on a week long creative leadership course in the South West of England, it’s an incredible opportunity to work with an infamous creative coaching company who work with some of the worlds top global brands. I’ve learnt so much already after two days and we still have three more to go.

Whilst us bloggers are clearly creative beasts, what with the multitude of creative skills we use to blog, from photography and editorial, to creative direction and web design, I still think theres always more we can do to boost our creativity. It’s so hard to be continuously creative and i’m sure we all get stuck in creative or ideas droughts every now and then, so spending a little energy on getting more creative is always a good way of keeping yourself interested and passionate, but also in ensuring your content is fresh and engaging too.

So today I thought i’d share 5 little tips which I hope will help you all get a little more creative.

    MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS_POSTS-37

. 5 WAYS TO BOOST YOUR CREATIVITY .

    #1 TIME & COMMITMENT

First of all, to allow yourself to get creative, you need to dedicate a little time and effort to the process. You can’t just expect great ideas to flow into your mind whilst you’re running at 100 mph and juggling one too many thoughts, so dedicating a little time to thinking, relaxing and idea generation is key, whether its a whirlwind 5 minutes, a 30 minute break out, or a 5 day session.

    #2 STATE & STATE MANAGEMENT

Secondly, and related to time, you can’t generate good ideas when your stressed, tired, grumpy or just mentally occupied, so ensuring that when you’re committing time to getting creative, you’re in the right ‘state’ of being (emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually) will really help ensure you make the most of your time.

If you’re not in the right mindset, or ‘state’, make sure you get yourself into an open, positive and relaxed state before carrying out an ideation session, brainstorm or creative process. You can do this a number of ways, listening to music, meditating, chatting to friends, changing your dynamics or location etc. Work out what makes you the most relaxed and positive, and do these things before you get stuck into any creative thinking.

The best ideas are generated when you’re operating in your subconscious, not your conscious, and to access that you must be relaxed.

    #3 PEOPLE & CONNECTIONS

It’s hard to be super creative on your own, it’s much easier and often better to get creative with others. Whether thats one person, or four people, just adding a little more brain to the creative process might help you come up with some bigger, better and more original ideas. Plus of course you get the opportunity to bounce off each other, elaborate and build on ideas and keep the mood upbeat and positive as you come up with exciting ideas. Whatever you do, when inviting people to help you come up with some ideas, make sure you’re clear and facilitate the ideas session, to ensure you get the most out of it.

    #4 POSITIVITY & OPEN MINDEDNESS

And keeping the mood and environment positive is key. Not only will you be more relaxed and therefore able to think a little more creatively (or more technically, more able to access your subconscious brain, not just your functional and rational brain), but you’ll also find the process far more enjoyable and productive. Going back to state, it’s important that you (and any others your brainstorming with) are in a positive state before embarking on idea creation.

    #5  ENVIRONMENT & STIMULUS

The final thing to consider when getting creative, and one simple way to boost your creativity, is to tune into your environment, be sure to find a place that gives you stimulus, a positive vibe, a relaxed and comfortable setting and generally just an environment that feels or encourages creativity.

When you think about when you get your best ideas. I bet it’s never sat at your desk? For me it’s at the beach or driving in my car. So find out what works for you … and use it. The environment and your surroundings can hinder your creativity, state and positivity as much as they can help them. So take some time to work out where you’ll get your best ideas and dedicate a little time to being there.

MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS_POSTS-26 MEDIAMARMALADE_BLOG_TIPS_POSTS-18So there you have it, 5 very simple ways that can immediately affect and boost your ability to get creative and come up with ideas. And given us bloggers are continuously needing to think up fresh features, new creative concepts and blog ideas, dedicating a little time to maximising your creativity and your understanding of what drives creativity is a really worthwhile task.

I’d love to know how you get creative and whether you have any tips for boosting creativity?

This was my first look post holiday and the weather on Saturday made it the perfect occasion to sport this look in the UK. Super comfy, totally laid back but still on point for this season.

I’m so pleased that British summer time is about to arrive, not least because this week i’m spending the week on the South Coast in Lyme Regis, for a 5 day creative leadership training course. So far the course seems absolutely incredible (i’m unbelievably lucky to have got nominated to attend, especially given these guys train the leaders of the top global mega brands), and it’s made even better by the fact it’s on the south coast, with beautiful seaside views and hosted in the most incredible Georgian mansion.

I’m already plotting how I can have a career and live at the seaside, with my very own pups and acres of land to play in. The absolute dream.

What’s your go to summer style right now? Are you looking forward to the forecasted sunshine?

    . STYLING: THE KIMONO .

I seem to have bought the sunshine back from holiday with me which is serious relief, i’m not sure how well my body would cope with being deprived with sunlight after a week of glorious weather. It’s about time the UK summer actually arrived and this week is set to be a scorcher, just as well seeing as i’m heading down to the south coast this week for a week long creative leadership course, which no doubt will include lots of being ‘out and about’ and enjoying the beautiful coast line and country side.

The best thing of course about this sunshine, aside from no longer looking transparent, is that I finally get to wear all my new summer purchases, including my new Kimono from Zara which I briefly mentioned last week here. This jacket is the perfect summer coat, light weight, simple, and white. I’d been holding out to buy it for ages, but decided i’d pick it up for my holiday last week, and boy i’m glad I did (well, less glad it went into the sale two days after I bought it full price – just my luck). It looks fab styled with a little summer dress (I sported this look the weekend before I went away on holidays), but I equally can’t wait to try it with some simple skinny jeans, my birks and a simple white blouse now i have a little tan too.

Are you a fan of the summer coat or the Kimono? What do you think of this little number and my look?

    BOBBI BROWN SMOKEY EYES

. THE PERFECT SMOKEY EYE X BOBBI BROWN .

If you’ve ready any of my beauty posts then you’ll know full well how i’m quite the creature of habit with my beauty and skincare routine. Whilst i’m open to trying new things, generally speaking I know the brands I love, I repeat buy all my favourite products and stick to the same daily beauty regime all year round. Boring maybe. But I just know what I like.

Whilst a repetitive makeup regime may sounds a little lack lustre, my point of view is that when you find a product and a look you like, then work it until it no longer works. My daily beauty regime is simple …. natural base, smokey eye and when the occasion calls for it, a rep lip to finish things off.

Bobbi Brown Eye MakeupBobbi Brown Eye Makeup

I have some favourite products which I use daily, my Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (on top of my Dermalogica primer and a little MAC concealer if needed), my Benefit Hoola & foundation powder, my Bobbi Brown shimmer brick for a little contour glow, my Naked palette and Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palettes and mascara for a little smokey effect, and my MAC blushes and lipsticks which I tend to add on the more ‘dressy’ evenings.

I tend to stick to my routine religiously, as I know and love my products and my routine is fail safe. The only real alternatives right now being my love affair with Bare Minerals, which i’m currently using instead of my usual ‘base’ routine … the mineral powder works like a dream on my skin and gives such a natural glow (review to come soon on this).

Regardless of my base routine, I always tend to stick to the same eye makeup … a smokey eye, styled ‘up or down’ dependent on the occasion. For the more everyday look I always opt for some soft neutral eyeshadow tones with a little dark brown liner around the upper and lower eye lid to give my eyes a little pop (I love my Bobbi Brown Smokey Eyes set & shadow palette for this), topped off with some serious mascara lashings. For a slightly more dressy look i’ll always look to go a little darker with the smokey eye and pop a bit of liner on to really upgrade the look.

I’ve always been a huge fan of Bobbi Brown and as well as living by their shimmer bricks and tinted moisturiser in the summer, i’ve always always been a big coveter and user of their eyeshadow palettes too. I have about 6 different palettes now which I rotate between (many of which are actually presents from my Dad who got me into the brand originally) and have recently added some of Bobbi Brown’s travel exclusives to my collection – they have some of my favourite colours included in their palettes, and are perfectly compact and the ideal travel partner (which is really handy for me, given I travel so much). This travel exclusive blush & shadow set is perfect for city breaks where cabin baggage is all I have, and the ‘Smokey eye’ set with mascara, liner and shadow stick is all you need to get the perfect smokey eye ‘on the go’.

Are you a fan of Bobbi Brown? Have you tried any of their palettes or eye make up sets?

. TURKEY PHOTO DIARY : OLU DENIZ & FETHIYE

This morning I flew back from a week long getaway in Turkey with some of my most favourite ladies. Myself and my uni girls jetted off for a week of sunshine, seaside and laughter, and we got just that. We headed out to Olu Deniz where one of the girls has a family apartment, and spent our days lounging on the beach, drinking G&T’s, scoffing down the local fish dishes and making each other laugh so much we brought tears to our eyes. It was 10 years ago since we all met at uni, and we still have the most hilarious of times when we’re together, and this week was just what we all ordered. Chilled, full to the brim with sunshine and far too many PJ’s (private jokes). I’m still recovering from a night of travelling, so today I thought i’d share a few little snaps from our trip …

We had so much fun, as we always do, and the unedited holiday album will make me laugh forever and a day (not quite on brand for the blog). My photo diary is a little collection of snaps from our 7 days away, all taken on my Olympus Pen which was quite exciting, and it’s the first time i’ve not used my Canon 5D Mark III for photos on my blog. Can you tell? I actually am really impressed with the quality, let alone ease of use and how cute and light the camera itself is.

We spent most our days lounging around on the beach in Oludeniz, drinking cocktails by the sea and watching the sun go down from our sun loungers, but my favourite day by far was the day we hired a private boat for a cruise around the beautiful turquoise coast, stopping off to dive from out boat, swim in the crystal clear waters and enjoy a delicious boat BBQ with freshly caught trout for our mains. Delicious.

I’ve been to turkey many a time before, but never to Oludeniz and Fethiye, the infamous paragliding (which Sian and Lauren braved), the beautiful hidden and private coast and beaches (which are most definitely worth seeking out) & of course the cheap as chips local Turkish cuisine are all real winners. And it’s just a little hop skip and jump from Kalkan which is one of my favourite Turkish holiday spots.

Now time to adjust back into the English weather, and the slightly less lazy days …. wish me luck!

Have you been to Turkey or in particular Fethiye and Oludeniz before? I’d love to hear your favourite places there & if you want to see more pics then check out my Instagram & Facebook pages too!
