WHY IT’S TIME TO EMBRACE THE ‘CAN DO’ ATTITUDE AND 5 WAYS YOU CAN DO SOMETHING ‘CAN DO’ TODAY
I’m a pretty ‘can do’ person, generally in life I feel confident enough to take on any challenge (even though I will have moments of doubt) and I really believe in a good doss of empowerment (especially female empowerment. Feminist I am). Having said that, this is a totally new thing for me, if I think back 10 years my self confidence and belief in myself was pretty much non existence. It’s easy to say, but its genuinely true. I suffered major anxiety and was really sadly self depreciating. Exam periods were horrendous and I spent most of my late teens in tears, truly believing I simply couldn’t do it, I wasn’t good enough … and ‘I can’t’ was my go to response.
Fast forward 10 years and I’m a preacher of self empowerment, wellness and achieving career and life success … I love to share my advice and tips (based on my own experiences) with you guys and I really feel passionate about living well & achieving the things you want in life. I work really hard, probably driven by a constant need to prove my ability to myself (clearly this stems from my deep dark emotional ‘I can’t’ days), but the point is over the last 10 years I’ve proved to myself and those around me that ‘I can’ do the things I want and need to, I can tackle the shit the life throws, and even in moments of extreme stress and self doubt, I can get out the other side. A quote I find entirely touching and relate-able (I almost hear my mum saying it to me) is this:
“What if I fall? But oh darling what if you fly?” E.H
For me, having self belief, a positive attitude, confidence in yourself and your ability, and a healthy drive to achieve the things that you want to in life is so so so important. I find it really sad to think about how debilitating my lack of confidence was when I was a teenager, and so I now focus so much on achieving the things I want, creating the lifestyle I want & living a positive and well life. And it’s not just me I want to support and help, it’s you guys too, all of us on our own journey. I think my brand mission statement sums it up pretty well:
Mediamarmalade is a destination for the stylish, the ambitious and the passionate. It’s a hub of daily inspiration, motivational content and advice and tips for those of us on a journey to sartorial, life and career success.
Ultimately I believe everyone needs to believe in themselves, and a huge step on that journey is changing your vocabulary from ‘i can’t’, to ‘I can’ … and today I wanted to share 5 ways that you can start to embrace the ‘I CAN’ attitude today.
5 ‘CAN DO’ ACTIONS YOU CAN DO TODAY
BAN THE WORD ‘CAN’T’
First things first, if you want to live a little more ‘can do’ then you must start with banning the word ‘can’t’, both from your vernacular and also your mind. You must stop the negative thought process, and replace it with a more positive and optimistic outlook. There’s nothing you can’t achieve (within reason of course) if you simply go into it with a positive and optimistic outlook! It’s so easy to start yourself on the wrong foot by fuelling and allowing those negative sentiments to take over your mind … it’s by no means easy to ban them, but even trying will make a big impact.
When you find yourself in moments of self doubt, acknowledge the issues you see and feel about the situation (maybe write them down) and then one by one go through them with a rationale mind and consider what the actual risk or worst case situation really is. More often than not you’ll find it’s your mind just irrationally panicking and making you believe that you can’t manage it, and that failure would be the end of the world. In reality, that’s never the case. By actually going through your thought process bit by bit, you’ll soon calm yourself and actually realise things are fine and that you probably CAN do it after all.

DO SOMETHING NEW
Now you’ve embraced this brilliant can do attitude to life, kick start things by trying something new. Maybe something outside your usual comfort zone, or something you are a little afraid of. By proving to yourself, one task at a time, that you CAN do whatever you’re facing, you’ll only grow in confidence and become even more ‘can do’. I can promise from personal experience that this works … even things that last year sent me into a meltdown, now I’m very calm and pragmatic about. Because I’ve proved to myself I CAN do it.

RAISE YOUR HAND FOR THAT PROJECT
Often our fear of failure can stop us from putting ourselves forward for things, or taking on new opportunities. But that’s no way to live. Use your ‘CAN DO’ attitude to put your hand up for something a little challenging or something new. Whether that’s in work or even in life, raise your hand and take on that challenge. Taking on new experiences helps you learn so much and evolve your ability. lt’s win win really.

TACKLE THAT THING YOU’RE AFRAID OF
We always put off the things we’re afraid of, we try and dodge them or find a way out of doing them. Whether it’s big pressured meetings at work, a job interview, a sports match or a challenge in life (moving country etc). We put them off because again we’re afraid of failure, we feel we can’t do it and so we don’t want to face it. But to move forward, you need to take that challenge on head first & prove to yourself you CAN do it. Once you’ve faced a few of these fear factor challenges, you’ll come out the other side brimming in confidence, positivity and enthusiasm. Last year I took on two global business pitches at work, it was the most high pressured business situation I have ever been in, I was shitting myself. But you know what, with a bit of emotional support & a rationale mind I tackled both of these situations head on … to incredible personal accolade and reward. Despite the initial stress (and a lot of it), i proved I could do it, not only to myself but to a global audience too … face the fear!

START MAKING THAT DREAM A REALITY
I write a lot about making your dreams become a reality, because I really believe you can do what you want, you just need the skills and experience to make it happen. More often than not we all have a dream, but through our fear of failure and our love for self doubt & pecimism we leave that in the pipe dream box and crawl on with the dull day to day routine we love to hate so much. STOP IT. Stop that right now … get your can do attitude on, and start to make your actual dreams a reality. One step at a time … but if you don’t start, it’ll never happen.

I am twenty and I have applied for only two job interviews in my life and I have failed in both of them. I just feel defeated ever since and that I am not good enough. But every time I feel like this, I tell myself that I’ll apply for another job and go for another interview and I will be better. I know I have to go out of my comfort zone to LIVE and I try to do this is everything and the biggest getting out of my comfort zone is when I started my own blog and let go of what ifs and the fear of failure. Thanks for giving me my daily motivation.
